Very strange location for an earthquake, let alone a 6.5.

It's not that weird. Remember that Lisbon was once destroyed by an earthquake. It became an event in Voltaire's "Candide."
To: Lokibob
Musta been one hell of a quake: I felt it here in New England a couple hours ago. Just a mind tremblor by the time it got here.

If I remember correctly, a fault line runs right through the Strait of Gibraltar. Also, much of the Med is very seismically active with dozens of volcanoes and regular earthquakes.

The straits got just a little wider today. The trend is the other way, towards shuting out the Atlantic and the Med to evaporate, like it once did a long time ago.
