These are just the stats from the Bureau of Labor and Statistics (BLS). The first two columns and the links at numbers of jobs are from the BLS. Any other columms are simply my tabulations.
President Bush has a lower 1st term unemployment rate than Clinton. As you can see with Clinton's numbers, they started dropping at the end of the Bush1 administration as we were pulling out of that recession.

It would be nice to see President Bush and his spokespeople set the record straight and take the press and their Demonratic allies to task for their attempts to make it sound as if our country is to hell in a handbasket. Bush has to set the record straight and slam those who continually lie about the state of things. Also, our deficit is not the largest it's ever been. And he and the GOP need to point that out REPEATEDLY.
To: xzins
They better get this stuff out. Often and loud! GW is getting very successfully smeared IMHO. Nice guy ads just won't cut it.

Clintons numbers cannot not be trusted. Clintons cooked the books so there is nothing accurate about what that bunch claimed.
To: Just mythoughts
Even if the books weren't cooked during the Clinton years, how many jobs were related to: the Y2K issue; or the scads of dot-bombs that no longer exist? I think it is becoming increasingly clear that, from a historical perspective, Bill Clinton presided over a cakewalk. His predecessors' policies fueled the economy, and he pushed off future security concerns to his successor.
Anyone with a pulse could have had Clinton's "record"; although most wouldn't have been impeached.

It would be nice to see President Bush and his spokespeople set the record straightRemember the 2000 debates with Algore making up a visit to Texas-- Bush just stood there and "took him at his word". Call it 'new-tone' or 'slow with a come-back', but setting records straight just not GW's style.
Here we have more people are working now than ever before, and they're making better wages than ever before, and the Bush-bashers for Kerry and Buchanan are getting away with making up numbers. Wait a second, maybe we can play that game too:
With the Democrats NOBODY had a job and now EVERYONE HAS TEN JOBS!!
That's strange, when I do it I feel like an idiot.

We had two things -- the 9/11 attacks and the dot-com bust. When I heard some "expert" exclaim that the Dow would reach 40,000 I knew there was a big shell game going on and there would be a painful readjustment as real companies got sorted out from companies that just existed on paper.
Unemployment was bad but it could have been worse. Imagine a Gore presidency, where they are eagerly seeking to "negotiate" with terrorists while half of New York City is a radioactive wasteland and unemployment is 30% (imagine the media puppets telling us how 30% unemployment is a good thing because unemployed people can't buy SUVs and that terrorism has a bright side because the unemployed can take the jobs of the Americans killed off by the terrorists).
Oops, how rude of me to mention 9/11. 9/11 is either: A. Too traumatic to ever be mentioned. or, B. An insignificant event that happened a long time ago that should never become a political issue.

Thanks. I went to the website for BLS because I'd heard someone on the radio last week mention there were actually more jobs now than ever before. First, I ran across the unemployment rates and the low numbers that our President had compared to history were phenomenal actually. Second, I had someone complain about the unemployment rate as an indicator, so I went to find out the actual numbers of jobs. Lo and behold, our President presides over a time when we have more jobs than EVER! More than at any time in history! AND He has the lowest 1st term unemployment rate since WWII/Korea era. That's awesome work for a 1st termer.
Then I thought of how badly this economy got hit and what a superb job he did pulling the economy out of it.
.....The Clinton Recession
.....The Clinton Stock Market Tech Bubble Bursts killing millins of jobs
.....Then 9/11 hit right at the heart of the financial world killing more jobs
.....The 9/11 Airline industry took a nosedive killing more jobs.
.....The mutual fund scandal stole billions of dollars from the economy = more jobs
....Then the war on terrorism has taken its toll in increased budget costs.
I will vote for no one except George W. Bush. Period.

Amazing how the libs, their friends in journalism, some trial attorneys, corporate socialist good ole boys and a few Democrats can control the minds of a nation. Next thing you know they'll tell us the stock market was way down last year.

I have often thought that Clinton was the luckiest SOB that ever lived. He dodged more bad things and problems caused by his own stupidity than anyone else I've ever heard of. Eight years of pure luck. The chickens came home to roost on September 11, but he had already flown the coop by then.

.....The Clinton Recession .....The Clinton Stock Market Tech Bubble Bursts killing millins of jobs
I seem to remember conservative talk show hosts during the height of the dot com bubble and the hot economy of the late 90's saying it was the republican congress that created all the wealth and high rolling. when it crahsed it was the Clinton recession and the Clinton stock market. It can't be both.
To: W04Man
I'm on the list too and we have to help him make it. We can't give our coutry up to socialists and marcists. GOD BLESS AMERICA one nation under GOD with LIBERTY and JUSTICE for ALL.

I will vote for no one except George W. Bush. Period. I agree. The only problem is, IMHO, this election will be less about facts than simply "Hate Bush," and any lie, spin, or allegation will suffice if it inflames hatred for Bush. I hope Americans are smart enough to see the facts.

That isn't accurate, because when you add 10 million illegal aliens, the real number is 13.2 million jobs.
