Statement by the founder of Free Republic
Free Republic ^ | Jim Robinson

Posted on 03/22/2004 6:22:17 PM PST by Jim Robinson

I posted the following statement to our front page in response to the criticism I'm receiving lately as to not being fair and balanced and perceived mistreatment of trolls and assorted malcontents. Got news for all, I'm NOT fair and balanced. I'm biased toward God, country, family, liberty and freedom and against liberalism, socialism, anarchism, wackoism, global balonyism and any other form of tyranny. Hope this helps.

Statement by the founder of Free Republic:

In our continuing fight for freedom, for America and our constitution and against totalitarianism, socialism, tyranny, terrorism, etc., Free Republic stands firmly on the side of right, i.e., the conservative side. Believing that the best defense is a strong offense, we (myself and those whom I'm trying to attract to FR) support the strategy of taking the fight to the enemy as opposed to allowing the enemy the luxury of conducting their attacks on us at home on their terms and on their schedule.

Therefore, we wholeheartedly support the Bush Doctrine of pre-emptive strikes on known terrorist states and organizations that are believed to present a clear threat to our freedom or national security. We support our military, our troops and our Commander-in-Chief and we oppose turning control of our government back over to the liberals and socialists who favor appeasement, weakness, and subserviency. We do not believe in surrendering to the terrorists as France, Germany, Russia and Spain have done and as Kerry, Kennedy, Clinton and the Democrats, et al, are proposing.

As a conservative site, Free Republic is pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-Constitution, pro-Bill of Rights, pro-gun, pro-limited government, pro-private property rights, pro-limited taxes, pro-capitalism, pro-national defense, pro-freedom, and-pro America. We oppose all forms of liberalism, socialism, fascism, pacifism, totalitarianism, anarchism, government enforced atheism, abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, racism, wacko environmentalism, judicial activism, etc. We also oppose the United Nations or any other world government body that may attempt to impose its will or rule over our sovereign nation and sovereign people. We believe in defending our borders, our constitution and our national sovereignty.

Free Republic is private property. It is not a government project, nor is it funded by government or taxpayer money. We are not a publicly owned entity nor are we an IRS tax-free non-profit organization. We pay all applicable taxes on our income. We are not connected to or funded by any political party, news agency, or any other entity. We sell no merchandise, product or service, and we offer no subscriptions or paid memberships. We accept no paid advertising or promotions. We are funded solely by donations (non tax deductible gifts) from our readers and participants.

We aggressively defend our God-given and first amendment guaranteed rights to free speech, free press, free religion, and freedom of association, as well as our constitutional right to control the use and content of our own personal private property. Despite the wailing of the liberal trolls and other doom & gloom naysayers, we feel no compelling need to allow them a platform to promote their repugnant and obnoxious propaganda from our forum. Free Republic is not a liberal debating society. We are conservative activists dedicated to defending our rights, defending our constitution, defending our republic and defending our traditional American way of life.

Our God-given liberty and freedoms are not negotiable.

May God bless and protect our men and women in uniform fighting for our freedom and may God continue to bless America.

Jim Robinson

Thanks for this post. I've found Free Republic to be not only informative, but also very open to differing viewpoints, so long as they don't violate the posting rules, and even the posting rules are very flexible.

This forum is so good because FR has developed a terrific balance of wide open debate without allowing Dadaists to degrade the forums by posting nonsense and throwing bombs for the express purpose of destroying debate.

Like any creation from the mind of man, this place is imperfect, and as with any gathering of Americans with varying experiences, there are differing opinions about how those experiences, good or bad, should influence our future policy as a people and as a nation...and what backup plans we should have in place in the event of the failure or misfire of any of the hopefully ambitious ones. This place is not so vain about itself that it can't spot warts and flaws and correct them; instead of coverup, improvement and repair rules around here. Once a national trait, we may see the pendulum swing back that way again...and in part, perhaps, because we've set the example.

But my grandfather's dictionary defined politics as a plan or structure designed to influence future events; and so if some, maybe most, public officials often get a bad rap nowadays, those who remember the body politic and heed the thoughts it offers generally do a little better. I personally know of at least one fairly prominent congressman who's not a freeper, but who surfs here regularly. I'm very pleased to admit that he contacted me with some requests for information about a technical matter of concern to him, and I did my best to fill him in. I'm sure there've been many other and better examples of the same sort of thing happen.

So Jim Rob created a garden; and like any of its kind, it has its weeds, and sometimes crows come to peck at the blossoms. That which grows here is a particularly hardy plant, poisonous to those who try to devour it and thorny should they try to uproot it. It's better that those who would attempt such actions try it here than where more delicate folwers bloom that might more easily be eradicated. We won't be.

And if Jim Rob were to be run over by a bus tomorrow, he'd be missed and mourned by those here, of course, but the garden he planted would bloom on, offering flora both decorative and nourishing...as well as self-propagating, and expanding. That is not at all the only legacy he'd leave behind, of course, but it's certainly a major one. And it's even more than at least one former President of the United States, the 42nd one, can claim.

Not bad. Not bad at all.

Do you freepers ever get together?

Check out the "Support our Troops" rallies and the "Protest Rallies" freeps/threads that we do frequently here.

We need the support for the War on Liberal ignorant/insolence.

The concept of a pre-emptive strike presumes that the other guy was going to strike you. We now know that Saddam Hussein had neither the weapons nor the intent to strike the United States of America.

While billions of dollars were spent on attacking, invading, occupying, and then rebuilding Iraq, al-Qaeda continues to build itself as a terrorist network.

I'm glad you believe in the principle of pre-emptive strike. So do I. But the Iraq War was not a pre-emptive strike. It was a mistake.

Thank you Jim.

One of the many reasons that I love FR is that you are a leader with a backbone. I also appreciated that you are mature enough to make decisions that aren't always going to be popular, and that you can take the heat when a few people fuss over those decisions.

Thanks so much, Mr. Robinson. I only wish I had found this site in time for the 2000 election.

I, too, USUALLY wish the trolls would stay on DiminutiveUnderparts--they are so much fun to kick around, though....

And I don't care what you have said in the past, I still think there are a lot of JimRobBots here on FR. ;o)

I was watching cartoons on Nickelodeon with my kids before they went to bed earlier, when a "Rock the Vote" ad went on...in the middle of Spongebob Squarepants.

Some idiot kid makes a statement to the fact that the government gets to decide "when my big brother goes to war", "how much money my grandmother gets from Social Security", and "who he can marry", but he gets to chose who they are by voting.

I was outraged!

My oldest son (8 years old) asked me what had upset me, and I said "that commercial" I said..."you mean the chose or lose one Daddy?"

This is bull$hit, that they should throw that crap at elementary school kids watching cartoons.

It's war Jim, and if we're not all standing on the same battlefield when it hits the fan, we will lose.

Matters of policy can be debated after we ensure ourselves that there will be someone in the White House who will listen to us...and John F'ing Kerry is not that man.

God Bless our nation, our troops, and our Commander in Chief.

Now, let's get busy!

Jim,

Thanks for such a clear and refreshing statement. You have graciously shared your web site with us all these years. You get to call the shots on who you let in. When you declare your values so clearly those of like mind will congregate here. This has been my cyber home for the last six years. It is a place where I feel at home and among friends. Keep up the good work.
