Threat Matrix: Daily Terror Threat - Thread 5
CNN ^ | March 12, 2004

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- This week's deadly train bombings in Spain will not lead to a rise in the U.S. color-coded terror threat alert system, a Department of Homeland Security spokesman said Friday.

"Based on the current intelligence, we have no specific indicators that terrorist groups are considering such an attack in the U.S. in the near term," said department spokesman Brian Roehrkasse.

"The flight crew could hold the medication with them. If the person was in a diabetic coma, they would have to land for administration of the drug so as not to risk it being something other than medicine. You're correct, it could be anything in the vial."

I would hope that medication was administered before one went into a coma; you can't just let people go into comas or even go unconscious before allowing them access to their medication. People don't always come out of comas; the lawsuits would be staggering; and if anyone purposely let my child go unconscious, have a seizure, or slip into a coma before administering medication or allowing him/me access to his medication and supplies, I wouldn't be responsible for my actions.

With regard to flight attendants holding the medication and supplies until it's needed, there is still the same problem. Someone could always just say they need it and do something entirely not nice once they gain access to it.

I can't remember if it was 2003 or 2002 but I remember several incidents in several Pennsylvania schools involving an outbreak of rashes, the cause of which couldn't be determined. I'll try to find the story(ies) as soon as I catch up with these posts.

Where does it say the outsourcing was going overseas? Was that in the article?

Outsourcing means contracted to a private business.

Al-Qaeda planned London attack
March 29, 2004

AL-Qaeda terrorist network leader Osama bin Laden instructed his operations chief to prepare a strike on London's Heathrow airport soon after the September 11, 2001 attacks in the US, it was reported yesterday.

In a dispatch from Kabul, Britain's The Sunday Times newspaper said it had seen transcripts of the interrogation of Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the most senior Al-Qaeda operative to be captured in the US-led war on terrorism.

Mohammed, 37, who was seized in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, in March last year, stated that he met bin Laden in the Afghan capital Kabul several days after the September 11 attacks.

"It was at this time we discussed the Heathrow operation," he was quoted as saying in the transcript.

"Osama declared (British Prime Minister Tony) Blair our principal enemy and London our target," he said.

The Sunday Times said Mohammed arranged for operatives to be sent from Pakistan and Afghanistan to the British capital where they began surveillance of Heathrow and surrounding areas. But the operation never got beyond the planning stages, he reportedly told his interrogators.

My concern is the attitude that "emergencies" mean that all laws and regulations are immediately negotiable. The belief that an emergency entitles one to ignore the laws on the books because they represent an inconvenient limitation on the desires of persons not authorized.

The only instances where an emergency situation allows extreme license with the law is when a pilot in command of an aircraft or the master of a vessel needs to step out of the bounds of established procedures to safeguard the lives and property that are at risk if such actions are not taken. It is a temporary delegation authority. Such authority is limited to the aircraft or vessel and terminates when the "emergency" circumstances are back in control.

Tailoring communications law is not something that you will be doing arbitrarily and at your whim in an emergency. If the law needs "tailoring", the FCC will do so and publish the "tailored" version so that everyone is playing by the same, consistent set of rules.

In short, I'm not agreeing that you can do anything that pleases you in an emergency. If you violate the law and the privilege to use the radio frequencies that is granted by the FCC, your equipment can be seized.

Allah knows that there blood is permitted and their wealth is a booty, their wealth is a booty to those who kill them.

In short, Islam directs its adherents to murder and steal the property of anyone who is not a Muslim.

Thanks. Now we understand the ground rules.

We do not have to differentiate between military or civilians. As far as we are concerned they are all targets.

Remember that! It applies both ways.

It is clear that mankind has descended to the lowest degrees of decadence and oppression. They rip us of our wealth and of our resources and of our oil.

The Middle East had little "wealth" to barter with the world before the oil resources were developed by American oil companies. All such development came at the risk of American capital and industry. It was wildly successful. Why didn't those brilliant Arabs and Islamic thinkers figure this out first?

Our religion is under attack, they kill and murder our brothers. They compromise our honor and our dignity and dare we utter a single word of protest against the injustice we are called terrorists.

What a pantload. Islam attacks innocent people and then pretends to be the victim? Islam proudly takes credit for bombing innocent people and complains when we label such acts as terror! Islam complains when Islamic terrorists are hunted down and eliminated.

It is difficult to discern whether mentally ill people are attracted to Islam or if Islam is the cause of mental illness. Whether cause or effect, radical Islam is the enemy of the civilized world.

Diabetic coma is the consequence of too much insulin. You don't remedy the problem by injecting more insulin. The usual approach is to start shoving lots of orange juice down to get the blood sugar back up before the patient becomes comatose. I had to rescue my dad a few times when he worked too hard for the mix of insulin and sugar in his diet. The physical labor burned off the sugar and the injected insulin pushed the remaining sugar levels to the point where he because confused and incoherent. Five glasses of orange juice and an hour in his "comfy chair" was sufficient get him back in the game.

Missing an insulin injection won't cause a "coma". It will make the person feel sluggish and the high sugar levels in the blood will cause damage over a long time frame. The time required to fly an aircraft between any two points in the world is NOT long enough to justify bringing diabetic supplies as "carry on".

Selene- re: "but all indications point to a virus spread when people touch infected surfaces."

I have worked in numerous settings with large groups of children and adolescents. I have NEVER seen a situation develop where more than one child became so ill he or she could not make it to the bathroom.

Something is very wrong here!

RE- I95 in Bridgeport. I thought the same thing until I looked at the map. Exit23 comes just before several major highways branch out.

Ok folks. Please tell me if I am suffering from "false memory syndrome".

The morning of the I95 crash, there were numerous reports from reliable sources that DHS had informed Connecticut of a terror threat to the Bridgeport area, including the ferry area. They were concerned with rail in that same section. Local officials were quoted on the record as saying that in these times, all such reports were taken very seriously, and they were going to be patrolling 24-7.

Then, that evening the fire from the tanker crash basically obliterates a section of 95 near Bridgeport.

By the next day, there is a story out that the "terror threat" to Bridgeport did not really exist after all; it was bogus.

Now today a simple explanation is given.

On the TB discussion board and others, are reports from eyewitnesses who claim that the accident did NOT occur as stated by officials. It is reported that CNN is showing pics of the fire which are not accurate, as well. It is also reported that power was out in numerous areas around Bridgeport and that there was a bomb threat to the city.

Yesterday and today there is NO mention of this being a terrorist act.

Remember that old movie- Gaslight????

None of the Connecticut newspapers are even mentioning the threat. I don't understand why the media isn't pressing for answers on this one.

freeperfromnj- Are the local papers there any more forthcoming about the I 95 and Goethal's Bridge crashes?

How can the Feds warn CT of a terror threat to the Bridgeport area, and when the "accident" takes place, deny it could be terrorism?

Not only deny it was terrorism, but report that THEIR OWN warning was bogus in the first place??

Now suddenly the money is rushed to CT and the bridge should be usable within a few days.

Do you recall years ago when a section of I95 collapsed- (I think it was around Stamford.)

It was night time, and several cars plunged off the end. That accident was discussed for MONTHS to follow. It was a front page story, and had continuous TV coverage.

Why so little discussion of this accident?
