"The threat of Cold War nuclear extermination is as real as ever. " OH PLEASE! We all heard the statements that Russia is our friend and our missiles aren't pointed at each other. We were told that our children could sleep without fear. President Clinton said....oh wait, I need to rethink this one...

Since the first day he took office in Moscow, Putin has been committed to resurrecting the old Soviet Union. This is just another step to re-ignite the Cold War. As soon as the rebar goes up to rebuild the Berlin Wall, it should be fascinating to hear his explanation - probably just wants to keep Soviet . . . errrr, Russian bad guys from escaping to the west.
Yeah, that ought to do it. Americans are gullible - after all, they selected John Kerry as the Democrat presidential nominee.
Putin and company must be laughing their heads off at that one.

22 March 2004:
Target YUKOS The European Court of Human Rights in Strasburg agreed to consider the Yukos case, told Robert Amsterdam, lawyer of Yukos former CEO Mikhail Khodorkovsky, in an interview to Financial Times.
According to Amsterdam, the Strasburg Court will consider the matters connected with Khodorkovskys arrest as well as Platon Lebedevs and Aleksei Pichugins arrests . The court is to consider the procedural violations which the lawyers insist took place during the consideration of the cases.
Amsterdam noted he insisted that the court should consider Platon Lebedevs case in an extraordinary manner. According to Amsterdam, Platon Lebedev may go blind due to the poor conditions in which he is being held. The lawyers insist that such an outcome is possible due to Lebedev suffering from high blood pressure.
According to Amsterdam, the appropriate petitions were filed with the European Court during several recent months but it was not until now that they were accepted for consideration

The "new" Soviet Union will be but a shadow of its former self, since the Eastern European countries that helped to make up the old Soviet Union are now free and independent nations, and many of the former Soviet "republics" in the South are primarily Islamic in nature and are vehemently anti-Russian. The "new" Soviet Union will be comprised of Russia, and Russia only; but it will have some allies in Cuba and some of the Latin American Marxist states and narco-republics. There may even be a new "friendship" between Russia and China, as just last year the two countries increased their trade and signed what amounts to a mutual defense treaty.

Keep in mind : Russia has clearly stated - not just using the red line but also IN THE MEDIA - that the only solution is for NATO to step back from the new positions at its borders (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Georgia, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kirghizia).

Yes anything done to protect country or build economy and not sell out to West is to restart Cold War....if anyone, it is US/NATO with things like Yugoslavia terror bombing and expension onto border of Russia that does best to Restart "All Holy and Purpose Giving to Life" Cold War. Who for 10 years aggressing past own borders on constant basis, and I not even refer to blowing terrorists in Afghanistan (which Bush in Spring 2001 stop Putin from doing)?

US would be lucky have conservative like Putin...flat tax, smaller government, Christian culture taught to schools, abortion after 12 week banned, no sales tax, half VAT tax, soon 20% of land for sale (now 8%), balanced budgets (4 years opperate only in Black and pay off half national debt), reform of justice system....Russia have many problems, true, and many works to finish, but it is on road up...which way is US headed?
To: Truth666
Who surround whom? Who have president candidate and former head of NATO who threaten war with Russia 3 times?
To: JohnHuang2
JMO, but this is not the start of a new cold war. This was a political move by Putin to assure his re-election. He's using nationalism to raise the spirit of an otherwise fairly demoralized public, a public that is still waiting to see the fruits of open market economies. The fact is they haven't quite mastered capitalism yet, and probably wont as long as corruption abounds.
In addition, Russia has long placed its primary defense responsibility in its strategic rocket forces, to the detriment of any conventional force funding. They look at nuclear capability as a means to keep border states in check, avoiding the high cost of conventional forces required to protect those large land borders. The strategy is flawed, but thats the road they took. Changing that mindset will take a long time.
We should watch them, but this is far from the beginning of a new cold war. Its more like the same competitive power games that go on between the US and EU, just with a former superpower. Every player wants to make sure that no single player can control the game. Right now we control the game, so all are looking for ways to check our ability to project power.

An American president well could have been run out of office for personally commanding and celebrating such political theater.Always the comparisons and demands that Russia be just like us. Russia is a lovely country with many freedoms we don't have here and with many differences, because, ahem, it is a different country. Must they really be invaded with McDonalds and Walmarts, and do everything just as we do?
How about some turn-about play? In Russia most ten year olds speak perfect English, as they begin studying it in second grade. Get back to me when America has a clue about how to run a public school system like Russia.

So why the need for Nukes pointed at the US? You should know by now that the US doesnt want world domination like the Soviets... They just want business partners.
I firmly believe you are blinded by Putin and the US will most likely have a conflict by China/Russia/EU alliance.... But at least YOU have lower taxes now... *rolling eyes*

It is ironic, isn't it?
In many ways, it almost seems that Russia and the US have had sort of a role reversal;
Now I don't really know that much about what's going on over there - but it apppears that the US is now more of a "Socialistic" society than the USSR was in many ways (although they have yet to put up the walls around our borders to keep us from escaping), while Putin's Government seems to making a lot more sense, in some of the ways just mentioned, than our supposedly "Democratic" system.
It's been alledged (again I don't really know) that corruption and organized crime runs rampant in Russia - but we don't have much to brag about in that category back here, do we?
How much money are the Drug Barrons currently sucking out of the American economy every year?
Anyone have a clue?
Our matrix of "corruption" might be different - but we've sure got it, ain't we?
As for this Yankee, I'm a lot more concerned about the degrading evils within our own borders and social institutions than I am with Putin's nukes, frankly.
As an aside; it makes sense from a Biblical / Prophetic perspective that "Magog" (reputedly Russia) resumes some modicum of tactical power as the tempestuous pot comes to boil in the Middle East.
IIRC, "Magog, Tubal, and Rosh" is to be compelled by "hooks in their jaws" (oil?)to form a secret, surprise alliance with a number of Kingdoms (the modern names of which we would be familiar with) and blitzkreig Israel from the "Northern quarters".
It's gonna be nasty!
For the details, read all about it in... ahhh... (I'm a little rusty here) Hezikiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, and Revelation.
Did I leave anything out, there?
Oh; those cracks that opened up a few weeks ago on the Temple Mount and the dome of the El Aqsa Mosque...
Coincidence...
Or clue?
