Email | None

Posted on 03/15/2004 12:13:01 PM PST by PetroniusMaximus

Within the last hour 5 missionaries were shot in Mosul, Iraq. Their condition is critical and we need to pray now that the military will be able to get to their position and take them to the military hospital in Baghdad. One of them was able to call leadership that he was in and out of consciousness himself. The next several hours are critical! Please be on your knees for these 5 people. Please pray for God's hand to sustain them and to guard their lives.

Thank you for your prayer during this time. Further updates will be sent as soon as we learn more information.

...these are Southern Baptist Missionaries…. Just happened

This is all I have.

That was not "Within the last hour", but on Friday. Today is Monday. Has there been a second event?

I knew that World Vision is in Iraq. Below is from their web site. The "missionaries" are doing a huge job here and around the world. They didn't leave when the going got tough like the U.N. did. World Vision isn't there to pass out blankets, they are there to help God's children. And I imagine they all knew what danger they were in - but STILL they stayed with it. God bless them and their families and their faith.

Hospitals in Al Rutba and Al Qaim were in need of supplies. After a first assessment, World Vision purchased medicines in Amman to complement the blankets, jerrycans and plastic sheeting stored in Amman and distributed the goods to hospital staff. Now World Vision assists the health sector in All Rutba by rehabilitating the primary health care clinic, which serves as the temporary hospital. From its base in Mosul, World Vision helps to ensure the adequate supplies of essential drugs for the 14 hospitals in the Ninewa governorate. The staff aims to re-supply intravenous fluids to these hospitals as soon as possible as well. The Telefar General Hospital was provided with medical supplies and an emergency health kit to meet the needs of 10,000 people.

You are, I'm sure, a nice person and a decent Christian.

But the reality of the situation with respect to these fanatic Muslims over there right now is extremely unstable and anything can set them off.

Its better to wait for the smoke to clear before you pcik your target.

***Has there been a second event?***

May have been. I rechecked my source email and it was sent at 2:15 so this may be new.

I assumed it was related to the othe Mosul story because it hit FR at the same time. Maybe it wasn't.

No I don't, but I don't think the poster would knowingly lie, so no harm in praying, if it turns out to be false, I don't think any harm has been done. He knows what is going on over there.

"Is this related to an early report that 3 civilians were killed?"

I'd say so. Fox reported three killed and two wounded...all non-military Americans.

Nowhere in the post does it say the "missionaries" were from World Vision. In fact it says they were Southern Baptists and that the incident just happened (vs. the Breaking News report that says it occurred last Friday. I'm unsure whether we are discussing one or two incidents). Regarding World Vision, I recall reading about them, IIRC, a year or so ago when one of their doctors was murdered in Yemen, I believe.

American Christian missionaries are present and active in many areas of the world. In Saudi Arabia, China and other nations they can be imprisoned or killed just for having a bible in their possession. However, these locations are not active war zones with American soldiers under daily attack. And I want to stress that if just their presence there could lead to additional attacks, injuries and deaths of American soldiers, I oppose these activities.

Prayers going out, and for our military men and women who are too often forced to rescue those who choose to travel without escorts in a war zone, endangering our troops, and our war effort through the inevitable propaganda.

Is it against a calling to use common sense and be aware of the surroundings...to be prepared, not knowingly endanger others?

ALL are asked to wait for a military escort before traveling in Iraq.

Christians should know better than anyone how any attacks will be used by the Enemy to hurt their and OUR cause in Iraq.

They should wait for an escort. Sorry. They just endangered our troops, and our war effort.

Heavenly Father, we return to give You thanks that You know who these dedicated missionaries are, and exactly their needs at this very moment. We praise You for those willing to bring Your compassion and Your word to others who do not know of Your love and mercy. We ask for their safety in the midst of strife ... their recovery in the midst of attack ... their "Well done, thou good and faithful servant" at the moment of their home going. In the Name of Jesus, cover the land with Your word, that others might have life eternal ... Amen

No, they should not be there right now. They endangered themselves and endanger the troops who have to extract them and treat them at taxpayer expense. If you put yourself into a situation such as this you should expect the possibility of taking some lead for your efforts.

The 23rd Psalm --- Translated to Present Reality !!!

The Lord is my Shepherd --- That's Relationship!

I shall not want --- That's Supply!

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures --- That's Rest!

He leadeth me beside the still waters --- That's Refreshment!

He restoreth my soul --- That's Healing!

He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness --- That's Guidance!

For His name sake --- That's Purpose!

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death --- That's Testing!

I will fear no evil --- That's Protection!

For Thou art with me --- That's Faithfulness!

Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me --- That's Discipline!

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies--- That's Hope!

Thou annointest my head with oil --- That's Consecration!

My cup runneth over --- That's Abundance!

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life--- That's Blessing!

And I will dwell in the house of the Lord --- That's Security!

Forever --- That's Eternity!

Thank you for your beautiful prayer, Pegita.

I know you keep our troops in prayer, too, thousands and thousands of courageous and faithful troops following their own calling.

Why don't more of our churches understand that God's Soldiers are at work in Iraq and wherever they are called to serve?

Forgive me, but I am having a difficult time understanding the American church's role in our communities today. They seem mostly silent, or self-serving, or on the side of appeasing the terrorists.

I would put my saftey and life in Christ's hands anyday! It takes an amazing amount of faith to go to countries in the middle east for missions. My take is that this country needs them more than ever. I wish I had this kind of faith but am working toward it :^)

GD: A wonderful presentation of the Psalm; speaking the Word over the situation is very powerful in deed!

Pegita beautiful prayer and I agree with you too!

kayak: The LORD has pierced the darkness over Iraq; He has cracked the shield of darkness that was over the country! His Work will continue and the Christians in Iraq are blessed! Many will come out of darkness into the Light! HalleluJAH! May the LORD touch those who have been hurt and give them a mighty testimony on His Goodness and Mercy.
