Parents of first-grade girl angered by children's book about gay princes

WILMINGTON, N.C. -- The parents of a first-grader are fuming over the book their daughter brought home from the school library: a children's story about a prince whose true love turns out to be another prince.

Michael Hartsell said he and his wife, Tonya, couldn't believe it when Prince Bertie, the leading character in ``King & King,'' waves off a bevy of eligible princes before falling for Prince Lee.

The book ends with the princes marrying and sharing a kiss.

``I was flabbergasted,'' Hartsell said. ``My child is not old enough to understand something like that, especially when it is not in our beliefs.''

The 32-page book by Linda De Haan and Stern Nijland was published in March 2002 by Tricycle Press, the children's division of Ten Speed Press of Berkeley, Calif. A follow-up, ``King & King & Family,'' was recently published.

The publisher's Web site lists the books as intended for readers age 6 and up.

Barbara Hawley, librarian and media coordinator at Freeman Elementary School, said the book has been on the library's shelves since early last year.

``What might be inappropriate for one family, in another family is a totally acceptable thing,'' said Elizabeth Miars, Freeman's principal.

Hawley said she couldn't comment on the book because she hadn't seen it. She declined to say whether she knowingly selected a book on gay marriage.

The Hartsells said they are keeping the book until they get assurances it won't be circulated. But Hawley said all county schools have a committee that reviews books after their appropriateness is questioned, and the Hartsells must make a written complaint and return the book for review.

The Hartsells said they intend to file such a complaint and are considering transferring their daughter.

We could all see this coming at us like a freight train.

First the softening of language:
Sodomite/homosexual = "gay"
homosexuality/abnormality/deviancy = "alternative lifestyle"
Even psychiatry has been influenced and changed from 'within.'

Pedophilia is the one stumbling block. Can't "soften" that --- it is incurable.

How to get around it? Warp and twist the vulnerable minds of young children. Well, let's start with making homosexuality "romantic" --- this book is an abomination.

I am not optimistic either. But I will not give up the fight. Look forward to reading your opus MM.

Thanks for the pings yall.

"Daddy's Roommate" has a plot line, if I remember correctly, of Daddy divorcing Mommy to go off with his gay lover. Mommy however accepts this as No Problemo,

This book obviously belongs in the adult fantasy section. Ask a woman who has had her husband leave her for another man how she felt about that. I can guarantee you she did not "accept it as no problemo."

A book like the one described would be normal in Chapel Hill or Durham, but in Wilmington?

We had a former homosexual speaker at our church a couple of years ago who presented an insider's view of the homosexual community. Amazing but very disturbing presentation.

Did anyone make an audio recording? I'd love to hear it. If not, could you summarize the presentation? Thanks!

Well, if enough people are not willing to stand up to the homosexual activists and tell them in no uncertain terms to keep their bleeping hands off our kids, if people do not care enough to know what kind of filth they are being taught in school, then we might as well give up right now and ask the good Lord to step in and finish this nonsense as quickly as possible.

IF these perverts get their way via "marriage" or "civil unions", then EXPECT this to be REQUIRED READING so potential "hate crimes" will be stopped. Imagine how thrilled the liberal elite will be to push this on innocent children and IF they decline, then they are "homphobes" and potential "hate crime" offenders.

And have Child Protective Services investigate the parents for child neglect/abuse/endangerment.

"Ask a woman who has had her husband leave her for another man how she felt about that."

I don't know any women like that, but I do have a friend whose wife left him for another woman. He was fine with it and the three of them were good pals. Later, he remarried and the new wife was not as charitable toward the whole situation (go figure!)...

Can it get any worse for young girls? First we're told that rarely does a man turn out to be a "PRINCE," and now we're told that rarely will a PRINCE turn out to be a "MAN."

I'll check and see if there's a tape of it in the church library.

