Me, flame away? Of course not! I've accepted the fact that some people just make more mistakes than others and there's not much that can be done about it. :-)

ROFL! You are such a conundrum.....

:-)

Thank you both. Dansy, for this beautiful thread today, and .45man for your post expressing your thoughts and feelings about this movie. I probably won't be seeing it any time soon, but I will eventually and I am braced for an emotional experience and a reawakening of my faith.

And, Dansy, your pledge graphic is beautiful - so fitting for today.

Good morning, sistahs and friends.

Flawless? Hardly.....I've already bared my soul to Skinny dood. :-)

I had to read the opening post for the third time to 'look' for whatever error you said you made, and then discovered it wasn't there, but in your welcome comment. :)

I stand by my original comment! :)

This movie has a POINT to the violence. And it has a message so much larger than just that aspect.

Precisely. People need to get beyond the hype about the violence and the anti-semitism and just take this at face value. The message is strong and clear about what Christ endured for us for our eternal salvation because of His boundless love for all of us. Period.

LOL, conundrum indeed!

"I've accepted the fact that . . . ."

Maybe he's read the good book and realizes we're all imperfect.

I'm going to see the movie as soon as I can. And I think it's insulting to my humanity and religion to suggest this movie will make me be or feel anti-Semetic. God's Chosen, with whom He holds the Old Covenant, have a special place in all Christian hearts.

Thank you ((((((Salvation)))))))

What is beautiful is what our Savior did for us.

That message is what the REAL issue is for many nay-sayers IMO. The objection to the violence is a convenient cover.

Powerful Presentation dansy and .45Man. Thank You.

THE HAMMER

by Ray Boltz and Steve Millikan

I was in the crowd the day that Jesus died

And as He hung upon that cross, His mother cried

I saw the crown of thorns He wore

The stripes on His back

The water and the blood ran out

And then the sky turned black

My mind was filled with anger

My heart filled with shame

The man brought only healing

Well who could bring Him pain

Why does it seem the strong

They always victimize the weak

And suddenly I found myself

Standing to my feet

And I cried

Who nailed Him there?

This Child of peace and mercy

Who nailed Him there?

Come and face me like a man

Who nailed Him there?

And the crowd began to mock me

I cried Oh my God I just don't understand

Then I turned and saw the hammer

In my hand.

I am just a Roman soldier

An ordinary man

I love my wife and children

I do the best I can

But how could I have killed Him

There must be someone else

I got to find an answer

I can't blame myself

I nailed Him there

This Child of peace and mercy

I nailed Him there

I am the guilty man

I nailed Him there

With my sins and my transgressions

I cried Oh my God, now I understand

When I looked down and saw the hammer

IN MY HAND

Mark Twain once said it wasn't the parts of the bible he didn't understand that bothered him, it was the parts he did. If the critics of this firm figure out whey it bothers them, they will discover the grace within their own heart.

Thank you for posting this thread. I will be seeing the movie as soon as I can--it's here but so far all of the shows are sold out. A man in our area bought out an entire 20 screen theater (4500 seats) and gave away the tickets which were snatched up almost overnight. He got thousands of requests from others. Amazing how you can't buy a seat to a movie "nobody will go see"!!

I hope many hearts will be turned to the Lord as on the Day of Pentecost: "'Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.' Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, 'Men and bretheren, what shall we do?' Then Peter said to them, 'Repent, and let everyone of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins; and you shall receive the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.'" Acts 2:36-39

I humbly thank you, Miss Dansy.

The Hollywood libs simply hate this movie...the idea of it, the fact of it.

Yet, they nominate Tarantino's Kill Bill for an Oscar. Maybe they're complainng because only one man dies in Mel's film, rather many score being butchered by a glamorous babe in tights.

It's curious...and curiouser.

Their futile race to avoid any seeming of conscience is a show all itself.

Mel Gibson gets a huge Atta-boy for this one.

In the earlier movies about Jesus, beautiful, sanitized, Westernized as they were, the fact of His suffereing still moved me.

I remember my brother and sister and I crying our eyes out watching King of Kings in the theater when it was released 40 something years ago.

I hope to see The Passion next week...my loins are girded but my heart will be open, and I know I'll be torn down to the foundations of who I think I am.

Makes me tremble.

...

Regards and blessings to all our Hostesses and all my dear friends and neighbors here at the Finest coffee shop in Freeperville, on this Holy Day.

Well put.

I haven't seen the movie, but I expect I will think it's great.

Just from the photos, I'd add one thing. Historical research reveals that Christ was probably dark-skinned. Jews in that part of the world at that time were. This actor is not. Frankly, if anyone were going to criticize the movie as not PC, I would think that would be the legitimate grounds. Trivial grounds to be sure, in the sense that Christ is all people and is in all humans. But to criticize the movie because of the role of non-believing Jews -- well, that's silly, Christ himself was a Jew.

Now, I do understand, as the Anti-Defamation League notes, that in the past passion plays were cynically used by anti-Semites. But that doesn't mean this movie is anti-Semite or that this is Mel Gibson's motive! That's like saying that the Bible itself is anti-Semetic. Now, I do have a work colleague who is Jewish who does take this position. I find *that* troubling and intolerant.

My aunt was married to a very intelligent man who was agnostic.

I can relate to that, at one time I suppose I was agnostic. (when I was young)

Now, I am more of a Deist, or a church of one, so to speak.

There has always been something about the Sunday church routine that bothered me. It is more the fact that people get religion on Sunday then go home and sin some more.

It just bothers me.

Also the fact that the powers in the church are constantly doing and supporting liberal causes that I can not support or contribute to.

Considering this and that I am not a very social person, the organized church makes me uncomfortable, and I truly tried many of them years ago.

My response when asked to go to church was always, "do I have to?"

It seems I have never gotten over that.(This is probably more than you want to know, but what the heck)

Mel said in interviews that when scholars and experts disagreed on these issues and many others, that he did what he felt was best for the film and viewed it as he was taught.

That is why things like the placement of the nails for crucification and other things may not jive with all current thinking, but it does comply with at least one of them.

Beautiful opening Dansy about such an important subject! I'm so thrilled that Mel Gibson had the courage to make this movie. It gives me hope that society can turn away from the destructive direction that it's been going in.
We'll probably wait a few weeks before we go to see it, have already been crying too much this week over the loss of a loved one.

This is a movie that one must see with Open Heart, Mind, and Soul. Take what is given, and in return for this gift, pass it on to every one that you meet not just for the next few days but forever.

GOD BLESS
