ALWAYS bad when the dog goes. I still tear up over my old pooch and he's been gone for three years now.

I'm sure God created dog to be man's best friend.

I have a 13year old dog, and I know 'that day' is coming all too soon ... even if it's 5 years from now, there is less time remaining than we've had together.

There will be a huge hole in my life when she's gone. You can tell by the way the Bush's interact with the critters that they do love them. A very sad day, my heartfelt sympathy to the Bush's.

The President and Mrs. Bush and the entire Bush family are deeply saddened by the
passing of Spot. A loyal and loving companion, Spot was a beloved member of the Bush
family for nearly 15 years. She will be missed.

Call me a sentimental sucker, but I feel their pain.
I'll never forget having my dog (with the original name "Spot") run away
when I was age six. And my mother (heavily pregnant with my brother) running
down the street to retrieve "Spot".

It was a simpler time...

The more I see of men, the better I like my dog.

Heaven goes by favor. If it went by merit, you would stay out and your dog would go in.
~~Mark Twain

Did you ever walk into a room and forget why you walked in? I think that is how dogs spend their lives.
~~Sue Murphy

Man is a dog's idea of what God should be.
~~Holbrook Jackson

My my, la de la, come on now it ain't too far
Tell your friends all around the world
Ain't no companion like a blue eyed merle
Come on now well let me tell ya
What you're missing, missing, 'round them brick walls

So of one thing I am sure
It's a friendship so pure
Angels singing all around, my dog is so fine

Yeah, ain't but one thing to do
Spend my natural life with you
You're the finest dog I knew, so fine

When you're old and your eyes are dim
There ain't no old Shep gonna happen again
We'll still go walking down country lanes
I'll sing the same old songs
Hear me call your name

I'm truly shocked and saddened. I knew Spot was up there in age but this wasn't expected. May she RIP and enjoy Rainbow Bridge until her master comes home to her,

Rest in peace dear Spotty. I too know the pain of losing a beloved pet. Missy, our 16 year old kitty, had to be put to sleep recently. She couldn't eat or walk and it broke my heart so Mrs. teletech and I send our condolences to the Bush family.

How sad. Last year I lost my cat Manfred after 15 years. Pets are really family members and losing one is very painful. My sympathies.

.........(wiping away tears)so sorry to hear this . President Bush must be heart broken. You can tell from the pictures that he loved Spot very much. Arghhhhhhhhhhhhh..... why do animals have such short life spans? It is so hard when they pass away, or you have to put them down( I think the Rudyard Kipling poem back at post #178 expresses it well).

I just got back from taking one of my two canine seniors for a check up (the 15 year old-the other one is 11) My dog is fine so far, but I know she doesn't have much time left. I dread the thought of her passing on, or my other dog for that matter. I used to have a third dog too (a Whippet)but he passed away from old age 2 years ago. I still miss him . Anyway, The vet's Office sent a pamphlet home titled "Care for the Heart of your Family". I thought that was a great term for a pet= "Heart of the Family".

What a sad, but beautiful thread this has been. Wonderful photos and poems, like "Rainbow Bridge" and Jimmy Stewart's poem about his dog.

With the exception of one idiot poster who shall remain nameless- it's well worth it to go back and see all the posts that are here.

It is kind of cool that Spot was born in the White House and passed on there too. My condolences to President Bush and family on the loss of their beloved dog :-(

We have had several springer spaniels & currently have a 4 year old one. They will just have to replace her, nothing like a loving springer in the house!! I remember Millie, didn't realize that Spot was one of her pups. How sad.

Man, I hate it when dogs die, period. I had to go with my mother to put down our dog, Mitzi, when I was a kid. It would be just as hard to do it now. I don't know about you, but I fully expect that when we reach the Pearly Gates, our long-lost, four-legged friends will be there to greet us. Otherwise, I don't wanna go. I'll just stick around here for a few millenia and haunt the hell out of liberals. LOL

A Dogs Plea
Treat me kindly my beloved friend, for no heart in the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.

Do not break my spirit with a stick, for thought I might lick your hand between blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me learn.

Speak to me often, for your voice is the worlds sweetest music, ans you must know by the wagging of my tail when the sound of your call falls upon my waiting ears.

Please take me inside when it is cold and wet, for I am a domesticated animal, no longer accustomed to the bitter elements.

I ask for no greater pleasure than the privilage of sitting at your feet.

Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for I cannt tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me wholesome food that I may stay well to romp and play and walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in any danger.

And my friend when I am old and no longer enjoy good health, hearing and eyesite, do not take any heroic efforts to keep my life going.

Please see to it that my life is taken gently. I shall leave this earth knowing with my last breath that my fate was always safest in your hands.

I had my dog for nine years. I had her put to sleep eighteen years ago. I was heartbroken and have never had another pet since. Fortunately, I eventually got married.
