LIBERAL TALKRADIO NETWORK TO LAUNCH MARCH 31 Wed Mar 10 2004 13:15:26 ET
Air America Radio, a progressive talk radio network, announced today it will hit the airwaves on March 31st. "Air America Radio is launching in the top U.S. markets with leading talent that will provide compelling and entertaining programming on the radio, on satellite feeds, and on the web," said Mark Walsh, Chief Executive Officer of Air America Radio. We aim to build an important new media franchise that delivers results.
The networks on-air personalities represent todays top political and popular satirists, commentators and activists. Comedian, and best selling author Al Franken, who was recently taken to court when Bill OReilly and Fox News were seeking an injunction to halt distribution of "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right," and is known for fact-based, drug-free satire, will host a weekday show on the network called The OFranken Factor.
Im so happy that Air America Radio will be on in three battleground states, New York, Illinois and California
.no wait
those arent battleground states. What the hell are we doing? said Franken.
Air America Radio has signed actress and comedienne Janeane Garofalo, hip hop icon Chuck D, radio personality Randi Rhodes, and political humorist Sam Seder to join Franken at the network. Environmental activist Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., The Daily Show co-creator Lizz Winstead, and business-of-the-media analyst on the public radio program Marketplace Martin Kaplan will also join the network......

I also notice they are on a bunch of 500-watt stations at bad parts of the dial that are overpowered by the hum of electrical lines and police radios. They will boom in within three blocks of the transmitter. It is to laugh.

April 1st would be a more appropriate date.

The overall upshot is for this to succeed as a "National Network" they don't need just a single success story but a whole set of them.
Not one of the folks they are pitching has a national radio presence, which says something in and of itself. Some can do standup comedy. Some are local radio hosts who have never made it past the local market.
By starting a "network" even if they get a single great one the rest likely won't succeed nationally. And they won't be able to sell enough ads to make the network profitable. They could always just hire local talent in each market but that defeats the whole network concept.
Ultimately it will collapse under its own economic weight. Methinks the timing of the start was delayed because even they know it won't work and they want to make sure they have the dough to make it till November.
They forget that The Mighty Maha Rushie didn't start this way. He started on one station and was so popular he got a second and a third, etc. etc. etc.
Pity they aren't going to be a public company so I could short sell the stock.......
And "battleground states" ? Since when was IL a battleground state. Bush will not carry IL I'm pretty sure of that. I think he'll win the nation but not IL.

Never mind how pathetic they are, we need to kill them at birth.
As soon as they say something outrageous, wqe should all pile on their advertisers and boycott their products.
No revenue - no show....

MIDI - VIDEO KILLED THE RADIO STAR
(musical intro)
I was listening to Hannity or Rushbo
When I tried another station...why?...I don't know
I heard someone and I said, man does this guy blow
Oh-a-oh
In no time I quickly reached the right conclusion
I determined that he needs a brain transfusion
The poor guy was really suffering delusion
Oh-a-oh...the guy was crazy...oh-a-oh...he's freakin' crazy
Liberals stunk my radio up...liberals stunk my radio up
Just 10 seconds...that's enough...now, it's in the trash can
CNN and Jennings spew the same old prattle
Those who watch them follow like they're sheep or cattle
In their heads we're sure we heard something rattle
Oh-a-oh...the guy was crazy...oh-a-oh...he's freakin' crazy
Liberals stunk my radio up...liberals stunk my radio up
Just 10 seconds...that's enough...and that decision had not been tough
Now, it's in the trash can...stuffed down in the trash can
(musical interlude)
I'll miss that old Grundig
Liberals stunk my radio up...liberals stunk my radio up
Just 10 seconds...that's enough...and that decision had not been tough
I won't put up with that stuff...always whining while in a huff
(musical interlude)
Liberals stunk my radio up...liberals stunk my radio up
Liberals stunk my radio up...liberals stunk my radio up
Liberals stunk my radio up...liberals stunk my radio up
Liberals stunk my radio up...liberals stunk my radio up
Liberals stunk my radio up...(fade)
(musical finish)

Additional programming will include Best-of Air America Radio and Best-of-OFranken Factor as well as other original programming to be announced soon.

Air America Radios partnership with WLIB owner, Inner City Broadcasting Corporation, is a complementary agreement that builds on the goals of each organization to bring new energy and new immediacy to messages, issues and audiences that deserve a place in todays media marketplace.
We are excited about the diverse and important voices Air America Radio is bringing to the airwaves, both on our own WLIB signal and others, said Pierre Sutton, Chairman of ICBC. This strategic partnership allows both companies to combine our resources and deliver relevant messages to a broad and diverse audience. Our talented Mark Riley joins new and exciting co-hosts throughout the broadcast day in multiple major markets to open the airwaves to opinions and entertaining commentary that Americans can hear nowhere else. Live streaming of Air America Radio shows, along with show archives, will be available on www.airamericaradio.com. Air America Radio is in negotiations with satellite television and satellite radio providers. These national services will allow potential listeners to tune in anywhere in the country. The details of these partnerships will be unveiled soon.
Our success to date proves what we have known all along: a progressive radio network can be entertaining and engaging while also being a successful business venture. We have made a lot of progress
and more is to come. We expect to deliver valuable listeners to our advertising partners, said Evan Cohen, New York-based investor and Chairman of the board of Air America Radio.

They're going to be on New York station WLIB -- and no, I'm not making those call letters up!
To: Blue Scourge
O'Reilly will play straight into Franken's hands by constantly bellyaching about his use of O'Franken Factor. This should be funny.