The guy was HIV-positive. I can't remember what kind of job he was in as a late teenager, but it was something that landed him in a party crowd, and in very short order this straight (and obviously gullible) guy was convinced that he was really a homosexual who just didn't know it yet, and was inducted into the lifestyle. He talked about the incredible promiscuity, the outright conscious strategy-based recruitment of children, the orgies, the staggering teenage male prostitution, etc.

If enough people cared, we wouldn't have already gotten to this point. We've been on a steady slide into depravity for decades now.

It was a mistake to trust their precious child to the tender mercies of the Berkeley School Board in the first place.

They didn't trust their child to the Berkeley School Board.

So is there a chapter where Mommy has an AIDS test? I thought not. I wonder how many books are in that school's library that feature a family going to church and talking about how important and wonderful it is to go to church and practice their faith....

Yes, my mistake. It was not Berkeley.

However, I think the same is true for almost any school board in the country. School boards have agendas. They do not necessarily agree with the parents.

Thank you for posting this information. As we are well aware, homosexual recruiting is a serious problem, and this information provides additional documentation of that fact, as well as the fact that homosexual behavior is chosen.

Seven Steps to Recruit-proof Your Child

Recruit-proof your child against homosexuality

National Coming-Out Day is a day that those who are engaging in homosexuality are encouraged to announce that fact to their families, friends, employers and anyone else who will listen. It is a day that many parents fear.

If you haven't adequately educated your child about sexuality, he or she could be vulnerable, and once involved with homosexuality, escape can be difficult. Author Scott Lively has written a guide for parents who want to be pro-active called "Seven Steps to Recruit-Proof your Child." Perhaps the most important step is to understand that gay activists do recruit and that your children are at risk.

When most parents think of recruitment, they see it as the seduction of an innocent perhaps emotionally vulnerable child or youth by an older sexual predator. Today this recruitment takes place in hundreds of different ways. Gay propagandists bring their message to our children through television programs, movies, music, advertising, and through public education classrooms. Our parents never would have put up with "gay" activists coming into the schools to talk about their lifestyle, but this has become an everyday occurrence.

These sessions are no longer confined to junior high and high schools. A training video called "It's Elementary" teaches elementary school teachers how to get the "gay" message into primary grade classrooms. Books like "Daddy's Roommate" and "Heather Has Two Mommies" are all too commonplace. The National Education Association, the nation's largest teacher's union, has openly adopted guidelines for promoting homosexuality in public education and many private schools already have yielded to the pressure to present homosexuality as a normal.

Imagine what goes through the minds of 12-year-old boys and girls when a gay activist tells them that 10 percent of the population is gay, and that 10 percent of their class has this "sexual orientation." At this tender age, classrooms of teenagers and pre-teenagers, with their hormones raging, are being encouraged to follow their urges and experiment. If a child voices a question about the possibility of being gay to a teacher or other school officials, the parent most likely never will hear about it. These children often are referred to an outside "gay" counseling center run by active homosexuals.

It is more important than ever before that parents talk to their teenagers and pre-teenagers about homosexuality in a factual, but compassionate way. There is no scientific proof that one is born homosexual. It is a movement grounded in politics not science. In 1973, homosexuality was removed from the American Psychiatric Association's official list of disorders, not as a result of any scientific breakthrough, but by a campaign of intimidation and harassment. An independent poll of APA members conducted at the time showed that an overwhelming majority considered it to be a treatable disorder. Under continued pressure from homosexual activists, the APA subsequently voted to "normalize" sadomasochism and pedophilia.

Another important message to give your child, is that help is available for those who stumble. One is not born gay, and one does not have to remain in the gay lifestyle. If you need further information contact Exodus International at 206-784-7799.

``What might be inappropriate for one family, in another family is a totally acceptable thing,'' said Elizabeth Miars, Freeman's principal.

So much for any idea of community standards as to what we allow people to give to our children! It is time that Conservatives took off the gloves over this sort of clear cut child abuse.
