How is it even a flap? No one but Drudge is reporting this. I checked the websites...

Based on mediainfo, the only ones who seem to have commented, your answer is no comment.

Will Press Pounce on Drudge's Kerry Rumor?

By E&P Staff

Published: February 12, 2004 Updated at 1:30 PM EST

NEW YORK Matt Drudge's Web site, which first broke allegations about President Bill Clinton's dalliance with a White House intern in 1998, is at it again.

Late this morning, DrudgeReport.com alleged that a new scandal was about to rock the campaign of Democratic frontrunner John Kerry: some sort of purported recent marital "infidelity" that involved a woman who once worked for the Associated Press, and has now supposedly "fled the country." According to the site, this story was being investigated by the AP, The Washington Post, Time magazine and ABC network.

Reached by E&P for comment, AP spokesman Jack Stokes said, "We simply don't comment on stories we are pursuing or not pursuing."

Leonard Downie Jr., executive editor of The Washington Post, acknowledged that his staff had begun to dig deeper into the life and career of Kerry, but said he had not heard anything about an alleged infidelity. "What we're finding, I don't know," he said. "This is the first we are looking into him this way."

The Drudge site also declared that General Wesley Clark, in an off-the-record chat with reporters earlier this week, predicted that the Kerry campaign would soon implode due to an "intern." It would seem strange, however, if he really believed that, that he would drop out of the race, as he did yesterday.

The site added, however, that the Kerry rumor helped explain why Howard Dean did stay in the race and has been increasingly aggressive in his attacks on Kerry this week.

aug ohh, if it's an edwards/clinton slate, then edwards better not ride in plances, helicopters or get in a vehicle and stay away from Ft. Marcy Park.
We know what happens to those who have worked with the previous occupants of the whitehouse.

Susan Estrich said they've been sitting on this for years

So why bring this news up now???

BTW .. this news was in the National Enquire for a week or so and now all of a sudden they are making a big deal about it

IMO .. this story is ment to either change the subject off the Kerry/Fonda story

Or it's to help Edwards to the front

Rush is saying that Clark is going to endorse Kerry

So that leaves out my Edwards theory

Betcha this is to try and change the subject from Kerry/Fonda

"No way. If this were a purposeful leak that Kerry was releasing to get it done early, it would be done after he had locked up the nomination. The race is now in flux. Kerry is only the frontrunner because he's electable, now he's less electable."

But the nomination *is* over. Kerry has locked up 12 out 14 state wins, has a huge lead over all other Democrats nationally.
Dean is dead, he down at 5%. Edwards is dying out there, way behind. It's over. Kerry will be the nominee. Great timing to throw out an allegation that turns out to be false, then they can sweep the *truth* of is shady marriage and dating past under the rug. Same way Clinton did in 1992. I wouldnt call this purposeful, I agree on that ... but it may not hurt Kerry that much at this point; we'll see.

OK, I should say that Kerry still is the prohibitive favorite (although Dems have been very quick to throw frontrunners overboard this year). Edwards is poised to pick up the Kerry slack, although Dean has pushed in WI. This saturday is DC and NV. 17th is WI and 24th is HI, ID, UT. If Dean wins DC (he won the straw poll there) and WI, it's a horserace again. March 2 is Super Tuesday. If Dean has some wins going into that day, this could be a huge mess.

"...a young British journalist working in Washington ..."

Ah, yes, another one of the female (and probably male) left-wing "journalists" who continue to to perform in-depth investigative reporting on left-wing politicians from their "under-cover" positions.

You are right.
The last thing Hillary wants to be associated with is impeachment and interns.
Edwards can't carry the south.

This is a Dean/Gore/Clark thing. Bet on it.

They are taking out the Clintons.

Clark is a strategist - keep your friends close....

He's also getting out of the way so Dean will tap him to flesh out his military resume as he vaults past Kerry.

Only thing that remains is this - if the Clintons are behind this, why isn't the mainstream press writing about it? Because they aren't behind it.

"Edwards fools the southern voters, Hillary rakes in the communists...it's highly plausible."

I don't think Edwards is that stupid.

I hear she has trouble meeting a guy.

No, meeting one is easy. It's keeping one around that may be the problem...

The race is now in flux. Kerry is only the frontrunner because he's electable, now he's less electable.

Dems proved back in '98 that they'll stand behind a philanderer and rapist. This is what dems call "character". J-F'ing-K is an amateur compared to Clinton.

The real story is J-F'ing-K's whereabouts after his Vietnam stint--the anti-war activities, etc. We've only seen the tip of that iceberg in the past few weeks; I suspect something's going to come out that nails him as an American traitor along the lines of Benedict Arnold.

What happened to the Rush photo thread about being a troll thread #1?
#2 Gore could be the fountain of this treachery. There was the draft Gore movement that didn't get the media attention he felt it deserved. I don't recall any of the DNC hotshots coming to him and asking him to be the nominee, they treated him, the way he treated LIeberman.
Also Chris Lahane is a Gore operative.
p.s.
Gore and Dean much too alike for my comfort.

Edwards is no genius, but surely he's too smart to risk getting between Hitlery and the Presidency.
