NYT Best Seller/Anti-Bush book claims: Jeb's 1994 Running Mate was a Marxist (who died in 1942)

Note from summer: This is a true story.
I was in Barnes & Nobel today, and I happened to pick up a new, non-fiction, NYT best-seller, anti-Bush book, published in January 2004, titled:
American Dynasty: Aristocracy, Fortune, and the Politics of Deceit in the House of Bush
by Kevin Phillips
It is currently ranked #3 on the NYT Best Seller list for hardcover, non-fiction. Here is the cover of the book:
I was reading a few pages about FL Gov Jeb Bush, and thinking it was nothing I hadn't seen before on some Dem web site, until I got to page 221.
On that page, the author informs us that the person who ran as Gov Jeb Bush's running mate in the 1994 FL Gov Race was "Tom Mooney."
Now, I do not know everything, but I was pretty sure that was wrong. And, it only took me about 2 second to look up Gov Bush's running mate on google, and confirm I was right: The name of his running mate in 1994 was Tom Feeney.
I then looked up the name "Tom Mooney" who is alleged by the author of that book, above, to have been the running mate of Gov Jeb Bush, and found that "Tom Mooney" is a Marxist who died in 1942.
Needless to say -- I did not buy the book.

Tom Feeney. Perhaps you remember TF for the 2000 election debacle. He was the leader in the FL congress. Good man.

Isn't Free Republic great? A few years ago you were a happy Democrat, eagerly believing all the crap you were told to believe by your party leaders, the media, and the education bureaucracy.
Today, you're helping to expose those lies. When you shine the light of truth on those lies, they look as silly as the one in this book.

ROTFLMAO....well, I must say: one need not be a rocket scientist to "expose" any "lies"! Good grief; there are "mistakes" all over the place!!! :)

>"Sadly, Kevin Phillips used to be a conservative."<
Actually, I don't believe that he ever was conservative, he just played one on the radio years ago, when CBS used him in their left-right soundbite debates.
Kevin Phillips, William Safire, and more recently, David Brooks, who pitches supposedly right-handed softballs for his lefty opponent on PBS to hit out of the park, are what I refer to as "Potemkin" conservatives. They are false fronts - facades that look like the real thing from a distance but crumble like cardboard under closer examination.

they look as silly as the one in this book.
And, yes, "silly" is a good way to describe this error/mistake/whatever - but that author's credibility with me is now ZERO. So is his book publisher's.

"I just hope that these kind of books - and there are a lot of them - are not seen as "historial" in the future. I don't think they can honestly claim to be historial in nature. I hope this is not all we are left with."
They won't be. They'll disappear down into the great septic tank of history. ;)

Maybe I'll get on placing my fiction book, Elective Decisions there. It has a highly conservative bent. The whole problem in placing it with a major publisher.
Thanks for the info.
Chris, an idiot conservative author. :)

You're both wrong and right there. If you're an author, it makes a BIG difference as to who publishes them. Otherwise, you gain little or no respect in the "liberal" publishing community.
Unfortunately, that's the way it is. Personally, I don't care as long as the reader likes it.

Kevin Phillips is a leftist who has been hacking around for years. Every so often he pops up on TV to add his own personal flourishes to the latest DNC talking points. In the end he's just another pundit. Nothing special, that's for sure.
To: writer33
From an author's point of view, you're right, of course. I was speaking from the reader/buyer's point of view.
Good luck with your book!

BARNES & NOBLE! I think they have an agendaDoes a fish swim? Does a bear do his business in the woods? Is the Pope Catholic? Yes, they have an agenda. I'm almost ashamed to say that I worked for that company for 7 months back in the 90's. I'm going to start wearing it as a badge of honor that they fired me.
