A fascinating mating dance is taking place off camera between US Senator John Edwards and Former Vermont Governor Howard Dean, who seldom shades his disdain for his fellow New Englander, and sources say, has made overtures to Edwards since he left the 2004 Democratic Primary.
Dean and Edwards spoke cordially by phone yesterday morning, and we hear, are trying to arrange a face to face meeting in the run up to Super Tuesday March 2.
Such a meeting could take place as early as this weekend in New York City.
Few things would upend this race more than Dean's decision to back Edwards, who without the endorsement remains a decided longshot today.
Most importantly for Edwards: The Senator badly needs money to make a solid showing on Super Tuesday, and Dean, if he endorses, would presumably transfer his vast network of donors capable of raising large sums within hours.

Since Dean and Edwards are dancing together, when are they going to San Francisco to get married?

Maybe. According to FNS Exit Polling in Wisconsin Kerry was the clear winner among democrays. Independents and Republicans heavily favored Edwards. I think Republicans ought to back off and let Kerry get the nomination and then we have 9 months to pound him. Edwards is a lot less vulnerable to attack, IMHO.

I think the longer it takes to decide the nominee the better, because it means both will have to keep spending more and more money while W. can sock it away.

Either one will be an easy target, I think. But Kerry will be more fun to watch as he self-destructs.

A month ago we were hearing of a Dean-Edwards ticket.
Is it possible we are now about to hear of, or even FACE, an Edwards-Dean ticket?
Which is shallower, a Vermont pond, or the marshes of Figure Eight Island at Wilmington? Both are very shallow, that much is clear.

If this merger of Edwards/Dean supporters happens, does it mean that Algore will be part of the package? If so, will it be the kiss of death for Edwards as it was for Dean?

Since Dean and Edwards are dancing together, when are they going to San Francisco to get married?Chicago --
Mayor Daley said yesterday he would have "no problem" with County Clerk David Orr issuing marriage licenses to gay couples -- and Orr said he's open to a San Francisco-style protest if a consensus can be built.

Last night on Big Story, Edwards' campaign manager couldn't seem to answer Gibson's question "Why is Edwards a better candidate than Kerry?" I think I've come up with the answer:
"Edwards is the better candidate to face Bush in November because he is quite happy to finish second."
To: chucknun
A DU'er described Edwards as uncooked dough. The Deaniacs are not happy with Edwards because he supported IWR.

A contested primary does not hurt the Democrats. It raises interest in their contest and gets the candidate on TV. Money spent on primaries will be more than made up for by the increased effectiveness in fundraising caused by the drama of the race. Plus a contested campaign helps the eventual nominee sharpen his message and define himself for the fall battle.
IMHO, the best thing that could happen for the Republicans is to have this thing settled early. Let the disappointed losers whine and cry about the front-loaded primary, and let Kerry drop from the radar screen for four months. By July, he'd be "John F Who?" at the convention.

Dean raised and spent about $50.3 million in his presidential run, and he won 201 delegates. That means he spent about $250,000 to win each delegate, including superdelegates. Without superdelegates included, he spent some $500,000 per delegate.Wow!
