"Did I enjoy this film? No, not really, but I'm glad I saw it. It's difficult to watch." Hey, Headscratcher, I think the abovereferenced sentence epitomizes HG's reaction to the film. I've heard a lot of folks say they were inspired by the flick, but that doesn't seem to be her take. As I haven't seen it yet, I continue to be interested in other folks' impressions, and the movie does seem to be quite powerful, even if some folks didn't find it particularly enjoyable.
I will say that I expect the DVD/video sales to be an all-time record, and this version of history will be what most Christians see in their minds'eye when they imagine JC's last hours.

Thanks for your impressions of The Passion, Happygal. I think the movie was overall very scripturally accurate (with a few liberties taken here and there). Lots of imagery and symbolism woven throughout, especially those scenes with the "devil creature". I agree that it was not a movie to enjoy per se but a movie to absorb.
Where the Bible says "By His stripes were ye healed" and "This is my body which is broken for thee", we now have a better visual image of what that meant.

Hey, Headscratcher, I think the abovereferenced sentence epitomizes HG's reaction to the film. Well, I guess that phrase was a bit ambiguous. What I meant was I didn't enjoy two hours of non-stop violence. It's disturbing. It's even more disturbing when you realise that the person being flailed is the Son of God. I'm glad I saw the film though, for a number of reasons - to see what all the bruhaha was about for starters, but also to get a different take on the Crucifixtion, which - after 32 years as an Irish Roman Catholic - tends to become just another piece of religion 'taken for granted', and no longer shocking. (Does that make sense?)
I've heard a lot of folks say they were inspired by the flick, but that doesn't seem to be her take.
I don't know if I'd say I was inspired by this movie. But I wasn't unmoved, either. It is impossible to come away from this movie without feeling stirred in some way. Like I said earlier the depiction of Mary the Mother of God had the most profound effect on me.
As I haven't seen it yet, I continue to be interested in other folks' impressions, and the movie does seem to be quite powerful, even if some folks didn't find it particularly enjoyable.
I don't know if the word 'enjoyable' fits with this film, at all.

"Kerry Warned of 9/11 !!""Rewind to May 6, 2001. That night, a Boston TV station (Fox-25) aired reporter Deborah Sherman's story on an undercover investigation at Logan that Sullivan and another retired agent helped set up. In nine of 10 tries, a crew got knives and other weapons through security checkpoints - including the very ones the 9/11 hijackers would later exploit. The next day, Sullivan fired off a two-page letter to Kerry highlighting the systemic failures. "With the concept of jihad, do you think it would be difficult for a determined terrorist to get on a plane and destroy himself and all other passengers?" he warned. "Think what the result would be of a coordinated attack which took down several domestic flights on the same day. With our current screening, this is more than possible. It is almost likely." The toll from such an attack would be economic, as well as human, he predicted with chilling accuracy. Sullivan followed up by having the undercover videotape hand-delivered to Kerry's office. More than 11 weeks later, Kerry finally replied to his well-informed and anxious constituent. "I have forwarded your tape to the Department of Transportation's Office of Inspector General [DOT OIG]," he said in a brief July 24, 2001, letter, a copy of which I've obtained. Yet Sullivan had made it clear in his letter that going to his old agency was a dead end. He and other agents had complained about security lapses for years and got nowhere. "The DOT OIG has become an ineffective overseer of the FAA," he told Kerry. Sullivan suggested he show the tape to peers on committees with FAA oversight. He even volunteered to testify before them. But he never heard from Kerry again."
I'm not much fer the BlameGame here, but this does sorta cancel out Kerry's claims that Dubyuh shouldda done more to nip 9/11 in the bud.

