Good news. I hope he talks to the Congress-critters soon about fine-tuning the amendment. We shouldn't allow civil unions for gays either - period.

ARGH! I wish the media would quit calling this an ammendment to "ban" gay marriage. Gay weddings will be legal either way, as they should be in any society with religious liberty.

What will be different is that if this amendment is passed, homosexuals will not be able to use the physical force of government to force others to recognize the moral legitimacy of their relationships.

He needs to come out with his own wording for the amendment. That will make him look proactive and not reactive.

About time. He should have gone to San Francisco and annoucned his support for it on the court house steps. That would have really ticked off the liberals.

This man doesn't put his finger to the wind, and he takes political chances based on his convictions. I don't know if this will hurt or help him - and, I believe that he doesn't know, either - but, he is following what he believes is right.

Some will argue that the constitution shouldn't be amended willy-nilly, and will play this theme to the American voters. However, the Constitution has been amended on avg. every 10 years. It is not easy to change, but it is not in stone.

Bush to back constitutional amendment banning gay marriage

Associated Press

WASHINGTON - President Bush will back a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.

"The president will announce his support for a constitutional amendment to protect the sanctity of marriage,"  said White House spokesman Scott McClellan.

"He has always strongly believed that marriage is a sacred institution between a man and a woman,"  McClellan said.

He said the president wants to end "growing confusion" that has arisen from court decisions in Massachusetts, and San Francisco's permitting more than 3,000 same sex unions.

Bush is to make the announcement in the White House Roosevelt Room at 10:45 a.m. EST.

More details to come.

Marriage defined as between a man and a woman.

Activist judges -- and wayward mayors -- take heed!

Homosexual Agenda Ping -

Bush steps up to the plate.

I wish they wouldn't call it Gay Marriage. It's not like the Gay Nineties.

Let me know if anyone wants on/off this list.

It's been apparent he backs it to those with eyes to see and ears to hear...

Now he'll spell it out for those who didn't "get it".

We don't need to amend the Constitution. We need to be impeaching judges.

This is good. Now if we could only get Bush to ban illegal immigration, call for the repeal of "campaign finance reform", reverse his position to support the Clinton gun ban, reverse his decision to increase funding for the National Endowment for the Arts, put the brakes on his massive spending proposals, etc......
