This was sent to me by the good Brig. General himself.
I have to admit, I was probably the source of the mis-information that he was an Edwards supporter--since there was an FEC record that seemed to show he had given to Edwards.

It turned out to be a different Will Turnipseed (the Brig. Gen. never goes by "Will" and this was not his zip code). I corrected the record, but Salon and others appeared to prefer to dwell in darkness and error:

Unfortunately, the only way this one is going to disappear is if there is some kind of documentary proof that Bush was there - this pot has been stirred too often. I really wish Gen. Turnipseed had kept his mouth shut, and I bet he does, too.

Ok, so Turnipseed wishes he had never been part of this smear campaign on the president? Sorry, I'm not buying that.
He keeps right on doing his very best to stir the pot and keep the story alive. He's had way more attention than his confused ramblings ever deserved.
How about just being a little embarrassed for this pathetic man and letting him fade out of the news. He never belonged there.

That [$500] donation, as the Mobile Register was able to confirm on Thursday, was actually given to the Edwards campaign by Will Turnipseed, a 34-year-old waiter at Wynlakes Country Club in Montgomery. Damn, you must have some heavy tippers down there!

Turnipseed is sick of having his butt kicked around the block by his former officers and conservatives who are now armed with documentary proof that Bush served his obligation, and now he wants to get off the ride. Too bad, buddy! You started this, so you're in it for the duration. What a scumbag.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. Turnipseed told the truth and told it consistently from the start. His words were twisted out of context by Walter V. Robinson of the Boston Globe four years ago. (Robinson has a history of doing this.)
Turnipseed has done a lot recently to try to turn the story around and get the truth out. You are greatly mistaken in your remarks.

More clueless remarks. Turnipseed is a big Bush supporter, and he was four years ago. He told the truth. 60 Minutes and the others who contacted him realized that he was not a Bush hater and that they had no story. Only Robinson decided to twist Turnipseed's remarks so much that they could be used against Bush.
BTW, Turnipseed is a lurker here, so you might want to curb your remarks. He's a good man.

We may have the lead on illegal campaign contributions to Edwards here.
A garnishment action on an overdue small loan reflected that Turnipseed worked at Wynlakes.
A waiter who is having his wages garnished for non payment of a small loan gives $500.00 to attend a fundraiser he doesn't go to?
For a candidate in a primary?
Of his own money?
Turnipseed ... stated that he was asked to donate by a local lawyer, Lee Hamilton.
The lawyer told Turnipseed that Greg Calhoun .... was hosting a fundraiser for Edwards....Turnipseed ... couldn't attend the fundraiser, but he sent a check ....
Most of Edwards money has come from Trial Lawyers. Most of his contributors have already given the max.
It is not unusual in these circumstances for supporters to illegally funnel money to third party's to donate in their own names.
Maurice Stans, Nixon's Campaign Manager in '72 did hard time for that trick.

You might be right. I first got in touch with Brig. Gen. Turnipseed because of the Edwards stuff. In fact, I first got in touch with his psychotic cousin, who is a rabid (crazed even) Democrat, who is a Edwards supporter and the head of the South Carolina Trial Lawyers association.
So this latter Turnipseed (who once wanted to be an Iraqi shield) may have gotten some other member of his extended family to contribute to Edwards to help launder the donations.

Complete agreement on So9's post. That was the first thing that entered my mind.
I'm willing to bet that Sirwill Turnipseed was reimbursed for that $500.

"I'm surprised, in a way, since I wouldn't think a waiter would have that kind of money." Dollars to donuts that $500 donation was given to the waiter Turnipseed by lawyer Calhoun.

There was a character in From Here To Eternity named Turnipseed. A sergeant, I think. I just finished trying to read it. Unreadable book. Awful. Returned it to the library so can't be sure.

If Kerry had been a fighter pilot in the ANG, the media would be hysterical over how great that was and would ignore where he was and why over 30 years ago.

I find the ignorance of some people who SHOULD be in the 'know' to be amazing... i.e., the GOP officials who never seem to have become apprised of the true Turnipseed story....

The driver of the other car involved in the wreck that killed James Dean, the actor, was named Turnipseed.
