Threat Matrix: Daily Terror Threat - Thread 5
CNN ^ | March 12, 2004

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- This week's deadly train bombings in Spain will not lead to a rise in the U.S. color-coded terror threat alert system, a Department of Homeland Security spokesman said Friday.

"Based on the current intelligence, we have no specific indicators that terrorist groups are considering such an attack in the U.S. in the near term," said department spokesman Brian Roehrkasse.

131 ft. but if AQ has rogue boats, ships and ordinance...it would not be out of the question. I believe that there has been ongoing problems with the Chunnel with regard to illegal immigrants using it to gain access into the UK.

Just chilling....I hope that those in the know have thought of this.

"Amid evidence that hundreds of foreigners have crossed Iraq's long and porous borders to join the fight against the U.S.-led occupation, U.S. officials in Iraq said on Saturday they would unveil tougher border security measures."

Too bad we don't qualify for tougher border security.

Camilo Mejia, of Miami, center, is surrounded by supporters after a news conference, Monday, March 15, 2004, in Sherborn, Mass. Mejia, who has not reported for duty since going on leave Oct 1, 2003, was to turn himself in at Hanscom Air Force base in Concord, Mass., on Monday, where he will seek conscientious objector status. G.I. Seeks Conscientious Objector Status

By ADRIAN SAINZ, Associated Press Writer

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. - A U.S. soldier, who refused to return to Iraq after he was shaken by a gunfight that killed innocent civilians, reported to his unit Tuesday in preparation for seeking conscientious objector status.

Staff Sgt. Camilo Mejia walked into the building housing his Florida National Guard unit at the North Miami Armory after repeating his determination not to return to the Middle East and fight.

"I'm prepared to go to prison," Mejia said.

Mejia, 28, of Miami Beach, was in Iraq for about five months last year until October, when he returned home on leave. He did not return to duty. He surrendered Monday at an Air Force base in Massachusetts and was ordered to return to Florida and report to his unit, the 1st Battalion, 124th Infantry Regiment of the Florida National Guard.

"This is an oil-driven war, and I don't think any soldier signs up to fight for oil," Mejia said Monday after arriving at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

His attorney, Louis Font, said he believes Mejia is the first soldier to turn himself in after refusing to return to Iraq. Mejia said he would seek conscientious objector status. In Iraq on Tuesday, officials said two other soldiers were seeking objector status there.

Lt. Col. Ron Tittle, a Florida National Guard spokesman, said Mejia would likely be sent to Fort Stewart, Ga., to meet with a military legal services team.

Mejia said he was particularly upset over an incident in Iraq in which he and others were ambushed and innocent civilians were hit in the ensuing gunfire.

A native of Nicaragua, Mejia is a permanent resident of the United States who served in the Army for three years. He had served in the National Guard for five years when his unit was called to active duty. In civilian life, he was a psychology student at the University of Miami.

Mejia said he joined the military upon his arrival in the United States so he could work his way into American society. He could not say whether he might be deported because of his refusal to serve, but said "whatever sacrifice I have to make, I have to go there."

Meanwhile, in Iraq, a commander said two U.S. Army medics there have applied for conscientious objector status. Capt. Todd Grissom said said the two, both privates first class, notified the Army of their request on Feb. 9, the day before their Germany-based 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment deployed to Iraq.

The two want to be honorably discharged from the military because the idea of killing is "revolting" to them, Grissom said Tuesday.

Grissom would not identify the two soldiers, saying only that they come from California and Illinois. Their requests were being investigated, he said.

French Probe Threats by Islamic Group

PARIS - Officials are investigating threats against France and its overseas interests by a radical Islamic group, the Justice Ministry said Tuesday.

The group identified itself as the "Servants of Allah the Powerful and Wise," the ministry said.

The nature of the threats was not immediately disclosed and it was unclear whether the group is known to French authorities.

French Europe-1 radio reported that Le Parisien newspaper received a fax from the group, threatening attacks.

The ministry confirmed a communique had been delivered to the newspaper, adding that it is "not yet possible" to comment on the document's authenticity.

The Paris prosecutor has opened an investigation.

In the past weeks, French authorities have received terror threats from another little-known group calling itself AZF.

The group claimed to have planted nine bombs along the country's rail network and has threatened to explode them unless it was paid millions of dollars. Information from AZF led to the recovery Feb. 21 of an explosive device buried in the bed of a railway line near Limoges in central France.

