February 29, 2004 -- Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ" has become such a huge phenomenon so fast that campaign analysts are starting to ponder political fallout on the 2004 election - and some Democrats have got the jitters. "Whenever religion becomes a central topic of discussion, Democrats don't do so well, and now it's really out there," said a Democratic activist, who thinks the film links into concern on gay marriage and even Janet Jackson's breast flash.

Bill has stated it on his show many times. He always mentions it when he has an interview with Mel. The book has also just be re-released in paperback form. The book has a 1999 copyright. I read it before I knew who Bill was, or had made the connection. There may be something on Bill's website about it, but I never go there.

Also, with the movie out now the DVD will be out in the fall, I presume. So If I was a democrat I would not be too sure that the film will have no impact.

I read that he was born in the USA and later his father moved the family to Australia.

Birthdate: January 3

Interesting. Two other men I admire very much share that same birth date...J.R.R. Tolkein and my dad.

Really interesting ... my dad has the same burthdate too.

Is there concern about an increase in anti-Mexicanism with the upcoming release of the "Alamo"?
It is a much a part of the American psyche, especially among those in the American Southwest.
How will the Mexicans be represented? With burros and sombreros taking siestas? Will they be portrayed as crossing national borders in order to make a better life? Will Santa Anna be portrayed as the "morally confused" leader who acts as his responsibility dictates?
These are serious questions and I, for one, don't wish to be accused of inflamming anti-Mexican sentiments.

"it will be come and gone in terms of public consciousness"

But, hopefully, it will not be gone in terms of an awakening of conscience.

Mel has bought the movie rights to Bill O'Reilly's book "Those Who Trespass". (murder in Journalistic/TV world)

thank you...didn't know that.
LOVE your tag, btw! It says so much.

"Whenever religion becomes a central topic of discussion, Democrats don't do so well, and now it's really out there," said a Democratic activist, who thinks the film links into concern on gay marriage and even Janet Jackson's breast flash.

Now we know what the real reasons behind their "too-much-violence-anti-Semitic" comments are.

Isn't that the weirdest story??? I don't believe they still have the film from those old Jeopardy shows with Art Fleming, but wouldn't that be a kick to see it????

Father: Hutton Gibson, railroad brakeman; leading figure in conservative Catholic splinter group The Alliance for Catholic Traditions; won $25,000 on the Art Fleming-hosted Jeopardy in 1968

Mother: Ann Gibson; died December 1990; born in Australia

Following a victory on the Jeopardy! game show, Gibson moved his family to Australia in 1968 in protest of the Vietnam War and because he believed that changes in American society were immoral

The Democratic strategist also noted that the movie offers a Catholic perspective, and Kerry is Catholic.

If Kerry is a Catholic, then I am a Martian. To wit: being Catholic presumes agreement with Catholic teaching. Heinzman flunks on that.
