Poll: Proposed FR Rule Change about breaking news
Posted on 02/12/2004 8:58:45 AM PST by 1stFreedom
My post on the Kerry story was pulled. Why? Because before the story actually broke, someone posted a thread that indicated Drudge had a breaking a world exclusive story. (We all love the early warnings about a breaking drudge story, even if the story turns out to be about nothing.)
On this post, there were tons of posts speculating the cause, etc. The last time I looked there were 500+ posts.
I posted the story after Drudge broke it, and immediately the responses were relevant and not speculative.
My question to you is, shouldn't the older post be frozen, especially since there were 500 odd posts which were not dealing with actual story? Or would you rather freeze and remove the new post with relevant information and posts?
I don't care about MY posts being bumped. I've posted breaking stories from Drudge, and I'd expect than once the story actually comes through, my "early warning" post should be locked.
An alternative suggestion is for the moderator to EDIT the original post warning of the breaking news and to insert the actual story into the original post.
What do you think? (DU members, no need to try and influence this poll! LOL)

Your argument makes sense
editing the original to contain the article, or put up a new thread.
But just so you know its just like that John Cougar songs says "I fight authority and a authority always wins"

The truth is that we don't need to be bothered with 200 posts about everone guessing what the news is gonna be. It's waste of bandwith and time. No offense, but a flashing light is not breaking news.

Precisely why I never post Breaking Wind stories about "Rush Limbaugh just said this" or "O'Reilly just said that."
Seems you always get 3~4 dozen people always rushing to post the same I-heard-it-first thread.
Don't matter to me whatsoever.
Let the Mods sort it out whatever way they want.
Just my 2¢

There are currently three threads about the Drudge story. Two with the same header.

You breaking news belongs to us.... That phrase should be "All Your Breaking News is Belong to us".

I don't think this requires a rules change. Just suggest it to the mods. Sounds like a good idea.

And now, it is Breaking News again? The plot thickens. (Developing...)

That phrase should be "All Your Breaking News is Belong to us". Actually, it should be "All your Breaking News are belong to us." But, we digress...

As you wish. Your post, and all those like it, have been restored. Regards.

That phrase should be "All Your Breaking News is Belong to us". I was just too quick and forgot. But wasn't it 'are' instead of 'is'...

Why have the quarterback call all the plays in the huddle? Heck, the tackles, guards, wide receivers, running backs and tight ends should provide their input, too.
On every play!

Neither post should be frozen or removed. But there should only be one thread in BREAKING NEWS. Mods choice should be to move yours or the other thread to breaking news. Its up to them.

The first post should be retitled with the breaking news as a live thread.

Certain vanities need to be in breaking news. That's why the posters put them there.
