Accuses U.S., Israel of war aimed at 'annihilating the Islamic nation'

The top Islamic leader of Australia and New Zealand has called for a holy war against Israel and accuses the United States and the Jewish state of seeking to wipe out Muslims.
Taj Al-Din Hamed Abdallah Al-Hilali, mufti of Australia and New Zealand, made the comments last Friday at the Al-Quds mosque during a visit to Sidon, Lebanon, according to the Middle East Media Research Institute.
"The war waged by the U.S. and Israel against the Muslims is a cruel war aimed at annihilating the [Islamic] nation," he said.
Born in Egypt in 1941, he graduated from Cairo's Al-Azhar University and served as a preacher in Egypt, Libya and Lebanon before coming to Australia in 1982.
In 1988 he was appointed to his present position by the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils.
Lamenting the lack of "real men" to lead the Arab world, Al-Hilali praised the leader of the terrorist group Hezbollah, Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, whom he had met recently.
"I blessed Hezbollah for liberating the prisoners and the bones of the shahids [martyrs] and I praised it and its sacrifice," Al-Hilali said. "Hezbollah has become a model for all the mujahideen [holy warriors] in the world."
He contended most Australians don't support the policy of its government, which has "placed Hezbollah on the terror list out of submission to the U.S."
He vowed Australian Prime Minister John Howard "will pay the price for this in the next elections."
MEMRI notes this is not the first time Al-Hilali has expressed such anti-Western sentiments, declaring in a March 2003 speech President Bush, Australian Prime Minister John Howard and British Prime Minister Tony Blair are the "axis of evil."
He likened "Bush Jr." to the son of Genghis Khan, calling him "the most ignorant president to lead the White House."
On another occasion he said the media "all over the world are controlled by Zionist fingers, particularly the Western media, and that includes Australia, in which the media are under Zionist hegemony."
However, Al-Hilali believes "the Zionist Western attack on Islam" has become the best means of Islam's propagation.
"The Muslims are like a cotton [cushion] that the upholsterer's stick only makes bigger," he said. "When the cotton is worn out and can no longer be sat upon, the upholsterer comes along and attacks it ferociously with his stick. These blows clean the cotton, cause it to swell, expand, and grow.
"Thus are the Muslims," he said. "The stick of the Western media prompted the spread of Islam and stimulated the Westerners to hasten to acquaint themselves with it ."
He said the events of Sept. 11, 2001, in the U.S. "caused a revolutionary change in the military and defensive balance of power in the world, and all the world must reexamine their considerations in light of these developments ."
In one interview, Al-Hilali accused the U.S. of terrorism and expressed support for suicide attacks.
"There is no doubt that the U.S. is dealing with wholesale marketing of terrorism," he said. "The U.S. is the biggest agent for terrorism in the world, and Israel perpetrates terrorism, with funding and military and diplomatic support from the U.S."
Al-Hilali said Muslims are proud of "the Islamic resistance in Palestine, Lebanon, Kashmir, and everywhere in the world that seeks to achieve its legitimate rights in accordance with the international resolutions, the human rights conventions, and the U.N. resolutions."
He also expressed pride for the "resistance that liberated southern Lebanon, led by Hezbollah, the legitimate Lebanese national movement, that forced the Israeli occupation army to withdraw from southern Lebanon, dragging trails of disappointment and shame behind it."
He praised the Palestinian terrorist groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad as well.
"We support the resistance and support, with all our might, the martyrdom operations carried out by the Palestinian liberation movements, operations that are a legitimate act against the cruel occupation, according to all international norms and conventions," he said.
In another interview, Al-Hilali discussed Muslim life in Australia, warning the country's Islamic community is threatened by a law that prohibits a family's guardianship over its sons when they reach age 16.
"The father has no authority over his son or his daughter, and if you try to intervene in your son's private life, he brings in the police," he said. 'The moment your son reaches 16, he takes his freedom and becomes independent."
Even more dangerous, he said, are sex education classes in the schools, which reflect the West's freedom and permissiveness.
"In the West, the society is divided, generally speaking, into different parts in accordance with how interesting they are," he said. "First comes caring for dogs and cats. In second place is the woman, and in third place is the child, and in fourth place is the male. Australia is one of the Western societies, and it has recently enacted laws enacted allowing men to marry men and women to marry women. The church officially registers them."
He said many Muslim families in Australia "feel they are being threatened and very quickly they set out on a journey back to their countries of origin."
Al-Hilali also claims Afghan Muslims preceded Captain Cook in his discovery of Australia.
Australia's Aborigine people have customs such as circumcision, marriage ceremonies, respect for tribal elders and burial of the dead, he said, which show "they were connected to ancient Islamic culture before the Europeans set foot in Australia."
Islam, he claimed, "had roots deep in the Australian soil and read the Quran and called to prayer before the bells of the churches rang in Australia."
"The best evidence of this is the hundreds of mosques in the center of Australia built by the Afghans," he said. "Some of them were destroyed, and others were turned into Australian archeological museums, and still others remained unharmed, and they bear a history that proves that Islam has roots and ancient connections to Australia."

Pretty much. :o)
Slight correction, then on the money!
If his source for this claim was the idiot box,it's not hard to see why he would believe such a thing.
"He vowed Australian Prime Minister John Howard "will pay the price for this in the next elections."
What's this then,a mufti who has his hand on the pulse of Aussie opinion ?
If he did he'd realize just how popular he aint and the very fact he gets up Howard will most likely assure Howard a few more votes.
To quote Michael Caton in 'The Castle'.... " tell 'im he's dreamin' "
"The war waged by the U.S. and Israel against the Muslims is a cruel war aimed at annihilating the [Islamic] nation," he said.
Oh, if that was truly the case! I would gladly join up in a mecenary outfit if I knew I'd have a chance to wage a total war against these savages! (Not conventional military - I will NOT be bound by treaties or rules of engagement!)
He likened "Bush Jr." to the son of Genghis Khan...
OH-HO-HO-HO! That's FUNNY! If GWB was anything like the family of ol' Genghis, this guy's head would already be on a pike in front of the White House, and his family would have already been auctioned off as slaves. Get a clue!
He said many Muslim families in Australia "feel they are being threatened and very quickly they set out on a journey back to their countries of origin."
And why is this a bad thing? Personally, I wouldn't want to hang around in a country where I'm not welcome. Besides, if not for the wild antics and rantings of Muslims, they would be no different from any other religious/ethnic group. But NOOOOO, they have to spread their faith through murder and rape, just like old Mo' said to! Mellow out and maybe the West won't hate you!

Okay, now this poor f*cker's gone off the deep end.
He used the term 'nation'. This slip of the tongue shows how Islam is not just a religion, but is an entire world view, encompassing politics as well as faith. Thus, governments should not necessarily regard it only as a religion, thereby protecting it, but rather as a political movement as well. A very destructive one, at that.
They also walked on the moon before the Americans and caused the last ice age!
I've often observed that Islam is Nazism, minus the fashion sense.
Their fashion sense (long flowing robes covering the entire body) is driven by the fact that they caused the last ice age. See post # 15.
Bye you muderous swine. We should have never let you in to begin with. I hope the whole damn lot of you leave. You come here and are not prepared to adopt our value system or our culture.
