...Late this morning, DrudgeReport.com alleged that a new scandal was about to rock the campaign of Democratic frontrunner John Kerry: some sort of purported recent marital "infidelity" that involved a woman who once worked for the Associated Press, and has now supposedly "fled the country." ...[snip] Reached by E&P for comment, AP spokesman Jack Stokes said, "We simply don't comment on stories we are pursuing or not pursuing."
Leonard Downie Jr., executive editor of The Washington Post, acknowledged that his staff had begun to dig deeper into the life and career of Kerry, but said he had not heard anything about an alleged infidelity. "What we're finding, I don't know," he said. "This is the first we are looking into him this way."
This was, I believe, a pre-arranged appearance.
In addition, it is now known that Kerry will appear on The Today Show, responding to penetrating questions from the perky Katie.
In the meantime, it is worth noting that not a single member of the mainstream media has uttered a word about the alleged affair. Not so much as a whisper. Nary a "There are reports that...".
Why? They are awaiting their marching orders. Merely biding their time until Kerry makes his appearance on The Today Show. In his remarks, Kerry will signal the media how he wants them to handle the affair.
The News Directors at the networks, their anchors and the Editors for the New York Times, Washington Post, Time, Newsweek, et al will be taking notes.
Thus their first headlines about the affair can read "Kerry denies alleged affair, claims it's Bush's fault", appropriate text to follow.
What a sleazy bunch of dishonest people...
