There is also an online petition to members of Congress:

Traditional marriage between a man and woman is the God-ordained building block of the family and bedrock of a civil society. Therefore, I urge your support of a federal marriage amendment to protect traditional marriage between one woman and one man. It has 1,116,930 signatures thusfar, if anyone is interested.

Dave, Dave, get a grip on yourself. Such a constitutional amendment will NEVER happen. And I'm glad it won't. Not because I'm in favor of gay marriage but because to clutter up the constitution with such NONSENSE is ridiculous since this is in the STATUATORY REALM. Plus any such constitutional amendment will be ineffective in the face of the looney activist judges. For example, I am SURE that a gay couple will merely proclaim that one of them is the man and the other is a woman (many gays already claim they are really female) and some looney judge will find the legal loophole. What's next? Another constitutional amendment that says a man can't marry his pet lamb? It is already illegal but you want to put that kind of stuff in the CONSTITUTION? Imagine how ridiculous the Constitution will end up looking.

You want to prohibit gay marriages? Then the answer is to get rid of LOOOOOOONEY judges from the bench or keeping them from ever getting there. Because I guarantee you that no matter how ironclad a constitutional amendment looks, the looney judges will find a way around it. And do we really want to clutter up the Constitution with dopiness as a way to counter (without effect) LUNATIC judges.

But, hey, if supporting such an amendment makes you feel better, be my guest. Just remember this effort will go NOWHERE and even if somehow it passed the lunatics will just find another way around it.

I met face to face with Rep.Marilyn Musgrave not an hour ago. She is my Congresswoman and I am proud of her. She has guts and is a scrapper.

As to the NAYSAYERS, sometimes you have to take a stand on PRINCIPLE and do what is RIGHT. We have to use every means at our disposal.

As for activist judges we have to go after them. How to do that is the big question.

Thanks for your input on this... I am not as concerned about it "passing" as I am about the PROCESS going forward... moving the process forward is the only way we can get our elected officials to take a moral stand one way or the other.. we can not continue to let them get away with saying crap like "I am opposed to gay marriage but don't want to do anything about activist judges creating it.." this is not acceptable... let the polititions take a stand on this issue on one side or the other so those of us who wish to support or oppose them can do so knowing where they stand...

Rep Hall, Ralph M. - 5/21/2003 [DR-TX-4]

Ralph is running for re-election as a Republican, after having been a Southern Democrat for decades. He now is counted as a Republican member of the House.
