Bush need not dig deep to find ammo against Kerry By Howie Carr Recent Columns by Howie Carr Wednesday, February 25, 2004
It's about time the White House started taking John Forbes Kerry seriously, and that was a nice line the president fired off the other night about all the issues he's on both sides of, without even mentioning Liveshot by name.
But now it's time for the Bush campaign to get down to the nitty-gritty - the opposition research.
First off, has he or has he not released his full service records, the way Bush did, and if not, why not?
Driving records - don't bother, Kerry's clean. Ditto, Teresa. I'm guessing that the cops apparently do know who he is, to answer the question he most frequently asks of the hoi-polloi.
What about Kerry's recent assertion that he's a hunter, and he's not talking about his lifelong pursuit of rich, elderly widows. He claimed the good-old-boy mantle for himself in Iowa last month, and this week, in the South, you know he'll do another photo-op in a field with a shotgun. Does he have a hunting license, or an FID?
Here's another one for the boys in the backroom to check out. Let's take a hypothetical situation - just suppose some gigolo bought a very expensive pair of boots in England - how Benedict Arnold-like - and then, when they were delivered to his mansion by the U.S. Postal Service, he refused to pay the $35 customs charge. And then, a short time later, someone at his neighborhood post office got a call from the U.S. Customs Service ordering the post office to release the boy-toy's boots, duty-free.
What the Bush campaign needs to do is tailor a mail piece for everyone in America who's registered to vote. Kerry's trying to play the class-warfare card, which is as preposterous as a lecture on chastity from Bill Clinton.
Throw it back in his face. Everyone in the country who owns a boat should get the specs on the 42-foot Scaramouche his second wife's trust fund from her first husband's grandfather paid for.
Let renters know about how he ``rented'' a condo for $200 a month, and about the lobbyist who put him up, on the arm, in an $8,000-a-month apartment.
Any would-be pilot who ever paid for a flying lesson should get a nice picture of his wife's 41-foot-long ketchup-red-and-white Gulfstream. (The New York Times mentioned that one last weekend, but it was buried, deep.)
Liveshot talks the talk, but walking the walk is out of the question. You know, it's great to point out the endless flip-flops in his Senate voting record, but you'll remember his palpable phoniness a lot longer if you personally remember something he's gotten away with that you never could.
For instance, everybody who leases a car should get a mailing about Liveshot's 16-month ``lease'' of a Buick - with no payments. Every real estate agent should get a copy of the story about how he made $21,000 on a condo flip without putting any money down. Everybody with a home equity loan ought to find in his mailbox, or his e-mail, a copy of the story from the Washington Post about his $6.5-million ``mortgage'' on the Beacon Hill mansion, which there is no way in hell he could repay on his Senate salary.
Harley owners need to know that when he's not running for president, Kerry's a Ducati man.
Everybody who throws a finn in the collection plate every Sunday should know how much John Kerry [related, bio] gave to charity in 1991 on a salary of $113,857 - zero. And how much he chipped in in 1995 on an income of $126,179 - again, zero.
Voters need to understand that when Kerry says ``Bring It On!'' he's talking about free cars, free apartments and ever-richer, ever-wrinklier heiresses. And Bush has more than enough money to tell them, several times over.

Sometimes a leftist will slip and let the true root of their hatred for Bush show. It usually goes along these lines: Bush was able to have a lot more choices than the rest of us because of his privileged background.
Of course, they'll excuse this privilege in any socialist politician.
Actually, in a recent Howe Carr column, Howie points out that when Kerry was asked about his utter lack of charitable contributions, Kerry explained that he had two kids in college (must have been before he married Teresa). Howie says, however, that in that same year Kerry bought a $6,400 motorcycle.
I picture him yachting away from DC at the end of his presidency, towing the White House behind him.
The White House would make an impressive trophy...blonder than any trophy wife and bigger than any silver star.
He does. Or his producer does. He's mentioned that he's found items on Free Republic a couple of times on the show.
Great article! Very good idea. Not too many people like a stuck up rich snot who can't even manage eating a hotdog. Hint, hint John...Philly Cheesteaks do not contain Brie. Lol, they could be entitled, "Do You Know Who I Am"?
A fact already obvious in back in 1971, as noted by Doonesbury.
