I heard Rush address this issue several years ago, and his thinking was quite apt.
To paraphrase:

Conservatives by and large reject group identity and identity politics. They are people devoted to their rugged individualism. It is against their nature to gather into groups, for that would mean giving up some measure of their privacy and independance. They prefer to think for themselves and in general keep their thoughts to themselves. GThey wish to go about their daily lives without interference from Gov't, and by definition then, not have to spend inordinant amounts of time petitioning their Gov't.


I do think, however, that the time is come for more "gathering" of Conservatives. We must, at least, counter the lies told about us and the leaders we elect.
