Threat Matrix: Daily Terror Threat - Thread 5
CNN ^ | March 12, 2004

Posted on 03/12/2004 8:23:06 PM PST by thecabal

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- This week's deadly train bombings in Spain will not lead to a rise in the U.S. color-coded terror threat alert system, a Department of Homeland Security spokesman said Friday.

"Based on the current intelligence, we have no specific indicators that terrorist groups are considering such an attack in the U.S. in the near term," said department spokesman Brian Roehrkasse.

I couldn't disagree more with your assertions that the FCC will suspend rules in case of an emergency and allow anyone to transmit. Quite the opposite. It likely they will clamp down and demand radio silence except from specifically authorized stations. Radio communications are critical in an emergency. It isn't a resource you allow to be squandered by a cacaphony of unskilled, untrained and unlicensed operators.

Getting a license is VERY easy. Five year olds have done it. The back cover of the Extra Class manual has praise offered by a high school sophomore. There is plenty of time to learn and get a proper license. Please don't encourage people to purchase gear with the intent to break the law when we need the resources most.

More weirdness at Yellowstone: Might be nothing, but is in that Norris area where the Buffalo roamed. Seems this thing is way active, for some reason.

Temperature Logs for Steamboat Geyser
Steamboat, located in Norris Geyser Basin, is one of Yellowstone's most famous geysers. Eruptions occur sporadically, but are well worth the wait. Columns of hot water reach heights up to 100 meters. This is followed by a raucus steam phase that can last for over a day, loudly discharging steam nearly 200 meters into the atmosphere.

Steamboat has proven more active during the early 21st Century than any time since the early 1980s. Between late 1991 and 2000, there were no eruptions. However, since May 2000, Steamboat has erupted 6 times... most recently on October 22, 2003

Looks like I answered the fire-truck-roads post before it really came up, so here is the rest of the answer and NO I will not don the tinfoil.

I am seeing with one eye, so am not able to read all the links that I find, when bedtime came last night I wasn't ready, so did a quick google for a line in our link to the terrorist training manual and found it of course, but also several other links and this is one of them.

Google Search for:

a how-to terrorism manual

#6 in the Attack Indicator is:

March 30th - "Land Day"

Annually features protests against expropriation of arab property.

Have to ask, "Is Oil arab property?", yes, I know what the common law is, but then the arabs do not follow our laws.

That could mean that even the roadway surface, as it is usually made of oil products, is considered to be arab property.

With this url, take off the end of it up to the "/" and you will find more of interest, all you need to do is erase words, all the way to the .com

http://www.terrorismcentral.com/Library/Causes/ForecastNextWaves.html

We must keep in mind that we are now under threat from every terrorist group, including our own peta type groups, this is the big push that we have been watching develop for months.

a note on above google search, do at least 10 or 20 pages of results, there is a good site on every page or close to every page.

From a Yahoo search for:

1425 full moon and its angels

http://www.shiachat.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=28211

They say that Bin Ladin could have been caught.

Not earth shaking, but then it overwhelmed my computer and I looked at only a tiny bit of the site.

Sending hugs and prayers for your safety.

Jordanian Suspected Behind Madrid Attacks

By DANIEL WOOLLS, Associated Press Writer

MADRID, Spain - Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, a Jordanian linked to al-Qaida and suspected of heading a terrorist network in Iraq, is now believed to have been the brains behind the deadly Madrid railway attacks, a French investigator told The Associated Press on Friday.

Investigator Jean-Charles Brisard said Spanish officials told him some suspects held in the March 11 attacks were in contact with al-Zarqawi as recently as a month or two before the bombings, which killed 190 people and wounded more than 1,800.

"They believe today he was the mastermind," Brisard, who is probing the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States, said in a telephone interview from Geneva, Switzerland.

The Spanish Interior Ministry declined to comment on his assertions. "The investigation is at a critical stage," a ministry official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Brisard's comments came as the probe spread to Germany, a key staging ground for the Sept. 11 attacks on New York and Washington.

German police raided an apartment in Darmstadt where a Moroccan suspect arrested Wednesday in the Madrid train bombings stayed briefly last year. The 28-year-old man is suspected of membership in a foreign terrorist organization, a prosecutor said.

But German officials said they had no evidence that the Madrid attacks were planned or prepared in Germany.

Morocco, the native country of at least nine of the suspects, reported its first arrests in the case, although a senior official said they had not yielded significant information.

