February 24, 2004 -- WASHINGTON - The Pentagon has dispatched the elite commando force that hunted down Saddam Hussein to Afghanistan for a new operation aimed at getting Osama bin Laden, officials said yesterday. Military sources confirmed that members of the shadowy Task Force 121, the unit that conducted the high-tech search for Saddam and his henchmen, have recently begun operating in the remote mountainous region along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border where bin Laden and key al Qaeda and Taliban fugitives are believed to be hiding. The Task Force is made up of highly trained Delta and SEAL commandos, as well as CIA paramilitary operators. It operates outside normal military channels.

Does everyone know a person with a ham radio? We have ham operators here in our community that participate in our emergency ops plan. Maybe we could set something up with a relay in case of internet or electrical problems. We could have their numbers posted for contact in case of an emegency.

I am a ham radio operator. HF and VHF. Tech-Plus. I've got VHF and HF equipment and know morse code. [Texas] All of my stuff can operate from my car battery if the power goes out. There is another freeper here that is also a ham....

I recall the pictures of the Falls on one of those jihad sites- the picture was taken from the Canadian side... I'm also wondering if bride and groom, cake and candles- refer to particular weapons. (For example- cake could mean suitcase nuke; candles could mean ignition.)

Did you all notice that they all relate to things related to weddings, like Niagra Falls, which was once known as the "Honeymoon Capital of the World."

A while back on the HomelandSecurityUS website they posted some jihadi ramblings about an attack on "the building of the Valentine Lovers." The staff believed this was referring to the Empire State Bldg. I did a little research, and sure enough every Valentine's Day there are couples that get married at the Empire State Building. Valentine's Day is over, of course, but in this context I think they were just describing the building.

Many of the posters there discuss military threats- particularly threats from the former Soviet Union. For example, during the Russian exercise several missiles failed. They question whether the missiles were, in fact, set up to fail- so as to deceive us into thinking Russia is weak.

My turn to go way, way out on the tinfoil limb: Suppose we are the ones who made the missiles fail? Russia wants to show the world that she still has teeth, and we kind of snicker, and say, "Teeth that are twenty years old... watch this." The next thing you know we're zapping out their satellite communications systems and suddenly, the damn missiles don't work.

Did you follow the thread to see how it turned out? All is well for the guy, a hot spot just appeared under his well and he is now going to be able to use geo-thermal to heat his home :)

There was a good possibility, according to geologists he consulted, that he could find even hotter water a bit deeper, so he's drilling down another 100 feet in an attempt to tap it.

That's fine, Revel. Ignore me. I just feel really foolish about taking Daleel so seriously in the past. You're right - you never know what he has access to, but in my opinion he just spouts off about what he is piecing together in the forums, and he likes the attention.

I don't think that's very far out on the tinfoil limb. As I remember it, the first reports of the failure of the launches were that a signal was blocked by a satellite, but they didn't say WHOSE satellite.

The next thing you know, Russia is saying they never launched a missile, so there was no malfunction.

Just saving face on faulty technology or covering up that they got ZOTTED?

Follow that with the braggadocios remarks on their successful launch the following day of a missile that "could penetrate ANY missile defense system"

I like thinking that we may have sent them a not so subtle message ;)
