NC ALERT: Leftist "anti-war" rally in Fayetteville planned for March 20, 2004

Posted on 02/14/2004 10:41:05 AM PST by tgslTakoma
It seems that the usual suspects (United for Peace and Justice, International ANSWER, National Lawyers Guild, International Socialists, Muslim American Society, etc.) have had some difficulty amassing the requisite number of sheep to do another "Mass March on Washington," so they are instead planning multiple smaller events across the country on March 20th.
Heads-up North Carolina FReepers - they are coming to Fayetteville, NC.
From NCPeaceHub's website, here is their announcement:
March 20th: THE WORLD STILL SAYS NO TO WAR
Fayetteville, North Carolina- 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Local: www.Ncpeacehub.org National: www.unitedforpeace.org
One year ago on February 15th, 2003, millions of people took to the streets to say no to the impending war on Iraq. On March 20th, 2004, the one year anniversary of the U.S. Invasion of Iraq, people from around North Carolina and the South will march and rally in Fayetteville to demand Real Support for the Troops: Money for Jobs and Education, not War and Occupation. Sponsored by Military Families Speak Out, Veterans for Peace, United for Peace and Justice and over 100 local peace & justice organizations, the March and rally on March 20th in Fayetteville is part of a global day of action to say: The World Still Says No to War. Organizers are seeking endorsements, donations, peacekeepers and other volunteers. Durham and Chapel Hill bus tickets are available from the Regulator Books, the Know Bookstore, and Internationalist Books. More information is available on the web at www.NCpeacehub.org.

TR, I have no idea about Fayetteville's preps. This is the first and only place I've heard about it. I'll keep an eye out though...the paper should have some info about it, but I don't think there will be more info until the day gets closer.

The Charlotte rally will be a token distraction, and will probably not cause harm to or deject the troops and their families to the same degree. We can't counter protest every little cluster of whiners, but we can and should offer love and support in one of the hearts of our military housing.

Can I suggest a slogan for the new MOAB? "If those guys are the ANSWER, then it must be a REAL STUPID QUESTION."
What's going to be done to protect Charlotte? Everyone's getting ready for FayetteNAM, but nobody's talking about the other end of the state. If I'm working that weekend, I'll be out protesting these fools for a portion of the time. Otherwise, I'll try to talk the wife into some activism in the Fayetteville direction. I'm loud enough on my own to shout down these fools, but it is always good to have backup.

Reading through the minutes of the last NC Peacehub meeting, there is nothing they have planned for Charlotte.

One note: we will almost certainly have to have a permit. It's definitely a very good idea to check in advance with the local constabulary to see if a permit is required and what areas are available. If the lefties have gotten permits for all the public spaces (which they are known to do) in a particular area, you may just have to wing it and pick a spot along their march route that would accomodate a large number of "parade watchers." Watching a parade as it passes down a street does not require a permit.
Hint, once the route of the lefty march is known, pick high ground. That way everyone can see your signs and flags, and the lefties have to look up to see you. :-)

Neo-nazi's are one group of people that I will avoid like the plaque. They are not known to be peaceful demonstrators and usually wherever they are there is trouble.
To: TaxRelief
Charlotte is on that list for the 20th. It looks like each city and town will have stage it's own counter-protest.
To: tgslTakoma
MOAB is it! Hope to see you there!
To: dixie sass
When is the Million Mom's March? Why does this date ring a very large bell?Million Moms are coming to DC on Mothers Day, May 9th.
The bell is ringing because March 20th was to be the date that cANSWER was going to come back to DC for another "Massive" rally. But because they lied so outrageously and repeatedly about their numbers at previous rallies (50,000 - 250,000 - 100,000 - 50,000) and because their supporters were dropping off like flies, they knew that they couldn't sell that lie again. And they knew we would be there to counterprotest them and rub their noses in it. So they SURRENDERED DC to us!
This time they are going to do a "Massive" march in New York City, and have smaller "Massive" rallies in other cities on the same day. The communist leaders of ANSWER and UFPJ, etc. chose Fayetteville to rally their regional supporters to wage war on the morale of our soldiers and their families at Ft. Bragg (and other nearby AF and USMC facilities too).
Does that answer your question?
:-)

Stop The Corporate Invasion Of Iraq! Protect Iraqi Workers' Rights (February 24 War Profiteers Event)
Tuesday, February 24th 2004 05:00 pm
Following on the heels of the military invasion of Iraq, another invasion began: a corporate invasion by Halliburton, Bechtel, and other U.S. companies that were awarded millions in reconstruction contracts. Nine months into the occupation, Iraqi schools are still in disrepair, electricity is intermittent, and the water is not safe to drink. Join us in Charlotte for a protest at the corrupt MCI Corporation awarded a contract worth at least 30 million dollars.
Protest George Bush Vist To Charlotte (Rally)
Thursday, February 26th 2004 ':' '
George Bush will be in Charlotte for a $2,000 a plate fundraiser. His visit will be greeted by the anti-war welcome wagon when he comes to "our backyard." Time TBA. A meeting place near the Charlotte Convention Center is TBA, and we'll go from there. Plan to set up a "soup line" to feed the needy.
The World Still Says No To War! Bring The Troops Home Now! Demonstration (March 20 Mobilization - Recurring)
Saturday, March 20th 2004 12:00 pm
Join us in Charlotte as part of this global day of action. More US soldiers have died than in the first four years of Vietnam. Innocent Iraqis' are dying everyday & still doing without basic necessities. Our social programs & economy are being sacrificed for war, occupation, & corporatations with ties to the Republican Party. Millions will take to the streets to say YES to peace & NO to war & occupation.

Maybe someone should let those idiots know about the anti-war rally. I bet they would love to get their hands on some commies.