Please bid me tinfoil license.....I have been finding increasing info. regarding Bermuda and Cuba. Bermuda is located approx. 586 miles from the coast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina (this close location to the East Coast is particularly troubling).

The following articles indicate links between Bermuda and Cuba....Bermuda looking for Independence from Britian...and Alex Scott who won the election in Bermuda in 1998, which is the same year that Louis Farrakhan visited both Cuba and Bermuda in Feburary 1998.

There seems to be an emerging Bermuda...Cuba link. Our United States Consul General Denis Coleman last week (03/12/04) gave warning to Bermuda with regard to their ties to Cuba with regard to trade and flights.

US Consul hits out at Cuba links (Links between Cuba and Bermuda) March 12, 2004
By Ayo Johnson

United States Consul General Denis Coleman yesterday accused Government of fostering economic relations with Cuba and warned it could lead to a deterioration of relations between Bermuda and his country.

Mr. Coleman accused Government in a television interview of breaking a promise last year that its relations with Cuba would only cultural when it agreed to allow a regular charter flight to the Communist Caribbean island.

But Community Affairs Minister Dale Butler maintained last night that Government's dealings with Cuba were strictly cultural and there was nothing Government could do - short of an outright ban - that would stop individual citizens engaging in business with the Caribbean nation.

And Transport Minister and Deputy Premier Ewart Brown said Mr. Coleman should talk to the Governor.

In an interview with VSB TV last night, Mr. Coleman said relations between Bermuda and the US were “not as good as they used to be”.

He said the US was “strongly against” Government's commercial relationship with Cuba.

Government was going against its promise that links would only be cultural, but “now it is fostering economic relationships”, he said.

“We do feel it is like sticking a finger in our eye.”......

Island Pushes for Independence from Britain (Bermuda)
March 3, 2004

Bermuda's Premier has called for a national debate on independence from Britain, saying the wealthy island can fully develop only if it breaks centuries-old colonial ties.

Alex Scott's centre-left Progressive Labour Party supports independence but has not put the issue on the agenda since winning power in 1998.

"It is for the people of Bermuda to decide whether or not they wish to become independent," Mr Scott told supporters.
"But we consider it our duty to declare our conclusion that only with independence can national unity be forged and pride in being Bermudan fully develop. We call on the people of Bermuda to act boldly in fashioning their future."

The ruling party supports putting independence to the test at a general election, but the centre-right opposition United Bermuda Party favours a referendum followed by a constitutional conference. The next general election must be held by 2008.

About three in four Bermudans voted against independence when it was last put to a referendum in 1995, but the poll was boycotted by the Progressive Labour Party.

Bermuda, an Atlantic island of 62,000 people, about 1000 kilometres east of North Carolina, would be the third-richest country in the world based on a gross domestic product per capita of nearly $US60,000 ($78,000).
The self-governing colony, which has been under British control since 1684, has one of the world's biggest reinsurance markets and is the nominal home of 13,500 international companies.

Business groups welcomed the call for a debate on independence.

"The subject is going to come up and it is good that he [Scott] is looking for an open discussion," the president of the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce, Charles Gosling, said.

Min. Farrakhan visits Cuba, Bermuda (February 1998)
Excerpted...

Later that evening, when the chartered airplane carrying Min. Farrakhan and his delegation from Cuba touched down in a rainstorm in the capital of Bermuda, a "self-governing British dependency" Feb. 18, a crowd had already gathered at the National Sports Stadium.

Despite the driving wind and rain, the crowd grew to 5,000 as the Muslim leader's motorcade hastened along the dark, slick, winding, hillside roads, then erupted in cheers when the vehicles entered the muddy field, and the Minister sprung onto the stage. "As-Salaam-Alaikum (Peace be unto you)," Min. Farrakhan said.

"Wa-Alaikum-Salaam (And unto you be peace)," the crowd roared in response.

At that moment, the clouds seemed to open up again, and a downpour deluged the crowd. Not one person left his seat. Not one of the thousands of umbrellas sheltering the eager audience even budged.

It was a moving "homecoming" sight because Bermuda, 580 miles from the coast of North Carolina, is special to the Minister. Sister Sumayah Farrakhan (May Allah be Pleased with her), the Minister's mother, was born on Bermuda. On May 11, 1936 Min. Farrakhan celebrated his third birthday on Bermuda, and he still has vivid memories of that joyous day, in that place, in his childhood.

