Rooney Does It Again On Imus-Laughs At Crucifixion
MSNBC | 2-26-04 | Don Imus Show

Posted on 02/26/2004 5:54:35 AM PST by icwhatudo

I"m not going to spend $9 just for a few laughs"-Andy Rooney on why he won't see The Passion Of The Christ.

Andy Rooney on Imus Thursday morning to deal with controversial statements about Mel Gibson being nuts may have made things worse.

When asked by host Don Imus whether he was going to see The Passion Of The Christ, Roonet replied, "I"m not going to spend $9 just for a few laughs.

Rooney had already been talking about the hate mail he had recieved for claiming God had talked to him and told him that Pat Robertson and Mel Gibson were nuts. When questioned if he was joking, an annoyed Rooney claimed he wasn't joking and seemed rather in a foul mood. At one point he harshly said to Imus "Do you have a question or what!?!"

Imus claimed he was one of Rooneys admirers and he should take it easy. Rooney went on to explain to believe there is a God is silly just as to claim there isn't one is silly also. (Shades of John Kerry)

Yeah, I had to listen, too. What an *ss... both he and Imus. Didn't you also love Rooney's response to the gay marriage question... something like "while I have an opinion [opposing gay marriage], I am so opposed to everything those people who share my belief on this subject stand for and believe in, I can't give you my opinion." Also shades of John F'in Kerry.

I've heard suggestions that Rooney should quit... Why not take it one step further, if you catch my drift. Sorry: I vowed after seeing The Passion, yesterday, that I would try to "love my enemies" but when it comes to Dems and Commies (2 strikes against Rooney), I just can't achieve that goal.

Yes, but did you hear the God Squad (Father Tom and Rabbi Gellman) earlier? I was going to start a thread on that segment.

The rabbi defended The Passion of the Christ by saying that if one thinks this movie is antisemitic, then the Christian bible is antisemitic and that would mean that his dearest and closest friend in the world (Father Tom) is part of a religion that is antisemitic. This he will not accept. It was great radio.

Which one do you mean, Rooney or that reanimated corpse Imus?

Let's not be too hard on the old fellow. He's an old school liberal - Andy flew on quite a number of world war II european bombing raids - and probably didn't approve of Imus anymore than Gibson's movie. I like the sob. (Mr. Rooney)

Franklin Graham had it right last night (on Hannity and Google?)....Andy should retire to the shuffleboard courts of South Florida.

I looked up senile in the dictionary and this is what I found:

Etymology: Latin senilis, from sen-, senex old, old man
1 : of, relating to, exhibiting, or characteristic of old age <senile weakness>; especially : exhibiting a loss of mental faculties associated with old age
2 : approaching the end of a geological cycle of erosion
- se·nile·ly /-"nIl-lE/ adverb

You'd think an ancient geezer who's got about three grains of sand left in the hour glass would be more thoughtful.

Rooney is such a bigot. I just watched Imus interview Rooney, Imus seemed afraid to step on Rooney's toes.

He claimed that he wasn't mocking God speaking to him and then goes on to admit he doesnt believe in God.

Imus analysis lol, there it's settled he didn't mock Christians and God.

All Rooney's commentaries sound like this:

"I'm old. I'm old. Further more, I'm old. Did I mention that I'm old? I'm old."

I was NEVER a Rooney fan. In my personal opinion he is a total idiot and should have been taken off the air years ago.

"Rooney went on to explain to believe there is a God is silly just as to claim there isn't one is silly also. (Shades of John Kerry"

Rooney is using the typical intellectual dodge, he wont close the door entirely because he fears that "if" there is a God he will be in trouble.

Coward that he is, I doubt very much that on his deathbed, his dying words will be" I know there is no God". That will not happen, and Rooney knows it.

Finally a sane observation, from a rabbi, sorry I missed that segment.
