Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger ordered California's attorney general Friday to take legal action to stop San Francisco from granting marriage licenses to gay couples.

In a letter to Attorney General Bill Lockyer, Schwarzenegger directed the state's top lawyer "to take immediate steps" to get a definitive court ruling declaring what the city is doing to be illegal.

Arnold needs to order the State Police to seize control of the city of San Francisco, and give it back to the people of CA.
Every one in the city's administration, including the SFPD who are not enforcing the laws of CA, need to be arrested, and held until this idiocy stops.

"San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, who directed the county clerk to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples last week, has defended his actions by saying California's Constitution prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation."

In view of the recently enacted constitutional amendment defining marriage as being between a man and a woman, Newson knows his rationale is frivolous and legally untenable. So far, he's lined up two judges who are just as lawless as he is. I doubt his luck will hold out forever.

Liberals have broken the law and played offense here. Its taken our state officials two weeks to bring them to book? I'm not holding my breath waiting for San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsome being removed from office any time soon, considering our state's Attorney General IS a Democrat from you guessed it - none other than that cesspool of Democratic liberalism, San Francisco.

Schwarzenegger was scheduled to appear at the California Republican Party's convention Friday night, and his spokesman said the governor planned to touch on the recent events in San Francisco in his speech to party members.

Glad you're doing this Arnie but the timing is iiiinteresting, hmmm?

The mayor's spokesman, Peter Ragone, scoffed at Schwarzenegger's directive to the attorney general, noting that two judges have already declined to grant emergency orders sought by two conservative opponents of marriage rights for gays and lesbians.

Nice .. He Thumbs his nose at the law and thumbs his nose at a directive by the Gov of the state

Betcha this mayor and his spokesman lose their jobs before years end

"Why does a city official have power over a county official?"

Because the city of San Francisco and the county of San Francisco are the same entity. On the official stationary you will find the words, "City and County of San Francisco."

I agree, when an elected Mayor ignores the law, he should be treated like every other criminal. Mayor Newsom is charged with enforcing existing law, not shaping the law to suit his own agenda. IMHO he should be locked up

The Mayor of San Francisco should have been arrested when he directed same sex marriage. Why hesitate?

Arnold Schwarzenegger is rapidly becoming my HERO! And WHAT A PUBLIC STATEMENT he made on it! He's got the guts! ... at least he's acting and not just talking, which is what I think I see a lot from Bush. Can we run Arnold against Bush in 2004?

By virtue of the city and county of San Francisco having sued the state of California, we need to respond to that lawsuit in the next 30 days," said Nathan Barankin, a spokesman for Lockyer said Friday. "It will be squarely before the courts."

The 2004 Best Horror Film Award goes to . . . Nathan Barankin!
