NRA Director Sen. Larry Craig's Ammunition Ban Amendment
KeepAndBearArms.com ^ | February 26, 2004 | Angel Shamaya

Posted on 02/26/2004 11:15:11 PM PST by TERMINATTOR

While National Rifle Association officials have been denying that they've been orchestrating a sellout in the U.S. Senate, Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID) -- an NRA Director -- has been working on an ammunition ban. On the Senate floor today, he introduced, discussed, defended and tried to justify the "Craig/Frist" amendment. This amendment, said Craig, is needed "to strengthen current armor piercing ammunition law." NRA's point-man in the U.S. Senate says that this is "what the law enforcement community needs."

"We don't want to wipe out the hunting and sporting ammunition," said Craig. The "sporting purpose" test was used before -- as justification for firearm rights infringements via the 1938 Nazi Weapons Law and later copied nearly verbatim in the U.S. Gun Control Act of 1968.

"Let's send a message that armor piercing ammunition is flat off limits," said Sen. Craig.

The NRA Director went on to support strong enforcement of his proposed ammunition ban, using phrases like "prison for life."

The Second Amendment does not enumerate the right of the people to keep and bear "sporting" arms. Banning any arms, or their ammunition, is clearly off limits to Congress. A longtime Director of the National Rifle Association ought to know that. Instead, he's supporting an ammo ban -- based on the infamous Nazi "sporting purpose" text -- on the floor of the U.S. Senate.

Some might suggest that it doesn't matter what gets said on the Senate floor -- that what matters is what gets signed into law. People who believe that ought to consider the dangers here. Once a "pro gun" congressman publicly expresses support for gun control -- ammunition control is indeed gun control -- he empowers the enemy and emboldens future attempts to whittle away our rights.

The truth about civilian possession of "armor piercing ammunition" is immutable, immovable, unchanging. If government employees can deploy AP ammo against the people, denying that same ammunition to the people is directly contradictory to the meaning, purpose and intent of the Second Amendment: a balance of power.

The excuse for banning AP ammo -- "to protect law enforcement employees" -- is a dangerous road to travel. It's the same justification used to ban magazines that hold more than ten rounds. It's the same reason given to deny The People free access to machineguns. It was the same foundation upon which the Clinton/Feinstein semi-auto rifle ban was built and signed into law.

When does that excuse stop working? When the legal magazine capacity is reduced to five rounds? When all semi-auto rifles are banned? When owning a bullet-resistant vest means life imprisonment -- unless the government signs your paycheck? When all handguns are banned?

If you use "protecting law enforcement" as justification to restrict the right of the people to keep and bear arms -- if you accept that unacceptable excuse for chipping away at the Second Amendment -- then lay down your arms and go tend your garden, catch up on your reading and forget about restoring the Second Amendment. There's no end to that excuse other than total disarmament -- because even a mere single shot .22 caliber rifle manufactured before World War One can be used to injure a law enforcement officer.

Bear in mind that Sen. Craig's ammo ban amendment is being offered today, by him -- to his own bill. The Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (S1805) is written to protect gun manufacturers from the frivolous lawsuits being waged by those whose ultimate goal is to ban all firearms. The bill is being used as a rider for many other gun controls today and leading up to the final vote on Tuesday. Sen. Craig wants to amend his own bill -- with an ammunition ban -- under the guise of abiding his oath of office. He said so on C-SPAN, in plain English.

We've requested text of the Amendment (SA2625) from Senator Craig's office and through another Senator's office, as well. As soon as we have it, we will publish it.

I think you give them far too much credit for foresight and planning.

Ever hear of Carroll Quigley?

Clinton studied under him, considered him his mentor.

He wrote Tragedy & Hope

I won't ruin the suspense, other than to say that he disagrees with you. :)

PS: Quigley called this bunch of think-tanks and so forth, "The Network". He wasn't just pipe-dreaming, he describes his firsthand knowledge, evangelizing, as it were, because he considered it such a good thing for the world.

Read through the reviews on that page I linked in the last post.

To coin a phrase, I think there is a "vast left wing conspiracy" controlling much of the world.

I guess in a way I am one of those "one worlder" nuts. To be honest, I don't know any of the particulars. I haven't even read any of the books and very few articles on the subject.

In a way that gives me an advantage as I can see the whole forest without being distracted by trees.

The reason I think that is obvious. That events are being controlled is so plain a blind man could see it.

Now for the amazing revelation. It is the Devil. Satan is exerting his influence through left wing (communist) organizations. They have infiltrated nearly every facet of the organizations (or disorganizations) which control world wide thinking. These are all types of educational institutions, the media of course, and politics. And I almost forgot, most churches.

Sadly most churches today are in league with Satan. They are pushing sin rather than The Lord. Satan is their leader and not Christ. They are even in many of the true churches. For that matter, their presence is massively felt even here on FR despite efforts to keep them in check.

I once read a novel, (can't remember the name but it involved events on Crete) which stated that it was fictitious, and it was, but the way it described a group of world controllers as hiding in plain sight and making no effort to remain hidden, at least on the outside, was disturbing.

It had the ring of truth even tho it was fiction.