"The Spanish Apology""The results of Sunday's election in Spain, in which the pro-American Popular party was voted out of office in an upset by a Socialist party profoundly at odds with American policy in Iraq and elsewhere, doesn't leave much room for interpretation. Economics wasn't the issue. Job creation and education weren't topics of widespread debate. The war in Iraq, which the conservative Aznar government strongly supported, despite the overwhelming opposition of most Spaniards, had largely evaporated as a factor in the polls before the voting. Not even the horrible terror attacks of Thursday did much to change voters' minds.
The thing that made the difference to Spanish voters was the growing apprehension that al Qaeda was responsible for the attacks. In the first few hours after the atrocity, homegrown ETA terrorists were blamed by the government for the attacks. If true, this would have strengthened the government's strong antiterrorist position. But subsequent evidence of possible al Qaeda involvement evidence mostly unverified and still under investigation was used by the Socialists in noisy street demonstrations supported by Spain's left-wing press as proof that al Qaeda was targeting Spain because of its support of the U.S. in Iraq and that the government had lied in claiming the ETA was the culprit, despite the fact that potential Arab involvement had been discovered by the outgoing government. BBC reports from Madrid cast the election as a referendum not just on the war, but on whether or not Spanish voters were willing to face the consequences of joining the war on terrorism.
They were not. Spanish voters went to the polls to apologize for their government's actions. There was no other issue on the ballot. The results bode ill for America's antiterrorism campaign. As the Daily Telegraph reports today, the new Spanish prime minister has signaled his desire to move away from the U.S.; withdrawing troops from the Coalition in Iraq was one of the Socialists' main campaign promises, and indeed, it was one of the first acts announced by the new government. By the time you have lunch today, reports the BBC with some satisfaction, Spanish troops will be packing their bags to go home.
But the reaction in the left-wing European press is predictable. The Guardian had already sounded the note the night before the elections in an editorial that reflected the Spanish mood accurately: "We need to take the fight against terror out of America's hands. We need to get beyond the them and us, the good guys and the bad guys, and seek a genuinely collective response. Europe should seize the moment that America failed to grasp." As Spain's left-wing El Pais celebrated the Socialists' "unprecedented" victory, in Libération, the defeat was seen as the price of Aznar's "lies" about al Qaeda culpability. Suddeutsche Zeitung told readers that Aznar was being punished for supporting America's antiterrorism policies in Iraq and elsewhere. In the Independent, Robert Fisk reminded his readers that "The West was warned." He's not referring to September 11, of course.
The ultimate wisdom of allowing al Qaeda terrorism to determine national elections is still to be seen. But as the Socialists in Spain get "beyond the them and us, the good guys and the bad guys," and attempt to find the common ground they have with whomever killed 200 innocent citizens and wounded 1,400 others, that country's apology for supporting the war on terrorism will be heard with appreciation by al Qaeda and ETA, the IRA, Hamas, and every other terrorist organization in the world."
Spain can afford to Surrender to Terrorism...as the World's Lone SuperPower, America does not have that luxury!!

"Lies of a Traitor"
(To be sung to the Box Tops' "Cry Like a Baby")
When I think about the TREASON by Kerry...
Jean's lies're outrageous!!
Left-Wing Medyuh is drivin' me crazy...
My ire's contagious!!
Well, Slick knows now that interns ain't playthings...
But Jean Kerry's got DemLib'rals on their knees!!
As I look back on Reagan's Legacy...
Our Country, Dutch saved it!!
He won the Cold War...a War 'gainst Eeee-vil...
That's why Lib'rals hate him!!
RATS think that Truth is just rel'tive...
Lyin' Boyz, Left's just puppets fer Beijing!!!
Today, we'll take on DeeCee...
DemLibs just cheat and lie!!
Ol' Jean'll just fall at Dubyuh's feet...
And then RATS'll begin to cry...
Well, when I think about the whuppin' we'll give Kerry...
He'll cry like a baby!! [Cry like a baby...*]
Livin' in Prison will drive Ol' Slick crazy...
He'll cry like a baby!! [Cry like a baby...*]
Jean Kerry knows that we're onto his "Sting"...
Jean's fightin' fer Beijing!! [Just like a li'l Commie traitor!*]
Folks, when Slick looks back from his prison cell, wow...
Jean lies like a Traitor!! [Just like a li'l Leftist TRAITOR!*]
Everyone needs to help us FReep...
Speak TRUTH to the Traitor!! [Jean's a Sosh'list Agent!*]
Let Jean feel the Power of FReep...
Jean'll cry like a baby!! [Kerry's a Traitor!!*]
