The Secretary of the Senate refuses to enforce the law. ACU now has no choice but to go to court, file a lawsuit, and compel the Senate to enforce the laws of the land. As you know, in 2003 Sen. John Kerry missed 60 percent of the votes in the Senate. This year he missed all 22 Senate votes until last week, when he rushed back to Washington at the behest of the gun control crowd to cast votes for a series of anti-Second Amendment measures. U.S. Code allows a Senator to be absent from the Senate only because of serious illness or illness in an immediate family member. Under the law, if a Senator is absent while the Senate in session, his pay must be docked for every day he is AWOL. But the Secretary of the Senate refuses to dock Sen. Kerry's pay for the days he is absent running for President. In response to ACU's letter demanding that she enforce the law, the Senate Secretary said that, because her predecessors had failed to enforce the law, she would not enforce it either. This is outrageous. ACU is preparing to file a lawsuit in U.S. District Court to compel the Secretary of the Senate to enforce the law and dock the AWOL John Kerry's pay. Our lawyers say we have an excellent chance of success in court. Interesting. One thing the ACU ought to do is to see if there are any Republican Senators who have missed a lot of votes. The Dems are sure to try to dredge that up and embarrass the Reps if this suit goes anywhere.

...the Senate Secretary said that, because her predecessors had failed to enforce the law...I guess if your friends jumped off the Empire State Building you would too? (Just thought I would throw in one of Mama's old sayings, --- seemed appropriate.)

When Kerry stops being a coward and starts taking reporters' questions, here's a good one...
Sen. Kerry, in 1996 Sen. Dole was roundly applauded for not only resigning his leadership post, but for resigning from the senate. Since you've missed over 85% of your obligation to vote, will you resign?

Dock everyone in government across the board who doesn't show up for work! It's different for the peons who have tracked regular hours, leave, sick leave, etc., just like everyone else, including time cards that the supervisors fill out. I wouldn't mind the implications of this spreading, as it will keep the politicians accountable at least for their time we're getting charged for.

Yes, but let's start with Kerry.
No other Senator, according to the congressional record, even missed 30% of votes last term. He missed 64%.

Memo to Senator Kerry:
It's hard to believe you really understand the workers of America.
- Are you expecting them to pay your salary, even though you do not show up for work?
- Don't you know that, if they miss too many days of work, their pay is docked?

Emily Reynolds Emily J. Reynolds was appointed Secretary of the Senate when the Senate convened on January 7 for the 108th Congress. Prior to her appointment as Secretary, Reynolds was the chief of staff for Senator Bill Frist. She is the thirty-first person, and the fifth woman, to serve as Secretary of the Senate. Reynolds began her career in politics in 1980 as a special assistant to Senator Howard H.Baker, Jr. In 1985 she worked on the successful Senate campaign of then-Governor Kit Bond of Missouri. Subsequently Reynolds worked in seven statewide campaigns in six states, including the Senate campaigns of John Danforth, John Heinz, and Kay Bailey Hutchison. She joined the Bush/Quayle presidential campaign in 1992 as deputy director of national coalitions.
A native of Nashville, Reynolds returned to her home state of Tennessee in November 1993 to serve as deputy campaign manager and finance director for Dr. Frists Senate campaign. During Senator Frists first term in the Senate, Reynolds became his state director. She then managed his successful reelection campaign in 2000. As chief of staff for Senator Frist since January 2001, Reynolds supervised his Washington, D.C.and Tennessee offices.
Reynolds received a B.A. in political science and television/radio/film from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. Immediately following her graduation in 1978, she was named as the college's associate director of admissions. She has remained active with her alma mater and served on the board of curators and as chair of the alumnae development board.

Perhaps the ACU needs to find some citizens in Massachusetts to act as complainants citing the Constitutional provision that prohibits a state from being deprived of its two Senators without its consent.
