3 Escape From SUV On Railroad Tracks
POSTED: 9:55 pm EST February 24, 2004
WEST BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Three people barely escaped with their lives on a set of railroad tracks Tuesday night, News Channel 10 reported.
Their sport utility vehicle apparently got stuck just as it was crossing the tracks, authorities said.
With a commuter train heading right for them, the three jumped out of the vehicle.
Police are charging two passengers from Taunton with abandoning their vehicle. They are still looking for the driver.

Another out of control SUV on a crime spree. I've got my Ford Explorer handcuffed to the porch rail.

How can this be? SUV's can go anywhere and can never get stuck. I know it's true because I saw it in a TV commercial.

So jumping out of a vehicle that's about to be hit by a train is a criminal offense?According to the TV news I watched last night, they were riding off road and along the tracks...it wasn't a matter of just crossing the road. Then, the police had to find them.
Leaving the scene of an accident and the illegal driving are not good, when everyone's worried about if there are people in the SUV that a train just demolished.

So jumping out of a vehicle that's about to be hit by a train is a criminal offense? In the MA Reich, anything that you do to preserve your life health or property other than call 911 is a crime.

Has there ever been a study confirming which make of SUV is the most hardened criminal? I'd really like to know before I go shopping for my next one.

So jumping out of a vehicle that's about to be hit by a train is a criminal offense? Interesting exam question. While you could claim that your act is legally-privileged under the doctrine of necessity, in order to avoid the charge of abandonment you'd have to establish that you had no choice but to drive along the tracks.
