This is the first report of a handgun that I've seen.I've been pretty much out of action lately and could have missed some reports, though.
A handgun would be my choice if I wanted to terrorize an area as this shooter has.
Too many people discredit the effectiveness of handguns because "they" haven't used them for shooting at any range to speak of.

50 are rare, that would limit it to one type handgun ...I can thinnk of only one (in 50AE). There may be a few otherws, but they would be even more uncommon. What I'm wondering is would the type of person that generaly buys one of those (hunters, collectors) be the type that does this kind of shooting? Could be a stolen gun, I guess. Ammo for them is not real common (like at a walmart) and the source could probably be located, maybe giving a hint as to the shooter.

I am betting the statement that it was a 50 Cal. was made by some media snipe that would not know a .50 from a air rifle. I hope they catch this nut soon.
I just am offended when the media "experts" start quoting gun facts from unknown sources.
The scary part is that a lot of "professional law enforcement" individuals, do not have a clue either.

Let's hope paramedics from the Triple-A arrived in time to render first aid. Those hits to the right side panel could result in a fatal loss of hydraulic brake fluid....

I just got back from running a few errands. The helicopters stopped searching continuously around 1:00. I hear one now, so I imagine it's sporadic. The cops are still at the entrance/exit ramps at 70 & Pataskala. I passed about 15 cruisers while I was out. We normally see zero. Anything more about Grove City?

The information about the hand gun came out last week during the Jeffersonville shootings. A witness said he would have noticed if the shooter had a rifle.

I just thought it was odd that she would make that kind of statement on TV if she didn't have the information. LEO's are releasing very little information to the public.

Vehicle Shot On I-70 Appears Linked
No Injuries Reported
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A vehicle was shot Saturday morning on Interstate 70 near Pataskala, and investigators said the shooting appears to be linked to the series of shots fired throughout Central Ohio, NewsChannel 4 reported.
The incident happened at about 10:45 a.m., west of Route 310 near the Pataskala exit.
A Chevrolet Suburban appeared to be shot on the front right-side panel, NewsChannel 4 reported. The shot might have been taken from the Tollgate Road overpass.
This shooting is outside of the general geographic location that 23 other shootings have occurred, and a link to those shootings has not been confirmed. This shooting was the farthest east.
The serial shooting task force announced that it will hold a press conference at 3:30 p.m. and can be seen live on NewsChannel 4.
The task force said witnesses saw a white male in his mid-30s who was well-groomed and wore black sunglasses. They described his vehicle as a black compact car, perhaps a Chevrolet Geo Metro.
The description is similar to one given by witnesses who were shot at last Sunday on Interstate 71 in Fayette County southwest of Columbus.
According to witnesses to last Sunday's shootings, the description of the shooter was a white man with a handgun. He was believed to be 30-40 years old. The man was believed to be driving a small, dark-colored sports car or sedan.
A reward for information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the shooter or shooters responsible for Gail Knisley's death stands at $60,000.
Anyone with information is asked to call (614) 462-4646.

I wonder about what our world in general is coming to when I read these posts from people who try to make funny comments on this situation. It really makes them look like the idiots they are.

it it was from a .50 cal, the right side might appear to have been shot, but what did the left side look like??
a car will not stop a .50 cal bullet.

Nope. Haven't heard a thing. They did some fly bys and then a little more concentration but haven't seen them or heard them since.

Lisa, I'm familiar with EV and archy and I don't think they mean any harm. Perhaps they just don't understand what those of us that live here have been witnessing.
While it's true one person has been killed by this sniper, and what, close to 30 shootings we may know of, I don't think all FR folks have been keeping up with this since it only pertains to those of us who live where the shootings have been occurring.
FYI - we have a shooter, using a hand gun who likes to shoot randomly at cars on freeways and country roads and at houses too. He has managed to kill one elderly woman who was a passenger in a car, that is only one time where he managed to hit a person and when he did it killed her.
The rest of the time it has been hitting cars and trucks and shooting into peoples houses. He is in a pretty small area and it has been going on for some time. Those of us that live and have to travel around here do so cautiously and would like to see him caught.

Thanks for your input.
I actually do have a sense of humor, a pretty good one I like to think. I guess my post was a knee jerk reaction to being on the phone this morning calling to check to see that my child and other family members were home and safe. The fact that noone else has been injured or worse is a miracle.
Just wondering, I wasn't on FR at the time of the DC shootings. Did people make inappropriate, lame jokes during that situation as well, and was it acceptable?

We make inappropriate jokes all the time. It's the way we deal with a lot of things. No one intends on being crass but sometimes it does get a little touchy. Most mean no harm.
Most jokes were made about the police chief or the fact that they were sure it was a white guy in a white van.
But the seriousness was not lost on most. I think for today's thread all folks see is the headline, a car was shot and that is what they are responding to.

Forgive me my insensitity.
My comment was on poor writing by so-called journalists, not on the horror that folks up there are going through.
