March 15 issue - Admirers of Bill McRaven like to tell a story of his courage and grit. Not against the enemy, but against the legendarily ruthless Dick Marcinko, a gung-ho Navy SEAL commander in the Vietnam era who used to swallow sacs of cobra venom and boast that "killing is my mission." Marcinko once ordered McRaven, then a young lieutenant on the super-elite SEAL Team Six, to perform "some questionable activities," recounts a former Special Forces commander. McRaven refused and "would not back down." (Marcinko did not return phone calls seeking comment.) "McRaven was a hero among all the junior officers for his stand," says the commander. "It was considered a career-ending move."

The simple fact is sadism was always near the edge within the teams and was also not really tolerated because those who cross that line can get their teammates killed. There is a line between being a hardass and being a sadist and those who crossed that line were encouraged to volunteer out. The stories about the dogs are the same ones I heard and I further heard some things about not standing up for the men on his team.
When it comes to the teams everyone so relies on everyone else that anything crossing the line is going to endanger people's lives on the team and that is a very serious matter. Now being tied to a stake in the sun while naked on one's birthday while the mosquittos feast is merely camraderie. Smearing a jock strap with poison ivy oil a couple days before a wedding is similar.

I saw some rough hazing, but I always thought ruining a honeymoon was over the line. That would make me an enemy for life.

Having red hair and fair skin teh sun was a real probklem for me in SE Asia but even with a major league sunburn I was back in action after a couple of days. However, I never once faced the harassment of getting married while on the teams.

I heard of guys getting kidnapped before weddings, and forced to drink large amounts of booze (to ruin the ceremony), getting shaved, blue balls, all that. I thought that was over the line, but I never knew anyone personally it happened to. I did know a JO who was handcuffed to a lamp post naked on AP Hill overnight.

This has got to be the most exciting "man hunt" in history..
I sure hope that "capture" is NOT the objective...
This bastard NEEDS to be brought out DEAD.
Let the Jihadists "pay their respects" to a decomposing mess of worm food on a stainless steel rack at the morgue.
Alive - he would be the darling of the left and the Islamists -- partners in lunacy. Just as Aristide is now playing the leftist and stupid press like a cheap banjo..
I WARNED that this would happen if the rebels allowed Aristide to escape with his life.....
I good killing can NEVER be achieved once the original opportunity is missed.

Here's a link to the true story from the official USN publication
"All Hands" Here's the real photo.
The doctored photo has been selling in Thailand, Laos, for several years.
I've found in places of honor in Lao households here in the US too.
The story they tell is that all of those Americans in the photo died due to their touching of the sacred Naga.
They get a little upset, (after doing the denial thing,) when told they've been suckered.
