Bush plan alienates GOP Senate candidates
IMMIGRATION PROPOSAL DRAWS OPPOSITION FROM 4 HOPEFULS
By Edwin Garcia
Mercury News
Smaller government. Tax cuts. Defeating Democratic incumbent Barbara Boxer. The main contenders in the California Republican primary for U.S. Senate all agree when it comes to those views popular with their party.
But there's a topic that's too touchy for any of the candidates to line up behind President George Bush -- illegal immigration.
Bush's proposal to legalize many undocumented workers -- the largest share of whom are in California -- has the GOP candidates criticizing, albeit carefully, the president.
In fact, Kaloogian, the candidate most vocal against the proposal during a recent forum in Republican-rich Placer County, received the loudest applause.
``I'm afraid the president has a bad policy for California, and a bad policy for the country,'' Kaloogian told 300 party loyalists at the annual Lincoln Day dinner Wednesday in Roseville. The plan, he said, was ``mechanically flawed and morally wrong.''
Kaloogian, a former state Assembly member whose constituents lived near the U.S-Mexico border, suggested the United States should increase border security and government officials should deal with the source of the problem, by pressuring Mexico to improve its conditions so that fewer people will want to migrate north.

Defeating Democratic incumbent Barbara Boxer. Sweet dreams
meanwhile, if Barbara Boxer wants it, shell get it. Ignore everything else you hear from Kaloogian, Bush, or the GOP. If she wants it shell win running away. You can bet on that its free money. Bet the farm if you can find somebody to take the action.

Count on Jones, Casey and Marin to support Bush's immigration "reform" concepts if elected.
Sadly Jones and Marin wouldn't be violating any campaign pledges if they did.
Casey would, but that wouldn't bother her a bit. If she received any local flak on the issue she'd simply change her political registration back to Democrat.

I hope Kaloogian can get his message out. Barbara Boxer won't even touch the subject of illegal immigration. She is worthless here in CA. I think I'll put a "Kaloogian for Senator" sign in my yard if I can get one. Also, I'll tell everyone I know that we have a chance to elect a man who will admit what a problem illegal immigration is to California.
As the article says, the majority of illegal aliens reside here in CA, and we're paying the bills for them. Bush's "proposal" won't solve the problem, it will only make it worse.

Kaloogian is the only candidate who will speak out -- telling the truth, even if it means saying that another Republican is mistaken.
Ronald Reagan taught Republicans a lesson about political courage, but most of them have forgotten how to even spell "Reagan."
Kaloogian is a principled conservative, which is what we desperately need right now.
I will take a sign too!

Yep! But he knows that and knows his best hope will to become a (as he puts it) national cause celebre of the conservative movement for $$$.

He is outspoken on this issue. One presidential candidate that favors defensive border enforcement and opposes amnesty is Michael Peroutka.

If he is running as a Republican the limp wristed party in California will pick another RINO like Arhold to loss to Boxer.A tough on illegals will win. I don't know why the state party seems to think they can skip around the most pressing issue in the state.

I won't vote for Rosario Marin, even if she's the GOP nominee. She's an unacceptable Illegal Alien shill. What's the scoop on Jones and Illegals? I haven't been watching him that closely. I'd be surprised if Toni Casey went with the Bush Amnesty. She spoke pretty forcefully against it the other night on the Al Rantel Show - KABC 790.
