February 15, 2004 -- It went almost unnoticed, but earlier this month a noble ally of America addressed a joint session of Congress.
Jose Maria Aznar - the first Spanish prime minister and second Spaniard ever to address Congress - has been a stalwart friend of the United States throughout both of his four-year terms, but especially since the beginning of the War on Terror.

It went almost unnoticed, but earlier this month a noble ally of America addressed a joint session of Congress. Jose Maria Aznar - the first Spanish prime minister and second Spaniard ever to address Congress - has been a stalwart friend of the United States throughout both of his four-year terms, but especially since the beginning of the War on Terror.
Aznar was rightly given standing ovations by the assembled lawmakers for an inspiring speech in which he reaffirmed the solemn commitment Spain made to the United States after the 9/11 attacks and thanked the American people "for the indispensable role they have played in the fight for democracy and freedom."
Spain's presence in Iraq - like that of Italy - gives the lie to the Bush-bashers' claim that "Old Europe" has been "alienated" by the war to liberate Iraq.
....no country in Old Europe is "older" than Spain.
And make no mistake: Spain, with its population of 43 million and vibrant free-market economy - the eighth-largest in the world - is an increasingly important force within the European Union.

Any place that gave the world the word, Matamoros, cannot be all bad.
Looks like they had the right idea about Moozies way back in 1492, they must have been doing something right!

Imho, very strong relationships must be made between the English-, Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries. Britain/Spain/Portual are the cultural homeland for North and South America.
U.S. Americans are too distracted by the Mexican border issue, and generally ignore the long-term opportunity to form an Americas-focused union that is the proper successor to the U.S. I have in mind a mega-political and economic union, formed by joining the willing states...an open trading block involving all of the Americas, Spain, Britain, Portual, and others that have the desire. English-supremacy will go by the boards, in the process. Within two generations -- hopefully much less -- it will be very clear that our long-term best interests are served by aggressively promoting Spanish/English bingualism in this country.
Anyway, Spain! Hats off.

Very few people think. They absorb what's fed to them by the press. You have to be carefully fed the lies and revisionist history.
Blowing away the enemy smoke and mirrors, the facts stand.
The reason for going to war is solid.
Anyone with a heart, soul, mind and love of freedom would agree with the facts, if they knew.
It's up to each of us to look beyond proven mistrustworthy 'news' sources for those stubborn facts, which do and always will form a solid case FOR removing Saddam and AGAINST the press, and those who still buy their lies, even now - post 911.
Our Spanish Prime Minister is an ally, and a courageous man. Unlike his European war critic peers.

A big thanks to Espana. I have been there 3 times and loved it, including a pilgrimige to Santiago. It is an ancient 1000 year old path runing from the French border 450 miles across green, lush mountainous Northern Spain.
When you reach the holy city of Santiago de Compestela (St James of the Field of Stars) there is the ancient cathedral where the last free Christians prepared for 700 years to battle the arabs. Above the altar is a life size, full color sculpture of St. James represented as a medieval Spanish knight, sword raised, astride a reared white stallion. Beneath him are a bunch of Osama bi Ladin lookalikes being crushed.

He's a great man and I worry about who may replace him. I hope the Spanish people are wise enough to find someone as strong as Aznar.

Portuguese/Spanish do NOT support the war in Iraq, muito obrigado... Bush is faoul language in Lisboa___ Durão Barroso/Portas are retracting themselves after the Kay report ____________ tic, tac, tic, tac This was the Real World brough to you by ANRCHTN.
*****************************
Subtitled version:
In the Spanish link ANRCHTN posted, a demonstration in Madrid by 9,000 demonstrators (by Government estimates) were declared to be 150,000 demonstratos by the demonstration organizers. Therefore, that must mean "the Spanish" are against us.
The 21 March 2003 Portuguese link that ANRCHTN posted reveals that 80% of the Portuguese favored Saddam's fall from power prior to the Iraq War but 46% "were afraid" of helping militarily lest the terrorists attack them.
I point out to our Portuguese friend that a cowardly nation rarely wins a battle.