And despite the fact that his father was killed by a construction crane on that island-a crane that is still standing-for many, many years there was a travel ban against the Muslim leader visiting Bermuda.

"I want you to know," Min. Farrakhan told the Bermuda audience, after thanking them for waiting for him and then listening to him in a downpour, "I am not a hater of white people. I am not an anti-Semite."

The Nation of Islam leader also expressed profound appreciation to Byron Muhammad, a Nation of Islam minister and follower of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, for his tireless efforts in having the travel ban lifted, and for organizing the "homecoming" rally in Bermuda.

Hikers Find Bag of Stolen Explosives; More Missing (Colorado)
Article Published: Wednesday, March 17, 2004
By The Associated Press

COLORADO SPRINGS - Hikers stumbled onto a stolen bag of ammonium nitrate-based explosive, the same type used in the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing.

The 50-pound bag was one of eight stolen last summer from a concrete company in northwest Colorado Springs. There was no sign of the other bags.

"Three-hundred fifty pounds are still out there somewhere," said Rick McMorran, a bomb technician from the El Paso County sheriff's office.

The amount of ammonium nitrate and fuel oil mixture stolen was enough to blow apart a three-story building, authorities said.

Searchers with a bomb-sniffing dog went to the spot Monday where hikers found the bag, near Cheyenne Canyon, but turned up nothing.

The material was stolen in July from a locked storage unit at Castle Concrete Co. at the Pike View Quarry in northwest Colorado Springs.

Ammonium nitrate and fuel oil can't be detonated without several other components. The contents of the bags resemble tiny, white balls.

The nitrate becomes more volatile as it is crushed into a finer powder and smells like diesel fuel.

An estimated 4,800 pounds of ammonium nitrate and fuel oil were used for the bomb that blew up the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City and killed 168 people. Denver juries convicted Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols on federal charges in the bombing.

McVeigh was executed. Nichols was sentenced to life in prison and is now being tried on state charges in Oklahoma.

I'm sure they're going to find connections with the domestic terrorist movement, ETA. The blasting caps were manufactured in Pais Vasco, and the Algerian arrested today was caught in San Sebastian, a Basque city, where he was involved in the drug trade and upon a drug arrest in January had threatened that hundreds of Spaniards were going to be killed in Madrid. ETA controls Pais Vasco very closely, and anybody who is involved in either the drug trade or terrorism up there certainly couldn't do it without ETA's consent.

There is, without a doubt, a connection between ETA, Morrocan Terrorists, AlQaeda and Communist Socialists

Google Search lawyer Victor Koppe (Dutch) and be sure to read the translatable pages.

Its ETA, Terrorists, and Commies and drugs throughout. I could not believe what I was reading.

If I can figure this out, I hope the Spanish and the media idiots can.

French, Germans Seek Anti-Terror Plan

By CHRISTINE OLLIVIER, Associated Press Writer

PARIS - The deadly train bombings in Madrid underscore Europe's need for a joint plan to fight terrorism, the leaders of France and Germany said Tuesday.

"All of Europe is the theater for terrorist actions," German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder said. "So we must, together, as Europeans, confront this terrorism."

President Jacques Chirac, speaking at a news conference with Schroeder, said the international community must "rally together to fight terrorism relentlessly and with all its strength."

Like Schroeder, Chirac said there must be a European plan against terrorism. He said the issue would be the focus of the next European Council meeting at the end of March.

"In the face of the threat, respecting liberties and a state of law, Europe will protect its citizens," Chirac said.

The two leaders said their countries have stepped up security since the attacks on four trains in Madrid on Thursday killed 201 people.

"Today, France is not threatened, but like all democratic countries, it is not out of harm's way for terrorist acts," Chirac said.

Schroeder called for even closer European and trans-Atlantic cooperation in the face of the threat. "This is a challenge that will last and weigh heavily and we must meet it," he added.

The news conference followed a working lunch the two held in Paris.

Nothing to worry about here, unless the other 7 bags get mixed with the 7,000 gallons of gas that was stolen in the Phoenix area a few months ago.

I do not know why, but in the past few years, there have been more than normal (to my mind) trucks and explosives stolen in the Denver area.

Late at night, I can sometimes get KOA 850 Radio here (Kingman, AZ) and they blow up all kinds of things there, lots of arson also.

It would be interesting to know why there was one bag found there and why it was left in the open, rain and snow would destroy it, I think.
