I wanted to smack Leahy standing there at the mic claiming the memos were "stolen".Watching the replay now on C-SPAN 1, I'll kick him when he's down. ;-)

I think that Hatch tried to defuse the situation by giving a bit and the Rats steamrolled him.
Hatch just does not understand what they are capable of.
He got forked.

Hatch has been blackmailed for years by the Dems for having more than one wife back in Utah.
To: petitfour
That is extremely unsettling, and yet revealing at the same time.
Who is this Patricia Knight person?
As is always the case, the scapegoat is offered up to hide bigger problems. Here, I believe Hatch went along with the NAACP idea of holding a nominee back until a decision in the University of Michigan case was released, which effectively acted as a threat to the nominee to decide that case in favor of affirmative action or never see a Senate vote. Hatch is complicit, I believe, and this whole investigation and Miranda suspension is a smokescreen to hide his involvement in the blackmail.
Another sickeningly frustrating episode in the judicial nominee arena. Hatch and Knight need to be targeted with all the conservative might available or we'll just eventually end up with more Souters and Breyers.

I had the same thoughts you did while reading this. We DO need Judges who will stand up and do the right thing for this country rather than just undermine it for their own political advances. So what if the memo says they were going to use the war on terror for this purpose? What they said is the truth and there is no reason to try and hide it.

Well, the problem here is that this e-mail WAS addressed to Olati, though inadvertently, so whatever she did with was A-OK, regardless of what you put in the signature line - unless your signature line reads:
"This e-mail and all its' contents are intended solely for the use of someone else. If you have received this, please delete it immediately."

I just called Hatch's office about this -- dialed (202-224-5251) and asked for the Judiciary Committee. I agree completely with your comments and your disdain for the 'GOP leadership' which is, as usual, giving up without a fight. The staffer I talked to said that she is getting calls on both sides of the question -- I told her I'd call back so there'd be more calls on OUR side! ha ha
My points: Something worth having is worth fighting for, and Sen. Hatch does not seem to be fighting for President Bush's judicial nominees. Having judges who will uphold the Constitution is important to the future of the US, and well worth fighting for. If Hatch is not going to fight, he should at least NOT help to punish Manuel Miranda. The memos were NOT hacked or stolen -- perhaps Sen. Hatch, being of another generation, does not understand this. What Miranda and/or others did was not unethical -- just opportunistic. And certainly the Dems have taken advantage of such opportunities against us. We MUST fight just as hard for our priorities as the Dems fight for theirs. I am very disappointed in Sen. Hatch.
I hope other Freepers will make similar calls.

"Whorin' Orin"
I cannot stand that "fruitcake"! What a wussy (with a p). The Republican Party will be so much stronger when Orin and his crowd are OUT OF THERE!!

We all need to push this to our local papers.

Yep! They've changed their voice (not their beliefs) to fit the times. I recently heard a former Muslim compare Joseph Smith to Mohammed. Something to think about.