In Spain, authorities announced another arrest Friday, and a judge charged a 12th suspect in the case.

Spanish investigators believe six or seven of the 18 people now in custody in Spain helped plan the Madrid attacks and that al-Zarqawi was behind the plot, Brisard said.

In just two weeks, Spanish police say they have put together most of the pieces of the puzzle behind the bombings, Brisard said. "The picture is almost complete now," Brisard said.

"They are basically telling me that several of these people are talking a lot," Brisard said, referring to suspects he did not name.

Brisard is working for lawyers for relatives of Sept. 11 victims and has a copy of a dossier prepared by Spanish Judge Baltasar Garzon, who is investigating an alleged al-Qaida cell in Spain. Garzon says the cell's alleged leader and other members helped prepare the Sept. 11 attacks.

Suspicion in the Madrid bombing has fallen on an Islamic extremist group from Morocco. The lead suspect, a Moroccan named Jamal Zougam, was described last year by Garzon as a follower of Imad Yarkas, the alleged leader of the Spanish al-Qaida cell. The description appeared in an indictment returned in September against Yarkas, al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden and 33 other terror suspects.

The French investigator said the Garzon dossier showed that from 1996 to 2001, the Spanish al-Qaida cell's alleged financier, Muhammed Galeb Kalaje Zouaydi, wired $100,000 to an operative in Denmark named Abu Khalet, who produced some 30 fake passports for al-Zarqawi and people close to him.

The passports were completed in late 2002 but it is not clear if al-Zarqawi received them, Brisard said.

U.S. officials blame al-Zarqawi for the March 2 bombings in Iraq that killed at least 181 Shiite Muslims. Ansar al-Islam, the group to which al-Zarqawi is linked, has often attacked Iraqi targets — Shiite pilgrims or Iraqi police — with the aim of sowing discord and perhaps civil war. Al-Zarqawi is also believed to have been behind the 2002 killing of Laurence Foley, a U.S. diplomat in Jordan.

At Spain's National Court on Friday, Judge Juan del Olmo charged suspect Faisal Alluc, a Moroccan, with collaborating with a terrorist group. He said he found insufficient evidence against another Moroccan, Khalid Oulad Akcha, who was returned to jail to continue serving time for unrelated, non-terrorism charges.

Hours later, a new arrest was announced but no details were disclosed about the suspect.

In Germany, authorities did not identify the suspect whose presence in that country triggered the raid Thursday night on an apartment in Darmstadt, south of Frankfurt. They said he had been registered since October as a resident of the apartment but apparently spent "only a few days" in Germany last fall.

Investigators are examining documents seized in the raid, said Horst Salzmann, a spokesman for federal prosecutors in Karlsruhe. He refused to say what role the Moroccan is believed to have played in the Madrid bombings.

Germany and Spain were believed to be important launching pads for the Sept. 11 attacks.

Investigators say lead suicide pilot Mohamed Atta and other Sept. 11 plotters worked out of Hamburg, Germany before the attacks. Atta is known to have visited Spain twice in 2001, including a July visit that Garzon says was used to plot last-minute details in the devastating strikes on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon

None will dare call it "terrorism" unless it becomes obvious.

Too many things going on at once with no explanation along with too much hatred toward us by radicals who live here among us. The jihadis have threatened us "in our own homes" and what better way for them to do it by small continuous events around where we live and work (psych-ops) for maximum effect. Fires are key in the jihadi picture posts. They may believe they can wear us down and take advantage in some way when opportunity presents itself (for instance all emergency personnel are called to the fire locations leaving another location open to them unchallenged. Just a thought.

It appears that escape from New York is now being taken out one bridge at a time.

The purported jihadi attack will be directed at Manhatten. Taking out the bridges may be a preliminary step to prevent escape or access by emergency workers.

I haven't forgotten all the stuff we found during and after the Iraq war from Jordan. Not to mention this Zarqawi is Jordanian. They probably can slip in and out of Iraq through Jordan and on to whatever target they want.

FBI Director Warns Terrorists Looking at Elections

WASHINGTON: During an interview with the Associated Press Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) director Robert Mueller said Thursday that terrorists could attempt to influence the outcome of the U.S. presidential election by launching attacks in America and overseas.

http://www.emergency.com/ennday.htm

Mueller also said that Islamic extremists were changing tactics and focusing on recruiting local sympathizers who were less likely to arouse suspicion with authorities,
unlike foreigners to the country who draw attention.

