Gibson's passion film 'too Catholic'
Belfast Telegraph ^ | 19 March 2004 | Alf McCreary

Posted on 03/19/2004 9:59:58 AM PST by presidio9

THE controversial Mel Gibson film 'The Passion of the Christ' has been dismissed by the Evangelical Protestant Society as a 'Catholic' interpretation of events which "does not present the Gospel".

Wallace Thompson, secretary of the Evangelical Protestant Society, said the film displayed "an un-Biblical fixation on Mary, the mother of Jesus. None of this should surprise us, for both Mel Gibson and Jim Caviezel, who plays the part of Christ, are enthusiastic devotees of the traditional teachings of the Church of Rome."

He further claims that Mel Gibson "belongs to an ultra-conservative Catholic group which does not recognise the reforms of Vatican II, and celebrates Mass in Latin".

Mr Thompson says that "this malign influence of Rome ought to cause all evangelical Protestants to reject The Passion of the Christ" and refuse to be swayed by the subtleties of the alleged arguments in favour of it.

Sadly, however, it will be welcomed and praised by many who ought to know better."

Mr Thompson also says that the film is "extremely violent", and that "anyone who watches it will be shaken and possibly terrified by its graphic and bloody scenes."

Hi Dave, I'm around when I can be. Two little girls now and -- *gasp* -- a third on the way. (God truly has led me from tragedy to joy, that's for sure). But I enjoy reading and learning from you & so many of the other Catholics here. Thanks for continuing my education! :-) Would love your opinions here.

Well, really! What is up with claiming vicar means antichrist? That sounds like something the omniscient little cult of two would say.

I'm going to dinner. I don't see it as coincidence that I get hit with scores of responses that say nothing from Cronos until they find one overgeneralization they can pick apart and descend on me in concert like wolves. It's dishonest and makes my point for me. See ya'll after dinner.

The origin of the word propaganda. I just googled it and got this (for propaganda+Latin+origin):

This is a neuter plural gerundive based on the root "pagus" which means "rural district" so, assuming the common "necessity or obligation" use of the Latin gerundive, the meaning is "things needing (or deserving) to be spread to the countryside." I definitely do not believe the two natures separable. I am a father and a husband, and I can speak and act from either capacity without diminishing either role or my person. Thus, Christ.

That is indeed the orthodox Christian position. But when you were talking about how Mary could not have had "all" of God in her womb, you are seeking to divide Christ.

What the heck was YOUR source, or did you just make that nonsense up?

I did actually just make that nonsense up to laugh at post #929 which goes like so

Peter wasn't the Bishop of Rome. And Pope is the title, not Bishop. Remember "Vicar of Christ". That title came from the Roman Emperors. In place of Christ = antichrist. Amazing how that works isn't it. Now, are you going to just continue sniping with soundbites and claims or are you going to eventually say something?

Should have put the </sarcasm tag....

Still wondering. How do you know you are right and billions of others are wrong? What about Protestants who disagree with you on some point? How do you KNOW they are wrong in disagreeing with you?

You have, thus far, refused to answer this. Why? Why do you refuse to answer? Perhaps if we knew where your perfect authority comes from we would all follow you in your impeccable truth.

Are you trying to start a flame war?

It's a joke. Lighten up. I'm not aware of many of Robinson's supporters around here. And any sincere Anglicans know they have my sympathies. It was just a word game.

There's been several requests for references/citations for information for statements made by Havoc that have been asserted as fact. Those don't appear (to me anyways) to be "overgeneralizations". It's a request to provide sources, as part of a debate. I'm sorry if some folks want to be able to say whatever they deem fit, assert it as fact, and then get upset if folks challenge those assertions by requesting sources.

Havoc is not the source. Havoc provided you with enough information to research it yourself in order to satisfy yourself as to what I've proffered. Instead of doing so, you attack and besmearch myself and said source. You have no interest in the fact, your interest is the attack. Just as you had no interest in the point of contention only in where you could find fault on a peripheral matter. Now, I'm off to eat. Perhaps you can recover yourself some level of honesty in that time? No?

Busy as a bee, huh? My little girl is nearly 3. She is such a treasure and she may be our only one. Still, it fills you with a completely different kind of love and joy to hold your own child. As soon as she's potty trained I want to freeze her in time.

If only our priests had the power to control time and space. LOL

Oh. That would have helped. I have read such wild-eyed nonsense and hysterical claims from the omniscient cult of two, that I just took it for seriousness when I saw it. I should have realized it was sarcastic, but I didn't see that you wrote it. Sorry.

But you don't understand: Havoc IS the source, the citation reads "Havoc says so." He is the alpha and the omega.

True, and the rest of us just follow Juli baby, the Anti Christ, a.k.a Vicki. Some follow Vicki Jeanie Robinson, the Queen of Episcopalia.

But then if we found scum to play with, we'd lose

Maaan, I am going to bookmark this link for laughs!

He is the source of his own perfect authority. Havoc has initiated the world and all the Truth therein.

To be honest, Havoc did already address the source of his authority to proclaim infallibly all things right and wrong. Post 420:

First: With deepest respect, who are you to teach anything?

Titus 2:15 These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee. The whole 3 chapters are rather instructive as to who I am. It's instructive as to who all Christians are supposed to be.

It's simple. Havoc thinks he's Titus. Or rather, he confuses Paul's words to Titus as being a general command to himself.

True, but the Cthulhu, sorry cult of two are not really a cult, us Catholics are actually the cult (*loads of sarcasm*), and not only us Catholics, but Orthodox, mainstream Protestants, everyone except Cthulhu are CULTISTS. Shockin' isn't it?
And us especially, as we follow Vicki,

Mull it over while you are eating. Why does the Holy Spirit give the perfect truth and authority only to you, and not to any who might dare to disagree with you?

I would like to know. My belly button is rapidly puckering and unpuckering in eager excitement to hear your cogent and highly informative response.

I am quite satisfied as to what you have proffered: All of christendom is bound by your own personal interpretation of scripture. Having been presented with epic expanses of hubris such as yours, laughing at you is all that remains.

But I do besmirch your lies and false witness...this I do proudly and honorably.
