Conservatives Launch Effort to Recall California Attorney General

(CNSNews.com) - Foes of same-sex "marriage"are launching an effort to recall California Attorney General Bill Lockyer.

U.S. Senate candidate Howard Kaloogian - who previously served as chairman of the Recall Gray Davis Committee - said that he will serve Lockyer with a "Notice of Intent to Recall" on Monday.

"Californians deserve to have an attorney general who will fight to uphold their laws and respect the will of the people," Kaloogian said in a press release.

"Based on his history on this issue and his tepid response so far to the outrageous conduct of Mayor Newsom in San Francisco, the public should have little confidence that Lockyer will vigorously defend the laws in California on marriage."

Lockyer's opponents say his actions prove he is unwilling to be a champion for the people of California, who four years ago passed Proposition 22, defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

Prop 22 passed in 52 of California's 58 counties, with more than 61 percent of the vote.

Kaloogian is upset that Lockyer's filing with the California State Supreme Court on Friday did not assert the constitutionality of California's law. In fact, said Kaloogian, Lockyer did not mention the constitutionality of Proposition 22 in his filing with the court.

Instead, Lockyer asked the courts to decide one way or the other on the legality of same-sex "marriages."

Kaloogian Lockyer's approach compares unfavorably with that of New Mexico Attorney General Patricia Madrid, also a Democrat, who personally ordered New Mexico officials to stop issuing marriage licenses to homosexuals. Madrid even sent in police to back up her order, if necessary.

"By contrast, said Kaloogian, "Bill Lockyer has shown clear reluctance to defend California's family code laws, which make the definition of marriage completely clear.

Kaloogian said the goal of the recall effort is not to oust Lockyer from office. "The goal is to get Lockyer to enforce the law," he said. "If holding his feet to the recall fire is the only way to get him to do his job, I am prepared to do it with overwhelming support of

Californians" said Kaloogian.

Kaloogian and other disappointed conservatives believe Lockyer is allowing his personal support for same-sex "marriages" to interfere with his support for California law.

"When he was in the state Senate, Bill Lockyer maneuvered to kill the legislation that defined marriage as the union only between a man and a woman. That's why the voters were forced to write and pass Proposition 22," Kaloogian noted.

Now Bill Lockyer has made it clear that he is unwilling to defend the voters' will. Until he does, we will keep him on notice that he will lose his job if he continues his dereliction of duty," said Kaloogian.

This is the same attorney general who went and supported the Safeway grocery workers on their picket line. (per Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal)

I think most Californians are not going to go for another recall so quickly. Haven't we got enought to deal with?

The problem with guys like Kaloogian is they get a taste of the power and think THEY were the center of the universe in terms of the recall. They were a small spark, but the moons and stars were lined up just right in order for it to be successful. With this KOOKISH effort, he's just going to discredit the small roll he played.

In other news, Clemenza starts initiative to kick California out of the union and send Arnold "The Lech" Schwarzenegger back to Austria.

Put up a wall along the Sierra Nevada. I'm afraid its too late, however.