"In the wake of what happened in Madrid we have to be concerned about the possibility of terrorists attempting to influence elections in the United States by committing a terrorist act," Mueller said. Those conventions will bookend the Summer Olympics in Athens, another venue that could draw terrorist attacks. The United States has been concerned that security efforts in Athens may fall short of what is necessary to protect athletes and spectators.

Fiery Truck Wreck Forces Evacuation 03-26-04

BRULY ST. MARTIN, LA-- Occupants of about two dozen homes in the Bruly St. Martin area of rural Assumption Parish were ordered to leave for two hours Thursday while emergency crews dealt with a tank truck loaded with liquid natural gas that overturned and caught on fire.

Assumption Sheriff Mike Waguespack said the wreck occurred just before 8:45 a.m. on La. 69, a quarter of a mile south of La. 996 and La. 70, near the boundary between Assumption and Iberville parishes.

Waguespack said the 18-wheeler, carrying 6,800 gallons of liquid natural gas, overturned after the driver had trouble negotiating the southbound 1998 Freightliner around a curve on La. 69.

Matt Trahan, a spokesman for State Police Troop C, said that the truck rolled onto its driver's side and hit a tree.

Sparks from the road or engine ignited a large fire and forced authorities to order residents in the area to leave for their own safety.

Waguespack said his deputies made sure there was no one in a 2-mile radius of the fire because 2 percent of the cargo consisted of benzene, a hazardous chemical.

Waguespack said the fire was contained and under control by 11 a.m., allowing the residents to return to their homes at that time....

India Test Fires Trishul Missile for Second Consecutive Day 2004-03-26 20:12:55

NEW DELHI, March 26 (Xinhuanet) -- India on Friday test fired its most sophisticated surface-to-air Trishul missile for the second consecutive day.

The short-range missile was indigenously developed by the Defense Research Development Organization (DRDO) under the Integrated Guided Missile Development Program (IGMDP), the Press Trust of India reported.

The missile was test fired from a mobile launcher at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur of central India's Orissastate, said the report.

The missile was successfully test fired from the ITR Thursday.

The three-meter-long missile with a diameter of 200 cm can fly at supersonic speed. It has a sensitive radar altimeter and heightlock-loop control on board which helps it to skim over the sea at very low altitude.

The solid-fuel-propelled missile has a triple battlefield role for the army, air force and navy and has a range of nine km with the capacity to carry a payload of 15 kg. Enditem

OK, I don't need any help to scare me!

I decided to do a Google search on a part of your message, so I did: (the simple granny search, not an advanced one)

death from a thousand cuts

1425 death from a thousand cuts

You will be surprised what comes up for these two searches.

It means small operations, which I interpret as close one road at a time, or burn one area at a time.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/the_death_of_a_thousand_cuts

Or on page 2, this jumped at me, appears that it is a speech on computer programmers/sales, but the title and address are in the google link, so will put it here, is it near the fire? Google has an HTML version of it, as I can't open PDF, with this computer.

This is useful and think that it will be of interest to us in reading the messages we see.

I typed 'black wind' into the on site search engine, appears interesting, one of the answers is at:

I think it might be wise for the other hams on this thread and I to get our heads together and come up with a frequency list and maybe a net protocol

If you decide to do that (I think it's a great idea) please ping me/post here what you come up with. We have shortwave (listening capacity) and my husband knows how it all works, but, I'm at the very beginning of the learning curve.

I appreciate your insight...In the technician manual "Now you're talking" June 2003, they recommend the same thing that I had mentioned in the earlier message, which is to buy and listen to 2 meter and 70 cm...but they emphasis that it is illegal to transmit without a license (which I thought that I had explained in my earlier message)...I thought that I had also explained that during an emergency, rules change for those who can/can't transmit. These rules are not yet known, but could be anything - what every they are at the time of emergency, they are to be strictly followed. If I didn't say it correctly in my earlier message, I apologize. If you don't agree with my clarification in this message, you may need to get in touch with FCC - stated in section 97. While I agree that it should not become the "Wild West" by any and everyone transmitting, rules can be adjusted when an emergency is involved. This could mean that if there are not enough licensed HAMs to help out in an emergency, that non-license people could step in (deputizing of control operators). But I do stress that whether you have a license or not, in emergency situations, you should NEVER tie up frequencies that are being or could be used for real emergency situation...but I thought I made that clear...sorry
