Why Isn't There a Conservative Answer to MoveOn.org?
03-05-2004 | Americathy

I'm new to Free Republic, and I kind of see it as an activist haven for conservatives. But I only heard about it by way of an e-mail link, though once I think I heard Ann Coulter mention it on Hannity & Colmes. I'm sure there are other activist organizations out there, but I have to wonder if conservatives have anything like MoveOn.org. My guess is, no - at least nothing that is visible, or has the backing of huge money from people like George Soros, who I think is a very scary power player. Everyone knows that the Democrats can rely on MoveOn to be its mouthpiece, which means they have a way to get around campaign laws.

I saw an article linked on this site, by Mona Charon, that advises Bush to take the gloves off. If we had a MoveOn.org of our own, with the money to produce commercials, perhaps we could put those gloves on for ourselves. I would love to see some very damaging commercials about John Kerry's post-war record and his voting record. He is a traitor to this country, but all I hear from Republicans is how much respect his service to our country. I would respect it to if he hadn't come back as a traitor. I would love to see some Vietnam Vets step up to the plate on primetime.

Hillary is another problem. We need to crush her. I didn't hear a thing about Hillary's pro-Saddam comments this week until I saw a thread on this site, the article by Oliver North. I would love to see some commercials made by our own activist group that denounces her viciously. Put these rotten people's records in primetime. We must expose them and hit them with both barrels!

If there is an conservative organization that is comparable to MoveOn.org, please let me know, and I'll join up. After that I'll be asking, "Why haven't I heard of you? Is it me? And if you are out there, where are the commercials, the ads, the visibility? Do you have a big power player, an answer to Soros?"

Just some thoughts, and I would interested to hear what everybody thinks.

-Cat

I do agree with you though.

There should be an general organization that will refute claims made by MoveOn.org.

For some reason, conservative millionaires havent teamed up to organize such a group. I dont think MoveOn.org is really a bunch of grassroots liberals from DU or anything. I think they are a bunch of liberal elites with marketing skill getting paid by Soros.

How much do commercials cost?

...like Rush Limbaugh, or groups like the Heritage Foundation, don't do more television commercials.

Why? Do you watch alot of TV? Do commercials influence your political views?

Freeper junkie? Watch it, or some liberal will decide you need group therapy and a visit from the Reverend Jesse Jackson.

Absolutely, millions let the media tell them how to think AND vote.
That is how GWB's approval rating has gone down so quickly in the last few months- the constant outright bashing by mainstream news.

Maybe I'm just getting nervous. That article today about Hillary saying Saddam was pro-woman just INFURIATED me! I just want to beat the hell out of her. In fact I just want to beat the hell out of other women telling me that she represents women like me.

Apparently, she does not represent your views. Good for you. There are so many liberal women who think this B!+c# is a goddess. To me, she is the devil, and I am glad she represents the FAR LEFT of the RAT party.

Let me know when you want to start beating her or the other women you are talking about, and I will come and help you.....

I'm fairly confident that if conservatives tried to have something like moveon.org, we would be found in violation of CFR. It's a judgement call whether or not there is coordination between the independent group and the campaign.

The Left will get a pass, every time.
The Right will get nailed, every time.

Try grassfire.org. They're not as big and as well financed as MoveOn.org, but they're trying.

A grassfire.org ad against Kerry.

For organizing protests and counter-protests, check out ProtestWarrior.com.

And for an online new forum, interaction, conservative discussion, and such, Free Republic is the best game in town. Free Republic Network is doing some great things too.

Now, if we could combine them all and find some very rich benefactors we'd have something like MoveOn.org. But then we'd be controlled by outside interests and such.

Are you serious? I would be truly disappointed if we could find enough nut-cases among conservatives to try to imitate that neurotic bunch!

That there is not, I think, is the most comforting thing about the present political atmosphere.

Spread this to everyone you know!

Let's see them again...

Tomorrow, the first Bush-Cheney television ads will begin running all over the country.

Unlike the Kerry campaign's first ads last September, which included an attack on the President, our first ads are all positive, focusing on President Bush's steady leadership in times of change.

As a valued member of the President's team, you are receiving a special preview of these first three television ads.

To view the ads, please go here:

Thank you for your continued support.  We're counting on you to help re-elect President Bush this November.

Sincerely,

Ken Mehlman
Campaign Manager
Bush-Cheney '04

Trying. . oh no, they are getting there pretty quickly. I can't remember where I read it, but there was a story detailing how Grassfire.org was attracting Republican versions of Soros. I think between freerepublic, grassfire and rightmarch, there is enough there to sufficiently blunt MoveOn.

Sorry to disagree with your statement bout not getting on the same level as your enemy.

Thats like if during WWII the Allies said they would not sink to Hitler's level. Therefore we have decided to fight this war without killing any of the enemy.

Get some perspective here will ya! This IS a war, although not a shooting one (yet). Sometimes you just have to do some morally repugnant things during a war (for example, killing people during WWII) if you expect to win.

This site keeps the conversation alive and helps to mold our thoughts (at least it has mine). If we could only take it to the next step and force the media to contend with us ....

In addition to Daddy Sorosbucks' big money, many Europeans hate America - and some of them belong to MoveOn:

Brewing MoveOn Scandal Over Foreign Contributions Involves Dean, Clark Campaigns:

Interestingly, the article discloses that one out of every three members belonging to MoveOn.org are non-Americans, or 680,000 of the estimated 2 million members...

The article ends by stating that since this is a "globalized world," what happens in America greatly affects the rest of the world. As a result, Europeans and other non-Americans should go about trying to make changes politically...

Free Republic may not have a Soros-sized budget or global support, but we make a difference. Make no mistake, the liberal media know who we are.

I heard Rush address this issue several years ago, and his thinking was quite apt.
To paraphrase:

Conservatives by and large reject group identity and identity politics. They are people devoted to their rugged individualism. It is against their nature to gather into groups, for that would mean giving up some measure of their privacy and independance. They prefer to think for themselves and in general keep their thoughts to themselves. GThey wish to go about their daily lives without interference from Gov't, and by definition then, not have to spend inordinant amounts of time petitioning their Gov't.

I do think, however, that the time is come for more "gathering" of Conservatives. We must, at least, counter the lies told about us and the leaders we elect.