I sometimes find it difficult to imagine all the events of the Bible as true, but the extent of those opposing Christ is truly massive and I can only think of one reason that would be so.

" I don't want to sound like Rosie O'Donnell ......"

Too late.

"About the only thing you need armor piercing ammunition for is killing cops."

Define "armor-piercing" ammunition.

This why I have 2 Enfields, and lots o bullets..
.303 isn't the most powerful cartridge out there, but it'll get the job done without breaking the bank or your shoulder.

If you think 125 grn sp hunting ammo will poke a hole, check out some 200 grn cupronickle bullets. I got some from a friend of mine and loaded 'em up to normal powder levels. Punched right through a 4 cyl. Honda engine block from 50m and ended up stuck in the frame supporting the bumper.
Kevlar vests ain't even going to stop it, much less a "trauma" plate or the cheese-ball armor the JBTs prance around in while "protecting' us from evil...
Amazing what 100 year old bullets can do out of a 90 year old rifle.

I read her open letter to liberals about gun control and thought what was she thinking to tell them this? If she if right about what would happen if they totally banned all guns, the situation is a win for us. If they don't do gun control it is a win for us. Maybe we need the total ban, so that we can get rid of the people in power that are infringing our rights and destroying the Constitution.

Back when I was a young man, I tried boxing. I had dreams of becoming the next light-heavyweight champion of the world... Until I got some sense knocked into my head. Anyway, I learned the art of feinting with one hand while hitting with the other.

Congress knows that tactic too.

While we're all worked up over S.1805, the House has a bill in a subcommittee that can really whack us.

We all know what we'd do if they were to pass some really restrictive law, don't we? We'd go out and, in the interval between the time the law was signed and when it went into effect, we'd buy up everything in sight... Right? Well, let me direct you to H.R.2403, Title II, Sec. 201(g):

STOCKPILING- It shall be unlawful for any person to manufacture, purchase, or import a firearm product, after the date a regulation is prescribed under this Act with respect to the product and before the date the regulation takes effect, at a rate that is significantly greater than the rate at which the person manufactured, purchased, or imported the product during a base period (prescribed by the Attorney General in regulations) ending before the date the regulation is so prescribed.

Neat, ain't it? And, while it's boxed up in the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security right now, anybody want to guess how long it'll take to tack it onto some other bill that's being pushed through a conference committee?

Now you know why Washington D.C. has such stringent laws regarding firearms.

Solution: by as many new firearms as you can afford and stock up on ammo with great vigor -- and get all of your friends, neighbors, relatives, and complete strangers to do likewise.

And learn the fine arts of gunsmithing, reloading, and caching.....

I wonder who is supplying the Haitian rebels? There's a story there for an old war dog. I hope SOF has an intrepid reporter "embedded."

Hush yo' mouth. And not just SOF, either, just WAIT until you see who another news source has for an on the scene reporter, if it works out.

And if it doesn't, no biggie. BTW, did you know that you can get 300 sets of camo BDU fatigues and 12- .50 caliber cans of Garand-clipped .30 ammo into the back seats of a Cessna 337 with two reporters and a pilot? Just a coincidence.

.303 isn't the most powerful cartridge out there, but it'll get the job done without breaking the bank or your shoulder.

It did so as the standard British service rifle cartridge from 1888 to 1955, soldiering on at least a decade after that here and there in British service, and continues to this day elsewhere, still seen in the hands of police and auxiliaries in Nepal, as well as being the most common weaopon in use by the other side there.

Note though that the British went through several permutations of ammunition, and similarly, you should likely consider a couple of different possible loads to increase the versatility of your Enfields. They're likely the best buy on the current market for an individual needing a good rifle.

Who are these guys, and where are they? Guy at right looks like he "might" (can't tell) be carrying an SMLE at some kind of left-handed carry position.

I keep telling people, RiNO's are among the biggest enemies of RKBA. The Pew Trusts proved it with their political typology study in 1999 -- they polled them on the issues, and business-class Republicans don't like private ownership of firearms. Their guilty consciences demand disarmament. Alexander Hamilton was brilliant, but he was a skank on the subject of freedom and the People's liberties, and businessmen have all been the same way ever since. One of these days we're going to have to rip them a new one, just to prove we really meant it. But as long as they think they're all studs, they won't back off.

The Republican Majority in the Senate decides what will and what will not be brought to the floor for discussion, debate, and/or a vote.

If they are truly Conservative, and have any intention whatsoever of defending, upholding and protecting our Constitution, they have not only the right, but also the sworn obligation to deny any bills or amendments which are un-Constitutional from ever REACHING the floor of the Senate.

Anything less... I repeat; ANYTHING LESS IS AN ABDICATION OF THEIR SWORN DUTY, AND AMOUNTS TO TREASON AGAINST THE UNITED STATES AND OUR CONSTITUTION.

And it's our obligation to make sure that they know that. To let them know that we're watching, and paying attention.

I think the one who needs to be informed about "abdication of sworn duty" is sitting in the White House signing the globalist laws and treaties.

Just imagine the effect if he was to publiclly ridicule the electorate for sending him a Bill that is unconstitutional.

Can you imagine the mass media reaction?
