THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST.. (It's here!!).. Live thread!

THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST.. (A HIT OR A MISS?).. Live thread!

Contrary to popular media pronouncements, the first of the commercial showing of this long awaited, landmark, and controversial film has already debuted and the misconceptions that the fate of this endeavor hangs in the balance.. That is HOGWASH.. The Passion of the Christ is on the brink of a record breaking opening, in spite of the limited available screens, and the all out, and outragous efforts on the part of the National Media's near unanimous rejection, and the Hollywood establishment roadblocks to stymie this motion picture and it's brilliant and courageous director/producer..

I just receive a call from friends that attended a church sponsored midday showing of the movie with more than 850 of their fellow flock. The collective response was "it was sobering and breathtaking, and they existed with a profound feeling of moral inadequacy".

I toyed with the idea of accepting an invitation to book a private showing at a local theater for this weekend, however after calling a few local churches to help fill the seats I discovered that all (I call 12) of the parishes and neighborhood churches had already secured their own private dates with sellout crowds.. Every one of them had sold the seats within a day of their announcements... I just may book a threater in three weeks for all of my friends and family, that wish to watch it again, and again..

In general conversation, I've simply asked several people across the country "Are you going to the movie this week?" They all knew what I meant - and they all were planning on going. Mel's going to have a hit on his hands, and I hope all his detractors are fit to be tied!

Tell that to the Catholic leadership. The Catholic Church had some interesting ways of torturing and burning people at the stake people for studying the Bible!(I have heard no apologies from the Vatican)

My gripe isn't against Catholics nor against Mel Gibson...just the false beliefs that they are TRICKED into believing, one day leading to doom.

I used to be Catholic too. I thank God everyday for my salvation. The problem with your post...which will probably be deleted AGAIN is that it was in the wrong place. Like I said before...you should start your own thread and we can discuss this or you can comment on what is inaccurate or what you disagree with WHEN you see the film. I plan to see it tomorrow, and I will be back here to comment. You will not find a better site that professes truth than this one. I challenge you to find a better forum to get your point across. As long as you are civil and follow the rules of the forum you can post to your heart's content. Be ready for a brutal debate here. It will be long and harsh, and the moderators will try to keep everyone in line.

Jesus was not Protestant

Jesus was not Catholic

Jesus was a Jew.. a Jew whose life was fulfilling Jewish prophecy.

His life, death (and Yes resurrection.. check out Josephus among others) is among the most documented historical set of events in history.

One can accept or not accept the veracity of history. The same with the acceptance of the faith/spiritual message. Scripture doesn't leave much room for interpretation - hmmmm( what????, then why is there disagreement??? over various facts).

But one thing the Bible is clear on is the need for unity & need for putting disputes behind getting the message of LIFE out.

Let's find common ground.

I am not of the catholic faith .. but I - as the Catholics, are Christian & I hope that Mel makes a fortune - to do with as he pleases - in our wonderful capitalistic America. IMHO The Lord will richly bless him for using his talents for so competently providing an avenue of evangelism, truth & Love.

God Bless ALL who partake in this rich experience.. whether to dispute, to satisfy curiosity, to revel in the faith or for any other reason. When God's message goes out, it does not return empty. Fight if you will.. but God ALWAYS wins.

Homer Welcomed into the Roman Catholic Church Easter Vigil, 2002.

Welcome, Homer and God Bless You! I am always in awe of adult converts, you all know so much more than "Cradle Catholics" like me!

My husband and I invited two friends to join us Sunday afternoon with out church group. I want to see it, but hate to see the brutality. I sincerely hope that the sold-out attendance all over the country makes Hollyweird reevaluate at the trash they put out. I'm not holding my breath for it to happen, though.

It was just odd. I mention it only because I don't understand it

A couple of years ago I made some neighbors mad when I put in a bee hive and they took up a petition to get my bees banned, which by law, they could not - nevertheless, in an effort to bring peace in the neighborhood I went to mediation and brought local beekeeping profesionals to try to explain why bees are nice and not dangerous and all that.

After a couple of mediation sessions it was painfully obvious that what really made most of them mad was my landscaping. I am going for the English garden effect, with lots of rose beds and peony beds and trees. They are into lawns, pristine lawns, and no trees. In other words, the argument was really about aesthetics.

It was a shock to me that they would be that angry about rose bushes, etc. I did respond in kind by ridiculing their landscaping, which I thought and think is pathetic.

Some people are just very weird about their yards. It's not at all a pleasant experience, and I sympathize.

"Free Republic is not a place for you to spew your bigoted anti-Catholic dogma. If you want to start your own web site for that, go for it"

Anti-Catholic dogma? how about a review of Catholic HISTORY? (secular and Biblical)
Weak! very weak! That's not a good way to support free expression in this "FREE REPUBLIC". Your saying "you can play in this play ground, but ONLY if you use MY Toys, or if I approve of them"
I wish for once I could find a forum that doesn't have a moderator with a weak stomach.

Really. I only pray to God. In my religion it is not allowed to pray to anyone else. Praying to a being is idolatry as it raises the thing prayed to to god-like status. Call it whatever you like. It has caused wars and bloodshed over hundreds of years and I hate it just as much as my ancestors did.

As to your silly claims about sheets and such. You have every right to discuss and promote your papist ideas on this website and I have every right to disagree. I'm only reporting the banned posts content. I stand for the right of that poster to put forth his viewpoints. As do I stand for your rights.

However your desire to sensor me and him proves your bigotry and hatred quite blatantly.

Your choice. I have in no wise stated that anyone should do differently. Someone else did and I defended their right to make the point.

PLEASE!!!!!
This is a thread about seeing a movie. The movie may be about Christ but this thread is about the movie, not a discussion on dogma.

No one is stopping you from giving your opinion but it belongs in the Religion Forum and not here.

Let us enjoy talking about the MOVIE!! Pretty Please.

Martin Luther, bless him, has been dead a long time. He started what is known as the Reformation. The Catholic Church took a lot of what he said to heart, and started a process called the Counter-Reformation. A lot of water under the bridge since then. For example, the Catholic Church no longer sells indulgences. And there are actually Catholic bibles and Catholic religious bookstores and Catholic Bible study and pretty much everything Protestants do to spread the Word of God to all and sundry, only from a Catholic perspective.

You could look it up. ;^)

Here we go!

Do you mean to tell me that the Catholic Church doesn't teach that Mary ascended into Heaven like her son? Praying the rosary speaks volumes about the assumed omnipotence of Mary. What...does she speak English now?

"You could look it up."

You're asking a blind man to cross a busy downtown street.
