Man dies after SUV broadsides his car
UNION-TRIBUNE
February 26, 2004
LAKESIDE - A man was killed when an SUV slammed broadside into his Honda Civic that was sliding out of control through a sharp turn on Lakeside Drive on Tuesday night, the California Highway Patrol said.
Jeremiah Lachlan Mac-Lean, 23, of El Cajon died at a hospital shortly after the 9:30 p.m. accident, the Medical Examiner's Office said.
Witnesses said it appeared MacLean's car was drag-racing with another car when it crashed. The car MacLean may have been racing, a dark-colored compact, sped away after the crash, CHP Officer Brian Pennings said. Witnesses said the car pulled over and a woman ran to the crash site, but the car then sped away.

These SUVs have minds of their own, I tell you. They should all be named Christine!

Sounds more like the Civic slammed into the truck!

The SUV could just as easily have been a big rig or a motorcycle. In the latter case, the driver of the Honda would be looking at manslaughter charges, at the very least. 'Course his "stupidity at the wrong time" got him killed instead.
Did anyone else assume, as I did after reading the headline, that the SUV was at fault?

Remember the old days? Back when this headline would have been "Man dies when cars collide in drag race." It's amazing what they're doing to the SUV. Do you think the reporters are being TOLD to do this?
To: ambrose
Gee. Another car runs into the SUV and the SUV is still the culprit.

Don't take a Civic to an SUV fight.

Yup, headline should have read
"SUV saves mans life, fast-and-furious drag-racer dies"

an SUV slammed broadside into his Honda Civic that was sliding out of control through a sharp turn Er, no, the Civic slammed into the SUV, which was minding its own business at the time.
it appeared MacLean's car was drag-racing
Er, no, MacLean was drag-racing. Cars don't race, people do.
To: ambrose
Typical. Make it sound like the big bad SUV is to blame, even though the politically correct little Honda was drag racing and out of control.

I love it the way they use "after" in these headlines.
I am waiting to see one that says "Man dies BEFORE Suv broadsides his car."

We need to watch out for these SUV's. If they get together with guns, it will be mayhem.

A man was driving the Honda, but that mean old SUV is on the loose once again. Somebody ought to lock those SUV's up.

I suggest we get the names and addresses of all the people who own these dangerous weapons!
Maybe do a background check, and impose a 10 day waiting period?

I hate to be a jerk, but who cares. We would waste a lot of bandwidth if we post every accident that occurs in the US.
If your point is to show how biased the reporting is on any SUV incident, I would agree completely. Rush likes to point this out on his show. He even has a theme song for his SUV updates.

Why is this article posted in this forum - why is it newsworthy?
Just goes to show that fuel economy is not always the most important factor. Bet the guy in the SUV wasn't even hurt.
To: ambrose
The main inaccuracy in this article is calling a race between slow@$$ Honda Civic type vehicles a drag race.

...SUV broadsides his car
Were all the SUV's cannons blazing? Did the take him down the port or starboard side? Were the other SUV's in the fleet involved? These stories never have enough detail!
