No Challenge to Mike - Vito

WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. Vito Fossella, who has been mentioned as a possible Republican rival for Mayor Bloomberg in the 2005 race for City Hall, said yesterday he has no intention of running.

"I have no plans, no, never had any intention, no plans to run for mayor," he said.

Fossella (Staten Island/Brooklyn) joined Bloomberg in Washington yesterday to help lobby legislators for more homeland security and transportation funds.

"I've been supportive of Mike Bloomberg and continue to be supportive of Mike Bloomberg for mayor," Fossella said.

Asked whether he will endorse Bloomberg for reelection, Fossella said: "I see that."

Bloomberg said he believes the perceived friction between the two was media hype.

"I don't know that we've ever had any real differences," Bloomberg said.

"A lot of that was made up by the papers. Vito and I have been friends for a long time," the mayor said.

Why would Vito challenge Mike, his own son, the one he wants to take over the family operations?

Hmm, maybe I got the wrong idea from this headline.

I have to say I'm disappointed in my congressman Vito not running. IMHO, there would have been little downside in him challenging Bloomberg -- Vito wouldn't have had to give up his seat to do it, and he'd increase his name recognition and popularity in case he wants to run for higher office. Plus, he'd be a conservative hero in ridding our party of Bloomberg once and for all.

I guess he's afraid of running afoul of the NYC RINO machine...

I, for one, am NOT looking forward to the next mayoral election -- all we'll have to choose from is a liberal RINO and some leftist jerk like Ferrer or Barron.

"Vito is running for mayor" was never real. It was an inside baseball teak at Bloomberg. Anyone who thinks about it, has to conclude that there is no way whatsoever that a conservative from Staten Island could win - period!

Its been a pleasure having Vito as my Congressman, but I am pissed that he didn't at least try a nominal challenge to Nurse Bloomberg.

Vito rocks. Hopefully, he keeps his seat for awhile, so that nobody ever named Molinari holds that seat again.
