AUGUSTA - Attorney General Steven Rowe announced Thursday the first enforcement actions against violators of Maine's smoking ban in bars that went into effect on New Year's Day.
Lawsuits were brought against bars in Brunswick and Harrison based on citizen complaints, Rowe said in a statement.
A state investigation confirmed that McGillicuddy's in Brunswick and the Caswell House in Harrison failed to observe the state's smoking ban, one of the strictest in the nation, the attorney general said.
Mike Molloy, owner of the Caswell House, had no comment Thursday morning. No one from McGillicuddy's was available to comment.

"BASED ON CITIZENS COMPLAINTS." I hope these snitch idiots can sleep very well at night, knowing that are snuffing out the very economy that is keeping their towns alive.
And I hope they read this too! I have VERY little respect for SNITCHES!

Two hundred bucks a day fine.
I wonder who wrote the summons. I mean, if YOU give me a speeding ticket, well, it wouldn't mean diddley. If the state wrote the summons, it needs to have evidence.

It's amazing. Two centuries ago, this neck of the woods was part of the cradle of American liberty. Now it's been reduced to being part of the cradle of American totalitarianism. I bet if the Founding Fathers had seen it coming, they'd have let Britain keep everything north of the Potomac, and started over in North Carolina.

It is Picknose incrementalism.
Welcome to the New World Order. Put out that cigarette. Dontcha know the dangers of 2nd hand smoke?
Pull away from the drive-through. The whole frickin' economy has to support fat people like you.
Put on your seat belt. Society can't afford to pay your medical bills.

Next phase: smoking will be prohibited in private vehicles in which minors are riding. Police will be empowered to stop and ticket violators. The Ministry of Children's Welfare may become involved.
It's for the children, you know.

Last i heard, theres still a right to face your accuser. And indeed there is. In criminal matters, the accuser is The State, represented by the DA. And one certainly faces him at trial.

I find it very ironic how these "unelected" officials in Maine can just rule the state in however THEY want it to be. And we the people aren't supposed to say one word. Just act like little sheeple and crawl at their knees.
Well, I think most of us are getting just a little tired of seeing so many lay-offs and businesses closing because of certain coalitions that just want to lord it over the rest of us! How about you?

It's for the children, you know. Bingo. Right there, in that phrase is the Modern justification for limiting freedom, wrecking the Constitution, and infringing on private property rights. Too many of us are working 80-hour weeks to support our families (and the families of those who refuse to work). We're too damned busy to stop the onslaught, and that's what the Lifestyle Nazis are counting on.
