[history]
Howard Dean's withdrawal from the Democratic primaries yesterday ends one of the more remarkable flameouts in Presidential history. But while the former Vermont governor won't be his party's nominee, he deserves to be recognized as the most consequential loser since Barry Goldwater.

Thank you Dr. Dean. I want the country to be more like Vermont with respect to its gun laws, strict Second Amendment.

I thought Ross Perot had that title locked up for infinity.

The good doctor did a great job yanking his party way left. Kerry's band of brothers will be fairly small, I suspect, once the 2.5 - 3 million veterans are aware of how he tarnished them, the vast majority of them being volunteers. In the event that Edwards is on the ticket, the physicians of this country, who number at least 600,000, will have little incentive to vote in his favor. Things aren't so bad without Dean.

"We doubt it's an accident that Senator Hillary Clinton, waiting in the wings for 2008, is now more hawkish than Mr. Dean and Senator Kerry on the war on terror." And, after the electoral carnage is done this November, who shall come riding in on her white broom to lead the party back to the "center"?

i think we can start the campaign against hilary now, rather than wait until 2008. the theme could focus on a lucretia borgia/catherine de medici/ wicked witch of the west portrayal.
the current broadway hit "wicked" could be used to caricature her.
maybe a picture ad in which a cute little dorothy throws a pail of water on a green hilary.
