A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Gosh, I know you've been anxiously awaiting the March Calendar of Special Events, and especially interested in knowing what we're celebrating today. (Stay tuned - that's coming up right after the calendar.) : )
I don't know who designated these 'holidays' - I am only presenting them as I found them at www.maineiac.com - who knows where they got them!
March Holidays
From
"In the month of March, we celebrate the big one for the Irish but, of course, everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day! However, March is not just for the wearin' o' the green..."
March is National Furniture Refinishing Month (Yippeeeeee!)
- March 1 - National Pig Day and Peanut Butter Lover's Day (Mmmm, I LOVE peanut butter!)
- March 2 - Old Stuff Day (I have a LOT of that!)
- March 3 - I Want You To Be Happy Day, Peach Blossom Day and National Anthem Day*
- March 4 - Holy Experiment Day (What kind of experiments are "Holy" ???)

- March 9 - Panic Day (Just one day for this?)
- March 10 - Festival Of Life In The Cracks Day (Just where IS life in "the cracks" ???)
- March 11 - Johnny Appleseed Day and Worship of Tools Day (And how, exactly, does one worship tools? Nevermind, I don't really want to know!)
- March 12 - Alfred Hitchcock Day (This is cool!)
- March 13 - Jewel Day (Maybe I'll get some fancy-schmancy ring with a beautiful jewel on it from my boyfriend today...Nah!)
- March 14 - National Potato Chip Day (OhhhKAY!)
- March 15 - Buzzard's Day and Everything You Think Is Wrong Day (What if we think we want to celebrate Buzzard's Day? Are we wrong??)
- March 16 - Everything You Do Is Right Day (I know some people who celebrate this one EVERY day!!)
- March 17 - Submarine Day and, of course, St. Patrick's Day!
- March 18 - Supreme Sacrifice Day (This sounds kinda cool.)
- March 19- Poultry Day (Yippee Skippee!)
- March 20 - Proposal Day (Which goes well with "Jewel Day" on the 13th) and Festival Of Extraterrestrial Abductions Day ("Festival" ???)
- March 21 - Fragrance Day (Okay, so I didn't get the ring on the 13th, but a nice bottle of cologne would be nice!)
- March 22 - National Goof-off Day (I REALLY like this one! Do you think it's a paid holiday from work?)
- March 23 - National Organize Your Home Office Day and National Chip and Dip Day(What's with the chips this month?)
- March 24 - National Chocolate Covered Raisins Day (Mmmm!)
- March 25 - Pecan Day and Waffle Day (MMMM!)
- March 26 - Spinach Festival Day and Make Up Your Own Holiday Day (This one's been celebrated a LOT!)
- March 27 - National "Joe" Day* (My dad, Joe, will like this one!)
- March 28 - Something On A Stick Day (Anything???)
- March 29 - Festival Of Smoke and Mirrors Day (???)
- March 30 - I Am In Control Day (My other selves have March 5, so this one's for me!)
- March 31 - Bunsen Burner Day (Why???) and National Clams On The Half Shell Day (WHY???)
* National "Joe" Day - March 27 - Those who hate their name have the right to have everyone they know call them "Joe" on this day.
* National Anthem Day - March 3 - On this day in 1931, President Hoover signed a bill making the Star Spangled Banner our National Anthem. In case you don't know all the words...
Oh say can you see, By the dawn's early light, What so proudly we hailed At the twilight's last gleaming? Whose broad strips and bright stars, Through the parilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watched Were so gallantly streaming? And the rockets' red glare, The bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night That our flag was still there. Oh say does that Star Spangled Banner yet wave, O'er the land of the free And the home of the brave?

Old stuff? I love old stuff. I have a lot of old stuff....old house, old furniture, old pictures, old dishes, old clothes, old shoes, old habits....
Searching for just the right stuff for today, I asked the other sistahs if they would share some of their old stuff with us. Imagine my surprise when, one by one, each of them said they still have all their old prom dresses from high school! Bingo! We had the perfect Old Stuff for today's thread:
"What I Wore to My Senior Prom"
Left to Right: Billie, Mama_Bear, Dansangel, Dutchess, Aquamarine
Thank you, Finest FRiends, for being a part of our FR Family, and for your daily participation and contributions. Whether our theme for the day is silly, sweet, or serious, it is you that makes it fun!

Thanks, Mixer!
1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar. 2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up. 3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit. 4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it. 5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me a FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer

Should have known Colleen would come through...:))
Thank you so much!
Waded through 23 pages of Google to no avail.
So many of today's so-called comedy shows leave a lot to be desired; especially the family sitcoms that seem to be 'same-same' with different sets of characters insulting one another.
The old stars - Lucille Ball - Carol - Imogene Coca, etc. came up with marvelous spoofs!

You're Welcome, Maggie. Yes, that was a tough one to find. Was happy when it finally showed up :-)

They certainly did! So funny and so innocent. I am thankful for reruns, watch them more than any of the 'new' shows on TV.

Isn't it a shame the present younger generation doesn't have the kind of comedy she presented? Yep!

We still have the old computer downstairs Billie but it's not hooked up to a phone line yet so I'm not able access the Internet down there yet.
Hubby got the "bridge connection" installed in order to get the scanner to work on XP but seems like he said PD still wasn't accessible. I don't usually take care of the technical end of computers Dutchess, so can't tell you too much about converting over. If you have any specific questions I'll try to get the answers from the "expert".

Thank you again, EMB, for the pictures and captions on today's thread - they are always welcome (even on a 'silly' theme) :)
Mixer, so very nice to see you were here! Wish you could come around more often!
Colleen, again I missed you when you were here, but how thoughtful you always are - thanks for finding that pic of Carol Burnett as Ms OHara in the drapes!

Just returned home from election headquarters...my candidate for family court judge lost by 320 votes....We were ahead halfway through and then it was touch and go the second half....This was her first try (she is my husbands chief assistant prosector)...her opponent's third plus he has been the chair of the local republican party for years... So I'm proud...we worked very very hard, lots of door to door, speaking etc, very grass roots.... And...lots of crying tonight.... BUT tomorrow is a new day.
