Answer some questions
Posted on 03/10/2004 12:47:41 PM PST by Mad_at_Taxes
A friend at work and I were having a discussion and he asked some questions that I was unable to answer and I knew I could get the answers here:
1)Why are gas prices so high and Why has the Bush administration turned a blind eye when Clinton/Gore were able to call for investigations to keep the prices low.
2)Who sold North Korea their WMDs and what did Clinton do about it?
3) Other than break-up the Soviet Union, What did Reagan accomplish other than a 12 year recession (I've already pointed out that it was Carter's fault and he blamed it on OPEC).

OK, I'll bite as well:
1). Supply and demand
2). NK has been developing their own WMDs since the 1970's
3). Say what? Reagan inherited a recession from Carter and turned into into a long expansion.

I'm equally dubious but here goes:
1)Why are gas prices so high and Why has the Bush administration turned a blind eye when Clinton/Gore were able to call for investigations to keep the prices low.
a) Gas prices are high because environmentalists have mandated different fuel variations for every sub-region of the country and eliminated the ability for new refineries to open and for existing ones to modify their configuration to supply these different variations leading to constriction on supply. Clinton / Gore released the national petroleum reserves as the "answer" - but that didn't help; all it did was give them something to crow about in the latter months of summer awaiting the election.
2)Who sold North Korea their WMDs and what did Clinton do about it?
North Korea makes their own WMDs and Clinton supplied them the fuel materials to do so in exchange for a "promise" that they wouldn't do so; it bears mention returning to this arrangement is Hanoi John's "solution" to North Korea WMD problem.
3) Other than break-up the Soviet Union, What did Reagan accomplish other than a 12 year recession (I've already pointed out that it was Carter's fault and he blamed it on OPEC).
12 year recession? more denial & fraud about the 80's.

I understand.
Not all are trolls. Sometimes I just ping people for the unusual tone of the thread.

Reagan's economic policies initiated 18 years of unprecedated economic growth. It has come out recently that the Soviets were allowed to steal intentionally rigged technology during the '80's that played havoc with their markets at timely fasion. Reagan knew of this. Reagan knew oh so much more than we can imagine. Everything from the Clinton administration was a lie. They tapped into the federal reserve of oil, Bush as had to replenish it. We could have all the oil in the world and we could not refine it any faster. The refineries are operating at at full capacity now. The enviromentalist have not allowed refining capacity to be increased, they are intentionally trying to hamper the American economy in order to achieve equality among the nations. North Korea, you do not make treaties and deals with murderers, torturers and thieves and expect them to abide by them. Clinton and Carter enabled NK to achieve nuclear weaponry and PAID them while they were doing so. Tell your co-workers, the adults are in charge now, real solutions are being initiated, the Clinton recession is over, the unemployment rate is lower now than what the average was for the '90's. We are at near FULL EMPLOYMENT! There are people who work more than one job, there are people on unemployment and welfare working for cash, we have the best economy in the world. There has not been a terrorist attack on U.S. soil since 9-11. AMAZING! Who do the terrorists want to win this election?

I wondered when someone would say what you said. Some so-called expert was on the radio this morning in Denver explaining there are something like 15 different formulas required by different states. Few understand the state environmental requirements impact on gas prices. The bottom line problem remains with various rules and requirements that are limiting creation of new processing plants. The US is producing close to 100% of capacity with no new plants.
To: Prime Choice
you reminded me, I forgot - Bush has proposed easing restrictions on new refineries & adaptation of old ones, opening the desolate tundra region of ANWR for sources of oil to eliminate our outright dependency on OPEC & the adoption of alternative fuel sources ie fuel cells, the energy bill being repeatedly demagogued and fillibustered by the DemoncRATs
To: Mad_at_Taxes
1.) The liberal Democrats told me that we were going into Iraq to steal their oil. I want to know who the hell I need to bomb around here to get some lower oil prices. Or were the Dems lying again?

Do you know why there was such a large and substained decrease in price post 9/11? I would suspect supply and demand, which is watch governs all pricing. We had a huge slump in travel and economy. Fewer jets and trips = less fuel. Loss of manufacturing, purchasing and associated transportation = less fuel. etc.

Reagan Record:
1. Tax Relief
2. Economic Growth
3. In 1982, 15% of America lived in poverty. By 1989, the number dropped to just a little more than 12%.
4. During the 1980s, charitable contributions increased by more than 50%.
5. In 1981, almost 10% of Americans were unemployed. By 1989 the unemployment rate fell to 5.5%.
6. Won the Cold War which resulted in a half-trillion dollar "peace dividend."
...just a few, as President Reagan's accomplishments are too exhaustive to list here.
To: Soylent Democrats
This is perfect, thanks!

Were the Democrats lying AGAIN? Did they ever stop? These are baby killers, lying is nothing to them.

That was uncalled for ... sorry for wasting your time.
btw, thanks for the info that was before the comment above

That is a very clever way to present moron dumbocrat talking points. Lots of exposure and publicity and all that. I think I'll try that technique over an DU and see how long
that lasts, LOL...
Dear DU: I was talking with a friend at work, a homophobic mean spirited Republican and he said some things I am too dumb to refute but I'll repeat them here in the hope that several hundred thousand people will see them and...
Never mind.

1)Why are gas prices so high Gas prices usually go up when winter ends and the weather gets warmer. Prices peak around Memorial Day. All-time high that I can remember was May 2001.

That was uncalled for ... You are right, and I apologize. I took some time putting the post together. If I had gone back and read your responses from after your original post, I wouldn't have said that.
As you can tell, your questions with limited info fit a profile far too many of us were quick to assume. I am sorry for my unkind words. May I suggest http://www.reagan.utexas.edu for further Reagan research.
