Gay Marriage a state issue? Then why not polygamy in Utah?

If we should truly leave the definition of marriage to the states to define, then why was Utah forced to outlaw polygamy when it joined the Union? If we are now going to permit marriages between homosexuals, then why couldn't Utah re-codify polygamy?
If marriage is merely a "partnership" between adults who love each other, who says a partnership has to be limited to two people. After all, the law has long recognized that business partnerships could contain any number of partners.

With all due respect, pedophilia and bestiality I don't think would be considered legal equivalents to gay marriage. Children and animals can't give consent. That's the ideas behind statutory rape. I am not sure what veggisexualism is though.

Good point. President Bush is right.

Exactly! In fact, hasn't someone in Utah already filed suit on this point?
Have I missed something or has this point not been pointed out in the media?

With all due respect, pedophilia and bestiality I don't think would be considered legal equivalents to gay marriage. Children and animals can't give consent. The point is, homosexuality used to be considered an abomination. Now much of the population accepts it. What is to prevent an erosion of the age of consent for kids? And someone else will say that if we have the right to kill an animal for meat, what laws can stop someone using an animal for sex?
I am not sure what veggisexualism is though.
Think Boy George in the produce section.

Why would anyone WANT more than one wife anyway? I can't even handle one!

I think that Utah gave up polygamy before joining the Union, but don't quote me on it. I'll have to re-read Utah history.
I'm afraid that it was more of a political negotiation than a constitutional decision.

Then why not polygamy in Utah? Can't. The homosexual on FOX this morning said polygamy and incest are "immoral" and "illegal."
(I kid you not!)

I know couple of these bigamists. They men are creepy and the women are very , very strange. I guess it appeals to people who don't find themselves fitting in with society, so they start their own fantasy society in their own home.

Here is my thought. Our position on gay marriage is going nowhwere. I watched a woman on Fox this morning try to use this polygamy argument again and again.
Why are we using all these "other examples?" Because no one has the guts to say that gay marriage is wrong, or that gay couples are abnormal in some way, or that they just don't deserve the sanctity of marriage. And as long as the politicians are afraid to directly stand up to the gay activists and in effect be "mean" to them by saying "no," this issue is dead.
The issue isn't polygamy or bestiality or incest marriages. Oh sure, they''l try to legitimize those things later too. But if you don't have the nerve to say there is something wrong, a direct social detriment from gay marriage, you're sunk.
In my opinion this issue was lost when courts permitted millions of gays to adopt children. They didn't want to be "mean" and deny them parenthood. So in the end they won't be denied marriage either. Or something just like it.
