A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Gosh, I know you've been anxiously awaiting the March Calendar of Special Events, and especially interested in knowing what we're celebrating today. (Stay tuned - that's coming up right after the calendar.) : )

I don't know who designated these 'holidays' - I am only presenting them as I found them at www.maineiac.com - who knows where they got them!

March Holidays

From
"In the month of March, we celebrate the big one for the Irish but, of course, everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day! However, March is not just for the wearin' o' the green..."

March is National Furniture Refinishing Month (Yippeeeeee!)
  • March 1 - National Pig Day and Peanut Butter Lover's Day (Mmmm, I LOVE peanut butter!)
  • March 2 - Old Stuff Day (I have a LOT of that!)
  • March 3 - I Want You To Be Happy Day, Peach Blossom Day and National Anthem Day*
  • March 4 - Holy Experiment Day (What kind of experiments are "Holy" ???)
  • March 5 - Multiple Personalities Day (I won't be celebrating this one but my other selves will be...)
  • March 6 - National Frozen Food Day (Oh boy!)
  • March 7 - National Crown Roast Of Pork Day (Huh?)
  • March 8 - Be Nasty Day (Ooooh, I LIKE this one!)
  • March 9 - Panic Day (Just one day for this?)
  • March 10 - Festival Of Life In The Cracks Day (Just where IS life in "the cracks" ???)
  • March 11 - Johnny Appleseed Day and Worship of Tools Day (And how, exactly, does one worship tools? Nevermind, I don't really want to know!)
  • March 12 - Alfred Hitchcock Day (This is cool!)
  • March 13 - Jewel Day (Maybe I'll get some fancy-schmancy ring with a beautiful jewel on it from my boyfriend today...Nah!)
  • March 14 - National Potato Chip Day (OhhhKAY!)
  • March 15 - Buzzard's Day and Everything You Think Is Wrong Day (What if we think we want to celebrate Buzzard's Day? Are we wrong??)
  • March 16 - Everything You Do Is Right Day (I know some people who celebrate this one EVERY day!!)
  • March 17 - Submarine Day and, of course, St. Patrick's Day!
  • March 18 - Supreme Sacrifice Day (This sounds kinda cool.)
  • March 19- Poultry Day (Yippee Skippee!)
  • March 20 - Proposal Day (Which goes well with "Jewel Day" on the 13th) and Festival Of Extraterrestrial Abductions Day ("Festival" ???)
  • March 21 - Fragrance Day (Okay, so I didn't get the ring on the 13th, but a nice bottle of cologne would be nice!)
  • March 22 - National Goof-off Day (I REALLY like this one! Do you think it's a paid holiday from work?)
  • March 23 - National Organize Your Home Office Day and National Chip and Dip Day(What's with the chips this month?)
  • March 24 - National Chocolate Covered Raisins Day (Mmmm!)
  • March 25 - Pecan Day and Waffle Day (MMMM!)
  • March 26 - Spinach Festival Day and Make Up Your Own Holiday Day (This one's been celebrated a LOT!)
  • March 27 - National "Joe" Day* (My dad, Joe, will like this one!)
  • March 28 - Something On A Stick Day (Anything???)
  • March 29 - Festival Of Smoke and Mirrors Day (???)
  • March 30 - I Am In Control Day (My other selves have March 5, so this one's for me!)
  • March 31 - Bunsen Burner Day (Why???) and National Clams On The Half Shell Day (WHY???)

* National "Joe" Day - March 27 - Those who hate their name have the right to have everyone they know call them "Joe" on this day.

* National Anthem Day - March 3 - On this day in 1931, President Hoover signed a bill making the Star Spangled Banner our National Anthem. In case you don't know all the words...

Oh say can you see,
By the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed
At the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad strips and bright stars,
Through the parilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched
Were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare,
The bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night
That our flag was still there.
Oh say does that Star Spangled
Banner yet wave,
O'er the land of the free
And the home of the brave?

"(Just in case you're wondering, I didn't have to look up the lyrics, good American that I am...but don't ask me to sing the next three verses!)"

Old stuff? I love old stuff. I have a lot of old stuff....old house, old furniture, old pictures, old dishes, old clothes, old shoes, old habits....

Searching for just the right stuff for today, I asked the other sistahs if they would share some of their old stuff with us. Imagine my surprise when, one by one, each of them said they still have all their old prom dresses from high school! Bingo! We had the perfect Old Stuff for today's thread:
"What I Wore to My Senior Prom"

Thank you, Finest FRiends, for being a part of our FR Family, and for your daily participation and contributions.  Whether our theme for the day is silly, sweet, or serious, it is you that makes it fun!

THIS WEEK'S THREADS

03-01-04 Military Monday

Opinions by our own 'King of Ping'
The guy's good, folks!
Thanks, Mixer!

1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar.
2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up.
3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit.
4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it.
5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me a FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer

Texas? Texas? Where is that? Oh, I know - it's that little suburb of South Carolina. It's almost as purty as here!

Take two aspirin and hide behind the "in" box!

LOL (((((((dixie)))))))

Believe me, I'm trying to make myself as "miniscule" as possible. Luckily my trainees are testing today so I can wander over to the Finest and check things out from time to time.

Have a great Tuesday!

Oh, I just loved trainees. They came in handy to do all the scut work and amazingly enough I had time to myself for the real work and would go home feeling like I accomplished something!

My trainees are being trained for the corporation I work for and as such will not be at my disposal. I "release" them back out to their supervisors once they have completed my two-week course. It's interesting to watch them "grow" over the two weeks that I have them, then I feel like a mother bird kicking them out of the nest when they are through. :-)

The people that I trained usually went to others within a week or two after I finished with them. Luckily the individual I worked for believed in training from the ground up, so to speak.

No matter what position you were hired for, you trained in each position in your department so that if anyone were out, you would not have down time in any aspect of your department.

I firmly believe in cross-training, too, and we do that to a degree. There are two prime positions that we hire for and during the two weeks that I have them, we touch on aspects of both positions. That way each one will have a healthy respect, if not some working understanding, for what the other does.

LOL! Little suburb! As far as almost as purty....parts of it are - many parts aren't so purty, but that's one of the good things about Texas - it's so big, there's a climate and scenery for most everyone. :)

I see your trying to get back in my good graces, aren't you?

It won't work! I'm still taking back my gift and might even give it to dixie, but I'm not making any promises!
