Minister dies watching Jesus movie From correspondents in Rio De Janeiro March 23, 2004

A BRAZILIAN pastor died of a sudden heart attack while watching Mel Gibson's controversial film "The Passion of The Christ," church officials said Monday.

Pastor Jose Geraldo Soares, 43, was watching the film, which has been criticized for its violent depiction of Jesus Christ's final hours, when he suffered a "violent heart attack" in a movie theater in Belo Horizonte, capital of the southeastern state of Minas Gerais, said Pastor Amauri Costa de Oliveira.

Soares did not respond when his wife turned to speak to him during the film. The couple was with their two children.

Soares was a member of the Eighth Presbyterian Church of Belo Horizonte, which reserved the entire movie theater so its 270 followers could watch the dramatization of Jesus' last 12 hours before his crucifixion.

The pastor's friends said his death was a coincidence and had nothing to do with the violent scenes showing Jesus being savagely beaten by Roman legionnaires.

The film was launched in Brazil on Friday.

It is the second death related to the film reported worldwide.

Peggy Law Scott, 57, fainted during the crucifixion scenes in a movie theater in Wichita, Kansas last month. She was taken to a hospital and later died from a heart attack.

Gibson's film has dominated the US box office, making 295.2 million dollars in the United States and Canada.

With millions watching this picture, I wonder what the statistics would be for deaths and if they counted the dead for Titanic, Dawn of the Dead???

Is your sister still alive?
If she is, keep an eye on her for about 5 years, let me know and then *maybe* I'll watch it....:))

Actually, I flipped on a pay channel one night and saw a few minutes of it accidentally.
As soon the girl popped the tape into the VCR and the movie started, I squealed and flipped the channel.

[yes...I "screamed like a girl"...so what?]...LOL!

Nobel Laureate Otto Stern and Negro League baseball player Josh Gibson both died at movie theaters. So did Dillinger, come to think of it.

if they die while watching it, you can just register them as Democats and haul their corpses to the theater for Dawn of the Dead, where they will come back alive as brain-dead Democrats.

...on second thought...
,GOSH! Something just struck me! That kind of behavior is eerily like the Muslims claiming martyrdom by suicide while murdering innocent people. It all fits the same pattern. I wonder if this guy is really a Muslim just trying to make Christians look bad. I know that's a stretch, but the pattern fits, and, if so, it seems to be working--at least on his side anyway.

Like I said, you need a check up on your funny bone...I think yours is malfunctioning. If you don't understand the allusion to the practice of democrats to register the names of dead people as voters or that democrat voters are brain dead, I'm not surprised you don't get the humor.

Have a good night.

...just wondering...

how "violent" of a heart attack could it have been if he didnt even stir enough to alert his wife sitting right next to him?

He was flat-linned when he "did not respond when his wife turned to speak to him".

...just more bullsh!t reporting......

Salve Regina,I spoke to a few teens who are afraid to see the movie because a person died while watching it.

My son works at the largest multiplex in our city, and in the 5 years he's been there, there haven't been any fatalities.

Tell him to stick around and he'll get to see the big show eventually.

It a matter of odds. You won't see too many go with a Sponge Bob movie, but put an old Fred Astare/Ginger Rodgers flick up there, and you will be hauling them out in carts.

The Passion draws an older audience than you normally see in these God forsaken multi-plexes.

Man, I miss tho old classy theaters where you felt like it was an occasion to be there even without suround-sound busting your eardrums.

Everybody who lives in Maryland got the "dead voter" joke...unfortunately.
[That's how we got most of our Democrat governors].....:))

You should have seen the old Maryland Theater.
It has gilded everything and balconies and velvet seats and brocade draperies on either side of the screen.
Now it's a hoity-toity symphony type place but I grew up going to see spaghetti westerns there.......:))

Oops!
Here's a website about it:
